I recently purchased this tea kettle because the lever to open the spout on my Revere 3 1/2 qt. broke. I had the Revere for over 30 years, so I couldn't complain. Since I now have a new kitchen, I decided on the Oxo, based on quality and design. While the kettle holds less then my Revere, it looks great on my black, smooth-top cook top. It is heavy for its size, but I think the quality makes it that way. I don't know if it will last 30 years, but then, I don't think I will either (I'm 76). I do baby it though. After it cooks off, I wipe out the inside, so no mineral deposits will form (couldn't do that on the Revere). All in all, so far I'm very happy with it. I also think it would look great on a hot pad to serve tea at the table, without keeping it on the stove.

Brands I'd also recommend: Oxo kitchen scale, 11 lbs. capacity

This is the best tea kettle I've purchased in recent memory. The handle remains cool throughout the boiling process, its capacity is large enough to fill 2 thermos jars and 2 mugs, and the design is modern and elegant. In addition, the opening and closing mechanism makes this kettle easy to use. I've had it a few weeks and it has simplified my morning routine. I have recently purchased several other OXO products, as well. They appear to combine attractive design along with easy to use functionality. Excellent product.

OK tea kettle. Not quite as nice as I expected. The whistle is a sputtering sound, the knob on lid came off and the screw holding it fell off into the kettle (may be good to tighten it before using). Handle works well.

Pretty color, but pretty heavy for a tea kettle. I didn't really like the open/close button, or the small access to get the lid off. Still looking for the perfect tea kettle.

A great teapot. Nice, positive click when spout is opened or closed. Looks good in an open, modern kitchen. Good quality feel.

This kettle is fine, but not great. The handle gets extremely hot. More often than hearing a whistle when water is boiling, I hear the spatter of water spewing out and around the stove. I'm not overfilling, so I don't know why this happens, but I rarely leave the room when boiling water, so it hasn't been a safety issue for me... certainly could be for some people. I bought this because my kettle of 10 years was covered in soot after a camping trip. After a few weeks with this, I finally scrubbed the soot off my old kettle to use in the kitchen again. This new one will be for camping from now on--assuming it's up to the job!

I love my new tea pot. Does not leak when you pour and I like the easy squeeze handle to open and button to close. I found the whistle to be plenty loud enough. Handle gets warm but never hot. I like that the lid comes off for easy cleaning and the spout stays open until I click the button to close.

I've never been a fan of tea kettle whistles - but, since my last kettle was totaled after I forgot it on, thought I'd better get one! What I like is the ability to keep it flipped up if I need to be quiet for any reason. As it's heating up, this kettle seems much louder than my old one - I'm guessing it's a little lighter weight. Overall, I'm happy with it.

This is a great kettle. The whistle is loud enough and it looks great. The handle on the lid did fall off, but that is easily fixable with a screwdriver. The construction feels solid like it will last a long time, as with all OXO products. The brushed metal looks great and won't tarnish over time. The mechanism to open and close the spout is intuitive and doesn't require a lot of effort.
