This jacket is very well done for what it is- a functional around town rain jacket/insulation layer. In some of the reviews knocking the quality, I can't help but think the people writing them are shortsighted. Here's why: 1) Patagonia stands by there product really well. There customer service is second only to Zappos. They have a great return or exchange policy, even without receipt. Go ahead test it. They've repaired jackets for me for free that I rightfully should have paid to get repaired (fire, knives through sleeves, you know- not manufacturing defects). 2) Patagonia makes consistently high quality gear. I've been using it, in ocean spray (salt water destroys stuff pretty well), for 10 years as a professional. I own more Patagonia than any other brand for one reason- it works and it lasts. 3) The jacket is clearly not designed to be heavy duty on insulation, but the insulation is incredibly warm for it's weight. In other words, it's not cheap and thin. It's expensive and thin. And if you ever want to packed this jacket to take it somewhere (which is why I am buying it), taking up less space in the suitcase without losing warmth is a pretty big advantage. That's why outdoor folks love hi-loft down. To sum up: great jacket for it's design. The outer shell is a fully waterproof fabric, rather than a fabric treated with water repellant (like the Venn). The insulation is a more highly breathable than synthetic (that means wind will get through it alone, but not with the outer shell on), creating a highly versatile jacket to cover a very wide range of conditions, especially if you're willing to pack a sweater. My only critique- I'd prefer a less obvious Patagonia logo on the outer shell (like the one on the Venn)- so I'll get a stitch cutter and take that off.

The bottom slider won't bring the stop together about half of the time. It is very difficult to use and completely unacceptable on a an expensive jacket. Otherwise, it is very warm and windproof. It is also lightweight, compared to other jackets I have had that are this warm. The XXL runs long compared to others.

I bought this coat for my boyfriend for Christmas. He just got a new job and needed a coat that was warm enough to commute in but still professional looking. He's 6'5" with an athletic build and this fit him perfectly in a size large. It's hard to find coats that are long enough in the body and in the arms without being too baggy in the body and the fit was perfect. However, he said that his arms were freezing in 35 degree weather so we had to return it. I'm disappointed that a coat this expensive isn't warm and the price tag is definitely for the name and style, not warmth.

This coat rocks, ordered the Maramot Uptown and the North Face Venesborg. Keep this one sent the rest back. This coat is very nice good length and the medium is great for me 5'11" 170 lb. The only complaint is the sleeves on the shell when you have it all together seem kind of tight. The liner is awesome and I can't stop wearing it. The outer shell material is very nice. I plan on where this for business. I can use just the shell and where a suite jacket under it.

Overall, this is a great coat. It looks great over a suit or jeans and really versatile. My only complaints are the zipper is sometimes a bit tricky to "connect" and the liner could be a bit higher quality (finished cuffs, slightly more down, drawstring waist, etc...). Otherwise, the jacket looks and wears great.

This is a well made product. Unfotunately it is simply not warm enough. Below 30 degrees I felt the chill even with a heavy sweater. The down lining should have been heavier. Too bad because it is so comfortable.
