After nearly 2 years, my Timberland Pro Men's 52562 Endurance 6" PR Work Boots were wearing through the soles and ready for replacement. Though I was generally quite happy with the Pro Endurance boots, they weigh a ton; I was hoping I could find something similar performance in something with a bit less weight. Also, the Endurance boot is not waterproof, and is not promoted as waterproof, but I have to say - it leaks fast even in shallow puddles. So, waterproofing seemed it would be a nice bonus with the Timberland PRO Helix 6" Waterproof Safety Toe boots (model 85594), though not essential for my needs. After nearly a month of wear, the Helix boots seem to fit well (they felt good right out of the box). They have reasonable arch support and plenty of room in the toe for my wide feet. But, the Helix seems to put some pressure on my Achilles tendon, creating a bit of pain by day's end, something I never noticed with the 52562 Pro Endurance. Also, the Helix lacks the rubber toe bumper that protected the leather toe from abrasion in coarse limestone. After less than a week, the Helix boots were pretty scarred up from climbing berms of loose limestone boulders - but these are work boots and don't need to stay beautiful, too. Next time, I may go back to the Timberland Pro Endurance. I alternate the Helix with another new pair of boots. On days with lighter duty, I wear Timberland 15130 Chocorua Trail with Gore-Tex - Membrane. While both pairs of new boots feel good while on my feet, after taking the Chocoruas off, my worn out metatarsals hurt more than after spending the day in either the Endurance or the Helix boots. The Chocorua cost a less than either pair of Timberland Pros, but you also get less boot.

Brands I'd also recommend: I really miss my Dunham hiking boots, discontinued after New Balance bought Dunham

It took about a week, but I got these broken in. My only complaint during that time was the end of the composite toe kept hitting the top of my toes. This has gone away as the leather has become more pliable. My feet definitely don't feel fatigued after standing, climbing ladders, and walking across campus all day.

These Pro Helix Timberlands are as comfortable as my NB MT841's (sneakers) and clean up with a warm damp rag. The insert has a decent arch, which helps with the comfort, in my opinion. The Pro Helix initially appears less rugged in appearance, but is wearing in gradually. They appear a bit narrow, but they don't feel like that. They have good grip and just enough heal for ladder duty, etc. They do not breathe as well as some of the other Timberlands I bought. I would recommend these boots. I've been using Zappos for 6 years now, faithfully, because of their consistent commitment to customer service. Every order (8 pairs of work boots) has been shipped expeditiously, and all three of my returns/swaps were simply effortless.

Brands I'd also recommend: I stick with Timberlands- consistant sizing.
