If you like the regular Converse All-Stars then you will most likely love the Converse Jack Purcell. The Purcell is both lighter and all around more comfortable than the All-Stars. I have several pairs of Jack Purcells and they are all very comfortable and the fit and finish is consistent. The Purcell runs true to size, unlike the All-Stars. The only downside is that the Purcell is not available in as many colors and styles like the All-Star but hopefully that will change soon. Like I mentioned at the start, if you ever tried a pair of All-Stars, which most people I know have, and liked them then definitely get a pair of Purcells and you will like them just the same, if not more.

These were my go-to shoe for almost any outfit, but the white ones that Zappos sent me were not the ones pictured. They were Purcells, but as one other reviewer stated, these aren't the same shoes. The insole is now a tan color, and is not the blue 'suede-feeling' sole that you could so easily go barefoot in...the Jack Purcell logo is no longer present on the tongue. The two eyelets on the inside arch are now put through the rubber. The toe box is longer. The upper is now only one cheap-feeling canvas layer, as is the tongue. The laces are thin and have no metal tips. The Jack Purcell 'smile' is now level with the rubber on the toe, not recessed as before. Not sure if the company was trying to cut costs, but this shoe now feels cheap. I have since returned them and hope I can find a white pair from the better days. I'm disappointed with the changes to this shoe.

Pretty disappointed with Converse for these. I've had a pair of Jack Purcells on rotation in my closet since I was 15 (~4 pairs in total) and they've always been my go-to. But like many have said in reviews, their quality has really gone down. These do not fit the same as past pairs I've had; the footbed is not as comfy nor does it have as good of arch support, the laces don't have the silver tips anymore, the tongue is no longer printed with their logo, they run smaller than they used to, and they just don't feel as substantial anymore. Decided to return this pair. After 10 years, it be time to find a new pair of white sneakers. :(

I got these because the "Signature" model was unavailable in my size. While these are okay, they are not the ones I wanted, and Zappos still doesn't have the Signatures in size 11 white. Over a month! Is that a Zappos problem, or a Converse company problem? I don't know, but I'm still disappointed.

Original Jack Purcells, not the new, cheaper version that Converse is now selling. You can tell that they're the originals if they have the blue soles. Stock up before they sell out...

I have been wearing Jacks for years & have not found a more comfortable & neatly stylish sneaker besides my running shoes. These are street ready for anything. They are true to size & look snazzy! Only bummer is that they used to be made in USA.

I decided to get the shoes despite negative reviews of current iteration. I remember loving the pair I owned when I was six years old, and I must say, the feeling is the same three decades later. Great shoe. Very comfortable. Tried Superga and the fit was not for me. They had an arch support in the wrong spot for me and did not flatter my foot. I think the Purcell's are more flattering on my foot. They seem true to size. I wear a 7.5 or an 8. The 7.5 fits me fine. Maybe the other version was better, but I have no experience of that one. I actually like the thin canvas for summer. I ordered the white. Made in China, but what isn't these days?

I buy a pair of Jack Purcell's every year When it starts to get warm. I loved everything about them. But Converse came along and apparently decided to make them less expensive to manufacture and then raised the price. The embroidered logo is gone from the tongue, the loop logo is gone from the footbed, the grommeted vents moved down and now overlap the edge of the soles, and overall the canvas and "rubber" soles have been downgraded. I still like them a lot -- but I no longer love them. I really wish they hadn't done that.

Major style downgrade from previous version. The insoles are of lower quality, and shoe appearance has changed to be more like a modified All-Star than a unique Jack Purcell. Been wearing Jack Purcells for a number of years, but this may be my last pair.

Don't like the hew look. No changes since the 30's, BALONEY! They changed the iconic look of the toe of the shoe with the stripe recessed and placed it on the outside of the toe. Is there less than one star for style?

Jack Purcells are a classic. Yes they've updated the foot bed. I find them more comfortable than they used to be. And tons more comfortable than Chucks. The classic smile is still there, and it's made of rubber and not painted and doesn't rub off. I don't know what other people are talking about there. The canvas is less thick than it used to be, but it's still good quality canvas. These are great shoes. Thanks Zappos!

I'm normally a 5 1/2 in Chucks and got it in this size but it was a little tight in the front but not to the point where I can't use them. I really love them. I'm thinking of just getting a 6 next time these wear off.

I have had my Purcells for about 8 months and they have held up very well. Even though it hasn’t been a lengthy amount of time, here is my review of the shoes. Durability Like I said in the beginning, I have had my Purcells for about 8 months and have real no damage to them (yet). All the stitching, sole, and even the laces are holding up very well even though they have been through some harsh weather. I do have a shoe rotation therefore I do not wear them everyday which does help their longevity. I believe you would find them to last even if they are your main shoes. Sizing It terms of size, you would find them to be true to size. They fit and feel great however, they are a narrow shoe, therefore, if you have really wide feet, I would advise you to try them on first to see how they feel. Style The greatest part of the Purcells is indeed their look. I never had the old style, so, I cannot say how they compare but you would find them be very stylish. They go great with shorts, jeans, chinos, and even corduroy. You would find them to be your go to sneaker. Comfort The Purcells have a brutal break in time. Your heels and toes will have no mercy when breaking them in because of their quality build and narrow structure. However, after the break in time, they feel awesome even if you wear them without socks.

The shoes are adorable and perfect for casual wear but they do feel a little big. I ordered a 6 which is my typical size but had to wear two pairs of socks because they are a little big. Not the most comfortable shoes in the world, especially having to stand for long periods of time, but not a lot of shoes are comfortable these days.

These are my first pair of Jack Purcells, I usually wear All-Stars but I thought I would punch it up a bit. I bought the black and I really like them! They seem to be a little more grown-up and also have more arch support. They are a little long, I bought a woman's 8 and I probably could have gone down to a 7.5 but they're fine and I don't have to worry about my toes hitting the end if I walk a lot. Overall, cute and comfortable.

Sad. These shoes were great but the versions now sold are cheaply made. On my last two pairs the canvas separated from the rubber after a couple of months. Too bad. I hope that the manufacturer will read these reviews and build a better shoe even if it costs more.

I'm very pleased with these. My only complaint is that they get a little narrow in the toe. It's not a style issue, but makes them slightly less comfortable than they could be.

When will somebody out there in the corporate world get it through their heads that maybe the reason for brand loyalty is the product and not the brand itself and stop messing with a good thing in the interest of saving/making money? I am sure that everyone who bought pair after pair of the old Jack Purcells would have been more than happy to pay a few extra bucks to ensure that the quality of the shoes remain the same. Now I will have to make do with my remaining two pairs of the old style and wear them into the ground, because the new pair I bought this year are not even a pale imitation of the old version. Also, if you have been wearing the old version, you might want to go half a size up from what you think your size is because I found that their new insoles have a ridge at the heel that pushes your foot forward quite a bit.

The original! I love these Jack Purcells! Since the quality of tretorns has gone down since the 80's, I decided to resurrect another "tennie". These are substantial canvas shoe. Perhaps a big fashion don't, but I wear them with shorts, casual skirts and jeans (especially cute with boyfriend jeans) I would recommend ordering a half size smaller. I have a normal woman's foot and the Jacks are just a bit wide. I think that is due to men's sizing.
