Buy the Dr. Martens leather balsam with these. The break in will be easier, and it's good for them.

I agree that the boots are not the same. My soles have worn off in less that 3 months. I bought them for the quality and style. But no function no fashion.

Got these because they're supposed to be great quality, cool shoes, comfortable etc. They are definitely cool, and of average comfort, though it did take a good month of wearing band-aids on my ankles to break them in. I agree with the other reviewers in that they aren't great quality. The leather is painted, not dyed, so in the first week of wear, a patch of the paint scraped off to reveal the tan leather underneath. It looks like mud on the shoe. I am now ~8 months into wearing them and they continue to develop cracks around the crease from walking. Which also open to reveal mud-colored bare leather. I'm all for distressed looking docs, but these uppers aren't getting distressed from wear: they're disintegrating. They still look cool, but I can tell that another week of wear will see a crack straight through to a hole. On sizing: I went with a size UK 4 (US 6) even though I usually wear a US 7, per the advice of other reviews to size down, and they fit.

Felt a little large, but Doc Martens tend to feel that way, and I've been cursed with narrow feet. Thick socks ought to do the trick. Look great, a little tough to break in. Glad I finally purchased these.

The fit and style were fine. The Chinese made DM 1460s felt cheap. The leather was thin with no lining or the kind of attention to detail you'd expect from Docs. I sent them right back. In my opinion they were not worth the price being charged.

These were my 15th birthday present. I received the 1460 Black Patent. I got a size up which felt great from my perspective. There are many reviews saying order up or order down. I think it is best to try them on for yourself just to see how they might feel, with your own 2 feet.

I love Doc Martens, these are not my first pair. Ordered these through Zappos, they came promptly, exactly as described, and I am happy to be wearing them right now. I would order through Zappos again in the future without reservation.

I have three pairs of Dr Martens that I purchased in the early 80's and they still wear/look great. I bought a pair last year cheap Chinese imports and they wore out in nine months. BY THE UK VERSIONS...they are worth the price!

Great boot! Good fit...order 1/2 size smaller than your normal size. Break-in time is a little longer than usual, but once done, extremely comfortable! Use a good boot oil, I recommend Dr. Martens brand, to keep leather and seams soft during break-in and for ongoing protection. You're going to love this boot.

Comfortable? Yes. Durable? Negative. I'm on my feet for fifty to sixty hours a week in food service, and I beat on shoes. Asides from general wear and tear, everything from bleach to boiling soup gets splashed on them. Being the cheapskate that I am, I've been spending thirty bucks at Walmart or Payless every three or four months for shoes that wear out quickly, and hurt your feet along the way. I was getting tired of this after a few years, and decided to spend some cash on a "good" pair of shoes. I had a pair of 1460s way back when, and they took everything I could give them for five or six years. Good boots. Haven't even thought about Dr. Martens in ages, when I came across them on here and figured, "What the hell, seems like a good investment." I spent more on boots that came with the cheapest, barely-there insoles imaginable. That being said, once I bought some gel inserts and broke them in, they wore like a dream. I mean they were borderline superb. The slip resistance is above average, too. After having them about four months, the leather (which is a lot thinner and flimsier than I recollect) began to wear in the way that only the cheapest leather does, and finally it began to crack. This after having mink oiled them several times, cleaning them as often as possible, and conditioning them once a week. These things look like a marine's boots who just got back from two years of combat. Awful. I still wear them, and they're still like walking on air, but now the leather has this odd pattern of creases and ridges, and there are several small tears in it. They look bad. I mean, you spend that kind of money on footwear, you'd expect them to look halfway presentable, or, at the very least, not have the leather tear. Didn't mean to write a novel here, but this makes me upset. Maybe I'll give Wolverine or Timberland a shot next.

I love Docs and I have many pair. I ordered these in Cherry Red Smooth in January 2005. Still love them today. Unfortunately, they are still as uncomfortable today as they were when I bought them. The leather is very stiff. I used to get blisters on my heels every time I wore them. Now, I just remember to put band-aids on before I wear these Docs.

I am astonished and amazed at Dr. Marten's ability to deform leather into such a cheap, rubberized-vinyl substance. I complained years ago about the cardboard quality of newer, non-English made Docs, but I am now reconsidering - the baloney used to make these new ones is incredibly worse. I would ask Zappos for a refund if I hadn't already worn off the thin and 'fine' finish in only two days of wear. If you appreciate old Docs, you will be more satisfied with something else. Would gladly pay more for the quality of old Doc Martens.

These were a gift for my husband. I ordered the Police boots and these 1460's for him to choose from. These have a pad whereas the police boots do not even though the description says they do. These 1460's were soft and comfortable right out of the box. They are warm and look really sharp.

These did not look at all like the picture - harder leather, no suppleness to it. They were also HUGE even for someone like me that often wears DMs. Ordering a full size smaller than usual, and in a different material.

They're Docs. They're classic and will last forever. They do run a little big. My husband is a 9.5 and I ordered the 10. He just wears them with heavy socks and that seems to work.

These are not the same Dr. Martins that they use to be. My feet hurt so much that I cannot wait to take them off. I stopped wearing them. I now have very expensive paper weights. Wearing Rockports for comfort. I miss the old Dr. Marts. Must have bought 15 pairs over the last 20 years. Never again.

I agree with the reviewer who said this boot looked like something out of Walmart. The leather looked like vinyl, felt like vinyl and behaved like vinyl. They felt clunky when I tried them on because there was no give in the leather. These Chinese made boots are at a low price point, but they are not the same English made boots we wore in the '90s. I am one who would rather pay a higher price for quality than a lower price for a substandard product.

There is terrible material on the back of the heel, it breaks apart, balls up, and rolls up creating a hot spot on the heel and wore out in two weeks. I will be looking into the warranty.

If you want the old Dr. Martens you used to know and love, you need to buy the Vintage style ones only offered through Dr. Martens. These boots offered at Zappos are made in China, not England. That is why they suck.

Dr. Martens used to be made in England. Those where the finest shoes with the best material. I still have a pair purchased in the late 90's. They are well worn but still in great shape. The new Dr. Martens are made in China. The material used is awful. They do not wear well, and the fit is nothing like the old. I am said to say I will no longer be buying this brand. I would have paid twice the price for the old quality and craftsmanship.

I was so excited to get these in the mail and sadly they are way too large. I wear a US9 so I ordered a UK7 but they were at least a full size to big. I will be sending them back. Unfortunately I will have to get another style since I can't find the ones I would like in my size, but that's okay because zappos makes it easy and all doc martins look good. I really wanted to give it 5 overall stars but since it's not true to fit I can't.

These boots are amazing. I have wanted them for years, and never got the balls to see if I could pull them off. Now I never want to take them off! They are comfortable as all getout, and they look amazing. Keep them clean, watch them become your own boots that no one else could ever claim.

I have always wanted an old school pair of Docs and this is it. They are comfortable as always and fit perfectly. The classic black leather goes well with jeans or dress pants. Dress up and still add a touch of coolness to your style. Remember to order up a size because they are marked in U.K. Sizes.

My old Doc Martens are on their last leg, I have owned them about 6 years now and ride my motorcycle with them a lot. I just ordered a new pair and holy moley, they have changed! AND not for the better. I read a review about how cheaply made they are now, but ignored it as you will always have somebody not happy with a product, but he was spot-on. They feel very cheap and the leather is paper-thin. Not sure what happened here, but PLEASE go back to the old way you guys used to make this boot, because back then it was a rock-solid boot which I had no problem paying a higher price. But these are very cheaply made compared to my old ones! Do not buy this boot until they change their leather! Very disappointed.....
