I love these shoes. These are my first trail runners, and they're everything I hoped they would be. I am a tall (6'1"), light (155 lbs.), neutral-gait runner with fairly high arches. I run in the Mizuno Wave Rider (a light neutral-cushioned shoe) on roads and easy trails, and I wanted something else that could handle everything from muddy single-track to rooty, rocky northern New England mountain trails. The Roclite 295 is typical of what I've read and heard about the Inov-8 brand in general: fairly minimal support, super-light, and a nice grippy outsole. If you're looking for a shoe with pronation control or a ton of support, the Roclite 295 is probably not the shoe for you. But if you're looking for a minimal, light, super-flexible, grippy trail runner, the 295 is great. A couple of additional notes: (1) the upper does a great job of holding the foot in place on rough trails; and (2) the shoe dumps water like crazy. It's not a waterproof shoe, but it doesn't soak up water the way most running shoes do.

Inov-8 is my new best shoe friend. I have worn Salomons for years, but the Inov-8s allow more freedom of movement for my feet. I have been wearing this brand for three months, and my arches are already stronger. I also wear the Inov-8 268 and the 318 gore tex models. For me, they provide a good transition from heavily cushioned and supportive trail shoes to a more natural way of moving.

With several trail runs in the books I can say that I have been very happy with the Roclite 295s. These are really my first trail running shoes so I don't have a lot to compare with, but they are quite light with excellent grip and traction (as advertised). They do seem to drain and dry quickly when they get wet. I'm used to more cushioning in my road running shoes, but I've had no issues with the minimal cushioning in these. Overall I have found them excellent. Also, Zappos has delivered my orders w/i 48 hours both times.

A great all around athletic shoe! I like to bike and hike and it works well for both. I love the way it breathes and the room for my toes.

These shoes are great. I use them for running short distances (5K races) and CrossFit. They are very comfortable, more comfortable than my Ascis 'running' sneakers. I would prefer another color besides black (they only came in one color).

You can't beat Zappos service! Ordered yesterday at 11am, delivered at 3pm today! These were right on, right out of the box. They fit like a glove! I wear a womens 11 wide so I ordered a UK 9. Plenty of room in the toe box, nice arch support, more dressy than a standard runner and cute for a trail runner! The lacing system made the width adjustable for thicker hiking socks and my tall arch. All I can say is I can't wait to hit the trail! Perfect!

This is my 4th pair of Roclite 295, and I feel they may be the best all-round trail runner made. I run up to 40 mile weeks and 50k max distance. I have never felt the need to get them off my feet. Good shoes.

I have run in Asics for several years, but since purchasing the Roclite 295's I have switched to these almost exclusively as my road running shoe of choice. There is considerably less cushioning in the shoe, which takes some getting used to, but I have found that my stride is much more natural in these and my legs/knees hurt much less. Also, these make a great walking around town and hiking shoe. They are very comfortable and have a cool look to them as well. Those new to Inov-8's should be warned they run a little small and are narrow, but overall they are by far the most comfortable shoes I've owned. If you are looking to run trails, these don't have much ankle support - look to the Roclite 400's or some Salomon's if that is what you need - but for light trail running these are awesome.

Brands I'd also recommend: Salomon

These are a great all-around shoe. I own 5 different pair of Inov-8's and these are by far the most durable. I had to get a half size smaller in this shoe compared to my other 8's.

I love my other pair of Inov-8s and couldn't wait to get these. Despite the unisex sizing, they fit great, hugging your foot and offering excellent support. The shoes don't have great cushion, generally speaking, but the solid tread makes up or it. The newer styles seem a little too light and lean. These are very little but have more substance. Very hard to find. Thanks Zappos for carrying them.

Brands I'd also recommend: icebug, merrell

These shoes are hard to find; so glad they had them! Unbelievable costumer service. Had to return the first pair because they were too big, got the second pair before I even got the first pair returned. No hassles, just great service. Wish I could buy everything on Zappos! Groceries, car...

These are great running shoes; they are light, have great traction and shock absorption. They are especially great for running on uneven terrain because of their traction, lightness and slightly upturned toe.

These shoes rock! I run trails in So. Utah, a combination of sand, rock, ups, downs and recently, a lot of mud. They performed perfectly in every condition. Right out of the box the comfort and features one would dream of in an ideal trail running shoe. Immediate comfort with essentially no break in period.

I bought these for running agility with my dog. They are great. Very light weight, very comfortable, excellent grip in wet conditions. They do not have a ton of arch or foot support, but they aren't designed to. I really like them and will buy Inov-8's again.

These are my first pair of Inov-8's and wore them for the first time this past weekend on a training 16 Mile trail run at Torreya State Park, FL. It was raining and in the low 50's - the whole 2:17:?? of the run - and the shoes performed outstandingly. The knobby, climbing rubber outsole gripped the wet, muddy, sandy, leafy hilly trails without flinching. The shoes breathe and drain very well, which is good for the rainy, hot, sweaty Florida climate. The outsoles protected the bottoms of my feet against the exposed (and not-so-exposed) roots. I plan on wearing these at the Mountain Mist 50K in a few weeks, and hope to provide and update on how they handle the rocks up there. They are relatively lightweight for trail shoes; the number associated with the model name is the weight in grams (i.e., 295 grams equals approximately 10.41 ounces). The toebox is comfortably snug, which helps prevent your foot from sliding around in the shoe when wet, and making sharp turns on trails. The back of the shoes fit low on your heels, which helps prevent blisters and Achilles issues. The shoes feel true to size. I am 5'8", 150 lbs and wear a size 10 US (9 UK). Inov-8 is a British company, so you have to deal with their sizing system. Caution - since the knobby outsoles don't allow for much traction, the shoes are very slippery on wet, wood-planked bridges. The shoes may not be the best choice for multi-day backpacking/hiking trips with loads over 35 lbs, due to the speedy, lightweight nature of the shoes. Overall, these shoes are awesome and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a lightweight trail shoe with adequate bottom-of-foot protection. Note: These are trail shoes - if you wear them on pavement, the soles will wear out quickly. This is not a manufacturer's defect or a mark of poor quality (as I have read people complain about before in other reviews).

These shoe are great. Very light and they dry out quickly when you get them wet. The sizing seemed about right. The sticky soles are very reassuring on the trail. I highly recommend.

These shoes are great for what I bought them for: running on trails in the San Gabriel Mountains. The sole has heavy lugs that grip sandy trails as well as many day hiking boots. The shoe fits quite snugly around the forefoot but has a roomy toe box. This is great, as I have "Morton's Toe" (second toe longer than the big toe). I wish more shoe makers did this.

I bought these for doing agility training with my dog. I am really pleased. Great traction, very comfortable, light weight. I may end up putting my orthotics in for over pronation but I have to do that in all my running shoes.
