These boots are amazing. I've owned a pair of Frye Harness boots for about 2 years now and I have to say I already prefer the Engineer. First of all, let me say I'm a size 8.5 (narrow feet, small calves), I ordered a size 8 and I still have room to wear thick socks in the winter. The rounded toe box is much more comfortable for people with longer (ie monkey) toes such as myself. The color (sand) pretty much goes with everything, and the arch support is totally there. Right out of the box they were comfortable and easy to slip on. So I would say order a half size down if you have narrower feet, and an average ankle/calf (the adjustable strap at the opening is so clutch). Buy quality, you won't regret it.

I am disappointed. I love the look, love the brand, love the materials. But it still looked like I was wearing my husband's boots, or a little boy is wearing his daddy's grown-up boots. They did not look right with regular jeans, or skinny jeans, or a dress. And I usually like the rugged tough look; I am not a girly-girl. Also, the feet move a lot when walking; I could only imagine the blisters to come if I kept them. Unless you have very wide feet, then these may be just what you are looking for. Oh, I really wanted them to work for me.

Burnt red distressed leather, comfortable and made in the U.S.A. These are the perfect boots. At first, I thought the price was rather high, but once I saw the quality and put them on my feet it was obvious these boots will last a very long time. Quality costs, and I'm OK with that.

This is my 3rd style of Fryes I have ordered in a few short months. They are fabulous! I ordered the plum brush off and they go well with black or brown. They are true to size and comfortable to wear all day even when you spend most of the day on your feet. I can't say enough how much I love Fryes and love Zappos. The customer service is outstanding and next day shipping how can you beat that!

These are great! The color is a lovely deep wine color on the highlights, with a rich warm black everywhere else. I might also call it "oxblood". They match blacks beautifully, but the warm reddish tones matches well with browns, too. They initially seemed stiff, but were easy to slip on - so comfy, in fact, I wore them immediately for 4 hours walking around with no problems! They have more arch support and are easier to slip off than my Frye Harness 12Rs. I stand all day on concrete floors and after three days, I've already noticed that the heels on these (which are lower and softer than my Harness 12Rs) are easier on my bad knees and ankles. I got my normal size, 7.5, which fit perfectly with a gel cushion insert and socks. 5 stars for Zappos, too: Even though I just got regular ol' free shipping, the boots were waiting outside my door the next day after I placed my order. 1 day!

Frye are great boots. They are well made and stylish. I would order a 1/2 size up for wide feet, narrower feet should order their true size or 1/2 size smaller. I have this color Sand, and I've been strategically waiting to rock these puppies for the summer. It's an unexpected color to give you that firm statement of understated style & moxie. Look out.

I love the color, but ordered a half size larger than normal. I think they are supposed to slip a wee bit in the heel, but not this much! Will return and try another size at some point.

Love them. I've bought 2 pairs of Frye boots within 7 days. My first pair (12R/Black) I purchased at a retail store to get sizing right. Glad I did, to avoid sizing issues for my second pair (8R/Sand). I think I prefer the 12R than 8R. Salivating for for my 3rd pair in the color Gaucho. Quality & craftsmanship is excellent!

My Frye Engineers are so ugly...they're cute. I love them. I am very petite, so they look rough and rugged on me and are the perfect antidote to tiny and sweet. I am normally a 7 in shoes but find these fit me best in a 7.5. I slip them on with my skinny jeans and am ready to take on the world.

I love these boots! They are very well made. The leather is substantial yet supple. They took no time at all to break in. I love the style, and prefer the 8" height of these boots to the similar 12" style. This particular style and color combination was hard to find in bricks-and-mortar stores near me, so I ordered online and have been completely happy with them.

I absolutely love this boot! I was looking for a casual boot but also one that wouldn't make my feet sore. I'm on my feet a lot for work and I'm used to wearing supportive and comfortable shoes. These are so comfortable, when I get home I don't change into athletic shoes to walk to dog, these are that supportive & comfortable that I wear them to walk to the dog 1-2 miles. My left foot is a bit wider and I wore these about 4-6 hours to break them in (got a tiny blister) but it was worth it because they fit perfectly now! They are also very stylish, I get lots of compliments and they are constructed very well. I have no doubt I will have these for 10+yrs. Hard to find a good leather boot that isn't lined and this was very much worth the price!

Very cute and well made. As a mostly 9.5-10 I tried sizing up based on reviews but found the 10 a little to sloppy, especially in the right foot. Will try again down half a size.

I have had my pair of Gaucho 8R Frye's for about six years now and they are my absolute favorite and preferred footwear. I love the style and attitude these boots give me. I feel tough in these boots. When I first got them the area under the strap felt too tight but loosened after the leather stretched a bit. I had them reheeled once and was pained to be without them while they were in the shop. I preferred to have a bit more arch support than they had and put 3/4 insoles in them. Recently the lower buckle snapped in half and the stitching on the sole was becoming exposed so I knew their time was limited. They also got so beat up because they got so much wear due to my preference to wear them over all my other shoes. Today I got a pair of Smoke 12R and am hoping they do as well as the Gaucho 8R did for me all these years. I love these boots!

I know this might sound silly, but I just don't know how I've lived for so long without these boots. My sister has had hers for 3+ years and the only thing she's had to do is replace the heels. I tend to be a shoe destroyer and these boots are standing up to my abuse admirably. They are very comfortable, great for biking in, and though they may be a bit heavy for some wearers I don't mind the weight at all. My only complaint is that they don't make a 10 , which is often my size. I'm a 10 in comfort shoes like Born or Clarks, so I tried a 10 in these, but it was just too small. I had to size up to the 11. Which is fine, because they'll fit sheepskin inserts for the winter. Overall, love love love these boots.

I have several Frye boots, but these are the most comfortable I have ever owned! There is cushioning in the forefoot, and the heel is just right. The distressed leather not only looks great, but it is soft and comfortable. I can wear these all day!

Firstly, I'd like to say if everything was run by Zappos it would be a perfect world. Secondly, these are the coolest boots I've ever owned! (And I've owned a lot of boots!) I got a half size smaller than usual and they didn't work with socks, but I really don't like to wear socks so they are just perfect without them. I love you Zappos!

I had to return these, ultimately too small. They were too tight and rubbed on the tops of my feet. Perhaps I could have tried a 1/2 size larger.

I didn't like these boots at first glance because the black bottoms seemed like too big of a contrast with the light brown leather. I also found them very hard to get on my feet (and my feet are sort of narrow). I put them in the box and decided to try again the next day. When I tried them on again, a friend stopped by and suggested I give them another chance. Turns out, I actually could get them on; and, they also happened to match perfectly with the black and tan outfit I was wearing at the time. So, I kept them on that day and I've been wearing them ever since. I like how the buckle at the top side is adjustable so I can make them less baggy around the ankles. I am a huge cowboy boot fan and I am enjoying this new style for me this fall.

Brands I'd also recommend: Lucchese is still my handsdown favorite

Thanks, Zappos for the super fast delivery! I'm afraid I must return the Frye Engineer 8R boot. The inside of the boot is not lined with leather and the toe box is tight (the heel fits right). Also, I found another Frye boot with a much better traction sole than this one (for less money on another website). I will continue to shop Zappos but must return this boot.

My Frye Engineer 8Rs are my second pair of Frye boots and on day 3 of wearing them I love them just as much as the first. These ankle boots look great -- edgy and sexy with leggings or tights and with jeans. The bi-color leather makes them super versatile. They are comfortable from the get-go, and become even comfier as they stretch and mold to your feet. And I expect they will last forever, like my 5-year-old Fryes which are as good as new. I do find that I wear a half-size smaller in Fryes because I tend to wear thin socks -- tried both my true size 8 and a 7.5 and went with the 7.5. If you wear thick socks true size might work; it's worth it to try both.

Frye is the best! I own 5 pairs. This is the recent addition. I got it in the sand color and it is awesome. I get true to size and if I need to I wear a thicker sock. It you don't own a pair a Frye boots get one...you will be hooked for life!
