I bought these boots for walking my dog in the snow in NE Ohio. I walk about 3 miles each day on unplowed paths and these are great boots! They keep your feet warm with just smart wool hiking socks. Just like my other Merrell's I bought a 1/2 size larger so 9.5 and they were perfect!

Not much padding and too light weight for any real hiking. Probably okay for going on a 1 mile walk in your neighborhood, but not much more.

I would give these 6 stars! They are warm and comfortable. There is no need to break them in at all. I wear 7.5 to 8, and the 8 was perfect with a normal crew sock. It would be too tight if I was to wear a big sock. Order 1/2 size bigger if you plan on wearing big socks with them. I am so pleased with this winter boot.

My foot is a narrow width and these are medium so there is plenty of room around the ball of my foot. The heel does not slide at all. Very comfortable. Tested in the snow and my feet were warm and dry when I went back inside.

I bought the Merrell boots for my wife on line from Zappos because you can no longer find 5 1/2s in a store in this state. They are a great boot for the cold of North Dakota (-28 air temp 1/11/11 No wind chill). She walks a lot and the boot fits great. She says it keeps her feet warm outside and not too hot to walk in the mall for a couple of hours.

I am giving these boots five stars even though I ultimately returned them in favor of the more rugged Merrell Whiteouts. It was a tough choice mainly because these were indeed warm, had great traction, and were also very cute! Ultimately, I went for the waterproof aspect and overall ruggedness of the Whiteouts, and I made the right decision as I was trolling around very rugged cold wet conditions at 9,000 feet. I would have chosen these if my conditions were going to be a bit more civilized! They are definitely lighter than the Whiteouts and that would have been a nice plus. Great Merrell comfort and stupendous Zappos service as ever!

You will need to buy 1/2 size larger in this shoe. Otherwise, great boot.

After searching for warmth and comfort, this boot does what it's supposed to do: feels like it's gently hugging my feet (!) and keeping them toasty! I've had positive experiences with Merrell before, and was relieved to finally find this boot, at a reasonable price. I'm even wearing them now, perfect with midweight hiking socks! If I could afford it, I'd buy two!

These are well-built, comfortable boots that can be worn all day. The low height means my ankle can flex easily and doesn't feel like a traditional boot. They have kept my feet toasty warm so far in single digit temperatures. I've already recommended them to friends. I did need to order the 1/2 size up, though--they run a little short.

This is quite the boot. It is warm, lightweight, and hugs your feet. Same size as the Merrell Hiking boots. Love These boots. I wear them for just about anything outside in Cold, snowy Minnesnowta.

Brands I'd also recommend: Merrell or Columbia

I bought a pair of The North Face Syncline GTX and I gave them away once I bought these. They keep my feet very warm and have superb grip for the snowy and wet streets of NYC.

Love theses boots! I wear an 11 and the 11 fits great! They are great for the 2 to 3 mile walks I take around the neighborhood and great for running errands on cold winter days! I teach PE and have even worn these in the gym on cold mornings.

I loved these boots the minute I tried them on. They are cozy, warm, and sturdy for walking on snow and ice. I like the fleecy collar around the ankle. They are standing the test during the cold snowy winter we're having in Minnesota. I normally wear a 7 or 7 1/2. I got a 7 1/2 in these to make sure I'd have room for thicker socks and I'm glad I did. They fit perfectly.

Comfy, warm and toasty from the start! No problems at all with fit or comfort. The fleece is nice and I can wear these with wool socks and my feet do not get cold. Excellent tread in the snow and ice. Really like the boots!

I bought these boots after returning a pair to a retail store that did not fit at all. When I received the Merrells, I knew that they were going to be just fine. They were comfortable right out of the box. Although we have not had any ice or snow yet, I think the soles on these boots will perform well....they are like a trailer truck tread!!! I also have problems with fit, as I wear a size 11, and am recovering from a back and ankle injury. Today I wore them for the first time and I think they are very comfy; well padded in the shin area, ample toe box, and they feel like I'm walking on air. My guess is that they will do the job superbly in inclement weather. Thank you for introducing these to me.

I needed a rugged boot that was essentially a winterized hiking boot. These boots are comfortable and unbelievably warm. Order 1 size up for maximum comfort and also keeping in mind you will be wearing heavy winter socks. I know I'll get a lot of use out of them!

I wrote recently that I thought a size 10 would work better for me, but I've since tried that, and it's still too short. I guess size 11, it is then! These are nice boots, but you really need to order several sizes larger than your normal shoe size.

I agree with other reviewers that you need to size up in this boot. I wear a 9 shoe and ordered a 9 1/2 boot. It is slightly too small, and I think a 10 would have worked better. I like the boot, though, and wish it would have worked.

Really like this boot. Runs a half size too small, but the fit is very comfortable. Feels like you have a shoe on, but the boot part keeps your feet really warm! Wore them today, when I was snow blowing - fingers were cold, but my toes were toasty.

Very warm and comfortable for walking the dog in the winter. I have also worn these to some extremely cold football games, and with the addition of wool socks, my toes have stayed toasty. Definitely glad I purchased these!

I bought these boots as a gift for a friend of mine who has relatively the same foot size as I have. I tried them on before sending them to her to make sure they would fit. The shoes feel great in terms of comfort and warmth - although I didn't try them outside. With a very thin sock, my toes were almost at the end, but this heel was too loose (this is a common problem for me with shoes b/c I have a very small heel). Normally, I am almost always exactly a size 8 in shoes, and lean towards the smaller end of the 8 (I have 2 shoes that are 7.5). These shoes fit well and comfy at first try, but I wonder if I were to have tried them on with thick socks if that would be a problem. These shoes seem to be so warm; however, you wouldn't need thick socks. Maybe that's the idea. They also seemed to fit the width just perfectly - no wiggle room (I guess if you want a hiking boot, you need it to fit well). My overall critique is, these shoes seem to be very well-built, and they are "true-to-size" with no leeway (aka - if you are going to wear thick socks, I would go a half size up).

Brands I'd also recommend: Other Merrell boots

Love these. so comfortable and not too heavy like some winter wear. I wore them all around Park City in the snow and was never cold. I had to order a 1/2 size up, though. I think they run small.

My first time buying hiking boots - I hit the jackpot. These are so comfortable, warm, and have great traction. I was worried about the width, as I have wide feet with bunions, but they were great. I'm going to buy a second pair.
