I have always wanted a light, waterproof jacket for the summer, but the quality names (Marmot being high on that list) were a little too expensive to justify. I got a gift card from work and figured I'd bite the bullet on the rest, but Zappos had the exact jacket I've coveted on sale! Short version of the rest of the story is that it's exactly what I expected. The second day after I received it, the weather took a typical Fall turn. In fact, I found myself in a situation where it was raining pretty hard and I needed to walk to a restaurant for lunch. My pants got wet, but my upper body was completely dry. I also tend to overheat pretty easily, so I didn't want a typical rain coat; I needed something that breathed. I could tell in this one trek that I'd never have a heat problem in this jacket. With the hood up and the cuffs tight, I could barely tell it was on, aside from the fact that I wasn't getting wet. My only issue is that one of the velcro tabs on the front flap was only partially sewn, but I should be able to stitch that myself without compromising the integrity of the jacket. All told, I can see why these are at the retail price. It's a technical garment that does exactly what it advertises. Getting it shipped to me for almost half that price was an unavoidable deal. On top of that, I had a question about how to use my gift card, so I tried the Zappos online chat option. I got top-tier service (as usual) and more. In summary, if you're researching lightweight, waterproof jackets suitable for warmer, inclement weather, the Marmot Precip will show up in most lists of top options. Having worn it for nearly a month in a number of different weather conditions, I'd put it at the top of my list.

It's comfortable. It's light. It will protect you from the wind or a 20 min. of a light rain. After that the water will be sipping through the material. Stay away if you're looking for a good protection from the elements.

First time buyer of a breathable rain coat. Got so tired of getting soaked wearing a stupid windbreaker. Took it for a test drive (walk) thru a pretty good rain in about 60 degree weather w/ no wind and sure enough it kept me dry and not sweaty, even when wearing it inside a store. A cool feature is when you shake it out lightly it becomes almost completely dry! But my jeans got wet so I'm going to buy the matching pants. My only complaint is the hood tie system. I went to an outdoor and looked at all of them and literally all of them stink. The pull ties are all hard to find and/or have tensioners that are also hard to find or hard to operate. This jacket has both problems, but it's par for the course for these kinds of jackets. Maybe some company will become intelligent and get ahead of their competitors and come up w/ something that is more user friendly. So 4 stars because of the pull tie weakness.

I saw my mother with a similar jacket for use in light (not too cold) weather. This serves perfectly to keep me dry and looking good. Not much else to say about a simple product.

Marmot Precip - I bought this jacket to replace a 5 year old Marmot Precip which is getting pretty grubby. The light weight and packability is a big plus for me, as I've found that I usually spend more time with it in my pack than wearing it. The new jacket seems to be made a little nicer than the old. I hope it serves me as well.

The jacket is very durable; I used it when I did some light skiing this past winter. The pockets are easily accessible while wearing and the string adjustments are comfortable. After taking a few spills I was really only wet around my neck area where the jacket is opened up. For the price, it is hard to beat for a good general outdoor outer shell.

Very light, not sure how it handles the rain yet. There is no lining, so it tends to stick to your skin. Overall good value, though.

Exactly what I was looking for. Living in the port of Valdez, AK I needed something comfortable, lightweight yet warm, and very waterproof for the summers here. This fits the bill! Also can easily fit on layers underneath for the colder days. I was worried about not getting the tall size (I'm 6'3, 165) but the regular medium fits me absolutely perfectly. Love it so much I may buy another.

I bought this jacket for my husband for Christmas. He wore it to run errands in and it kept him dry. It's lightweight, easy to wear a pullover underneath in cooler weather and will be easy to stuff in a backpack for biking or travel. Fits true to size.

I bought this jacket as a gift for my husband to replace his old one that he burned a hole in while burning brush. I also have one. We both love this coat and have taken it on many trips, including to Europe. It is soft, supple and easy to pack. It is great for layering. If it wasn't a terrific jacket, I would not be purchasing another!

Great windbreaker/rain jacket. High quality and good fit. I am 6'-0" tall and weigh 185lbs, I ordered the large and it was a bit too big so I returned it and ordered a medium which fits right. Nice features like the underarm zippered vents and the velcro flaps over the zippers on the front and pockets. I'm sure that I wear this jacket a lot when hiking etc.

Great lightweight rain jacket for the cost. Do not expect it to perform as well as Gore-Tex; it is not Gore-Tex nor does it claim to be. It is also approximately 1/5 the cost of an equivalent Gore-Tex shell. It is not intended to provide insulated warmth; it is only a rain shell. It compresses into its own pocket for clever storage. It feels best when you have a layer on between you and the jacket; if not it can feel a little clammy. It does not breathe as well as Gore-Tex but again, it is not claiming to be Gore-Tex. The fold-away hood storage is a bit clumsy and the hood eventually unravels from its storage unless you roll it tight and snug. I use this jacket when it rains during my 35-minute bike commute in Seattle. At one month old it is still completely waterproof and I hope it stays that way. If you are exercising while wearing you will likely sweat inside the coat as it has limited breathe-ability. It appears as though it will last at least a few years through regular use and for the cost it is a fair deal.

Nice jacket. Bought it for my son. Good for rain but no insulation at all so he needs to wear a fleece under it for most days.

I've worn this jacket in a variety of wet places, from Seattle to Helsinki to Taiwan during typhoon season. It seals up easily and keeps me comfortably dry. The various adjustments (sleeve size, hood tightness, etc.) are all easily accessible and it's straightforward to adjust the jacket to fit me perfectly. In general I am completely satisfied with this jacket. There are a few nitpicks, though. The lack of interior pockets is kind of a bummer during really heavy rain. The Velcro on the center zipper sometimes makes it a little awkward to unzip the jacket quickly. After a while you get used to holding the zipper with a finger underneath to peel the Velcro ahead of the zipper. And the technique for rolling up and stowing the hood is a little awkward and, unless it's done carefully, will result in bits of hood poking out from the collar area, no big deal comfort wise but not very good-looking. However, those are really nitpicks; this jacket goes with me nearly everywhere I travel.

You've watched the YouTube reviews, you've researched jackets, and you've placed your order. For me, I was excited to get this jacket. It's not a $500 jacket, and it's not a $1 thrift store jacket...but upon arrival, I feel this jacket should be more in the $29.99 range. I am sensitive to odors, so the mild odor does bother me. Love the fit of the hood, but when I zip up the jacket all the way and go to Velcro the top piece, I really have to force the material so the Velcro actually, well, Velcros. The outer pockets are netting when you reach your hands inside. No interior pockets. In my opinion, Marmot needs to make some upgrades to make it worth the money. Bottom line: If your main concern is buying a jacket that can be folded up and put into your backpack, get this jacket. If you want something warm, with bells and whistles that has a perfect fit, pass this jacket by.
