I have had this pair of shoes for about a month now, and I do not even wear them everyday, but the mid-sole of my left shoe is already separated from the main part of the shoe. Also the parts of the insoles near the toes are very uncomfortable; they hurt my toes every time I walk. I thought the pain would go away when the shoes are finally broken in, but it's been a while, and nothing changes. These shoes look nice, but that can't compensate for the bad quality and discomfort going along with them. Please think twice before you spend so much on these.

Cute for running errands with kids. But, not comfy after being spoiled by the super cushi-ness of running shoes. No regret though as I'm over ballet flats not being warm enough between seasons

I was holding off replacing my 7 year old Jack Purcell's for as long as I could, due to all of the reviewer's description of Converse's changes to the shoe. I finally purchased a new pair, hoping for the best, and when I received them I was disappointed beyond my expectations. The shoes look even worse than shown! The toe appears elongated, and the cap near the laces is rounded, not flat. The interior logo does not say Jack Purcell, only Converse. The back logo has been changed, and instead of the iconic Jack Purcell logo there is a stamp, already half rubbed off, that says Converse Jack Purcell (no graphic). I loved my old shoes and it is such a shame to see the shoe cheapened to such a shocking degree. Do not buy, you will regret it!

I know there are many negative reviews of these updated Jack Purcell's, but I have to add that these shoes have been ruined in the current design. I honestly knew ahead of time that the trademarks are gone (metal tipped laces, suede interior lining and foot bed, air holes that actually keep the shoe cool vs being completely blocked by the insole) and I actually like the less bulbous toecap on the current model, but these shoes really have been ruined to the point where I (and many others) will never buy them again! My main problem with the current model is the actual 'fit' of the shoe. I lined up the current model with my last remaining pair of originals (that are so worn out that I will sadly have to throw them away) and the new model is a good half inch or more longer. I also compared the insole on each and it is the exact same problem. Speaking of the new insole, Converse really has no class! The new insole appears to be made of the same material as fast food packaging and offers zero support, even when standing in the shoe! I even tried a size down, but the fit was still off...but I have noticed that lately with all Converse.

Jack Purcells have a great classic look to them that go with everything, and this is my fifth pair. Unfortunately, Converse recently decreased the quality of the shoes by skimping on some of the subtle characteristics that made JPs so nice. The tongue no longer has the logo, the suede that was featured on the inside of the shoe (both heelback and sole) has been removed, the laces don't have the metal tips on the ends, and the glue holding the rubber to the sides seems to give a lot sooner than previous versions. To the casual observer, the changes aren't drastic - but I am sorely disappointed the Converse took the cheaper route on such a classic.

I just have to echo the other reviews that have mentioned the unfortunate changes. These used to be the most comfortable shoes, but no longer. As others have said, they feel cheaper and considerably less comfortable. I have been so disappointed in the new ones that I gave up on them (after almost a decade of consecutive purchases) until I found a five-year old pair in my closet. I put those on and was amazed at how much more comfortable than the new version. This isn't just a fear a of change, it is a totally inferior product. What a bummer, converse really ruined my favorite shoes.

I ordered these to replace an old pair of black Jack Purcells that I loved. There are a few small details in this new pair that was missing from my old pair that I found disappointing. These shoes do not have the metal tipped shoe laces and the tongue does not have the Jack Purcell stitching at the top. Again, small details but ones that I miss.

You never buy a pair of Converse for comfort - it is all about looks and attitude. These do not disappoint on either - they are flat as a pancake so your feet get tired if you are planning to walk great distances but the payoff for looking great outweighs my pain. It is better to look good than feel good.

I've bought and worn Jack Purcells, Converse has made the product less durable, the canvas isn't as heavy duty. In this case less isn't more, I washed the shoes after wearing them for a while. I like my tennis shoes very clean and after one washing they had a small tear in the shoe. I also wish Converse hadn't tried to do a subtle redesign. I'm referring to the change in the famous smile on the toe of the shoe that was always imbedded in the rubber not on top of the shoe! Design still great looking but quality not the same.

Brands I'd also recommend: Pro Keds and other Vintage Tennis Shoes

This used to be my "go to" shoe. They have really cut corners, so much that I am considering not wearing any longer. The other reviews are correct. The quality has gone to hell. The insole is now very inferior. The "Smile" is flush with the toe instead of being recessed. The laces used to come with metal tips, now they are plastic. The tongue used to be slightly padded, now it is just a piece of cloth. The dye is even poor quality, I stepped in a puddle of water and the blue turned Pink. And what is with the white stitching?

I have easily owned 10+ pairs of these Purcells between 2004 to now. As usual I ordered a new pair and what I was delivered was such poor quality, I quickly returned them. The stitching was loosely sewn, the standard blue insoles are no more and the inner eyelets which use to reside on the fabric are now half on the fabric half on the rubber sole...I was so bummed to return them and do not plan on purchasing any new Purcells due to their decrease in quality. Very disappointed.

Nice enough shoes, but the toe box for the Purcell is definitely tighter than for regular Converse. I had to go up nearly 3 sizes from what I normally wear in Converse for these to fit.

I was very disappointed with these shoes. I bought the same style a few years ago. (different color though) And they were the most comfortable shoes right out of the box. I wore them out and needed new ones. Bought these and they were very uncomfortable. It's been a few weeks now and they are just starting to get broken in. My feet are still hurting a bit. So I'm not happy with converse for changing what was a nice shoe to a not so nice shoe. Zappos however did a fine job on selling and shipping the shoes to me.

Not quite the same fit or insole as the slightly more expensive Jack Purcell CP's. This may not be a deal breaker for everyone, but was for me.

This is an extremely comfortable shoe, but the picture is misleading. The sole is a cream color that differs from the shoe lace. In addition there is an extra layer of shoe sole at the tip above where the toes are that make the shoe look bulky. Just wasn't what I was expecting so returning.

Different, but better! I read other reviews about the changes to these shoes, and hesitated to buy them again. I'm glad I went ahead and ordered a new pair. The differences seem minor - I wouldn't have noticed unless someone had pointed them out - and the comfort level is so much higher. This new pair feels like it has more support and cushion. I've worn them all day and my feet feel great. Change can be good!

At age 53 I still love the classic style of Jack Purcell's. I ware them with everything from boyfriend jeans to little summer dresses. that same classic styling has lasted decades and at times has made them hard to find but Zappos has always had them. so I can always find my favorite tennis shoe.

I love Jack Purcell. These are my 3rd pair as I wear them a lot. They have more support than other Converse styles and get more comfortable over time. Zappos is the best. Quick delivery and easy returns.

Bought these for my son for school, on Zappos because we couldn't find this shoe in local stores in his size. Love Zappos' selection! Converse is a cute shoe, I understand why kids like them. But they are not made to be durable, unfortunately. They wear out quickly. It's a shame, too, because Converse could easily increase the quality and durability with little increase in cost to produce.

I was hesitant to get these at first because I need shoes with arch support or else my feet will hurt for the next few days. I was really surprised how comfortable they were after wearing them for a whole day at work. I always loved the style of this shoe and I highly recommend it!
