Frye Engineer 12R W Boot - Love my new Frye Engineer Boots. I haven't been out on my motorcycle yet to try them out, but I love the way they look. Some break-in time still needed after a month, but I can't complain. Will rate 5 Stars in comfort when I get them broke in. MADE IN THE USA! Keep America Working, People!

Can’t get on! Loved the boots, the left one was difficult, but once on felt true to size and comfortable, but the right one, I couldn't get on at all. This has never happened to me before.

Sock trick - I love these boots and they feel good once you get them on, but they are tough to get on. I've found a sock trick that helps. Don't put your sock on all the way... have the sock hanging off your toes about 3 or 4 inches and then put the boot on. Your foot slides against the sock easier and the sock gets pulled on by the boot. Can't think of a better way to describe this. It's the opposite of what happens when you take the boot off. Your sock gets pulled partially off when you pull the boot off. That aside, AWESOME boots.

Love 'em - They’re kind of stiff still, but I'm breaking 'em in slowly... they look great with skinny jeans inside.

These boots are beautifully constructed. They are a little stiff fresh out of the box, but don’t' have that brand new look. I look forward to years of wearing this classic style. You can always count on Frye for quality.

What I ordered - Great purchase. Was nervous to buy shoes online first time, but they are exactly what I expected. Took a few days to break them in, esp on the shin. Now they are good. Comfortable and easy to wear for long periods of time. Very happy with my purchase!

A great pair of boots! I love my boots! They are true to size - I wear a size 10, and look great with jeans or a skirt. I had one little knot on the back of one that was rubbing my leg, but I clipped that off, and now they are incredibly comfortable. Love them!

I love these boots! First things first - they run pretty true to size, and a little roomy compared to other Fryes I have. I typically wear an 8.5 in all shoes and boots, but sometimes in Frye need to size up - not this time. They do NOT run wide - my slightly wide feet were not thrilled with wearing these the first few times. They do require a break in period. I tried (at-home) shoe stretchers with 2 pairs of socks - that helped. I found online someone who claimed to have worked for Frye, and for custom fit boots, he said to put the boots on, soak them in water, and them let them dry to your feet - they'd be perfect. I wasn't willing to try that...until I got stuck in the worst rainstorm my area has been in 20 years. In these boots. I was soaked through...but by the time I dried off, my boots fit gloriously. I will say that time aside, these boots have pretty much kept my feet dry. This leather ages QUICKLY - I wore them to walk through some rocks / boulders, and to ride a horse - and they looked beat to hell within a week. That was the look I wanted, so no complaints from me. I don't know that I'd order them again - they look so beat up now that it's hard to wear them anywhere other than someone super casual. But for rough and tumble, tough (wearing, not looking) boots? Right on the money.

Okay, I'll just admit it. I saw Michelle Williams wearing similar boots in "Blue Valentine," and I thought, I have to have them. These are a great style and reasonable price for Frye, which can be expensive. There was a break-in period. But now I love them, hip, comfortable, and sturdy.

I love my boots, but I recommend trying them on or knowing your size. They are leather, so keep in mind they will stretch, even when they are super hard to get on at first. However, one of my boots fits differently than the other. One now glides on perfectly (which didn't when I first got them) and the other is still being stubborn. Perhaps the two boots were made separately or something? I'm not too sure. This may have only happened to me. The low comfort rating is because of the one stubborn boot which is still very difficult to get on and just seems made differently. Also, there is something that hurts my ankle when I wear them. Not sure what that is. If both boots fit like the non-stubborn boot I would give perfect ratings.

There were a ton of reviews that said these run big and a ton that said they run small so I just went with my normal size which worked for me. I have narrow feet and these do run pretty narrow. I would not call these comfortable shoes. They gave me blisters right off the bat and continue to make my feet sore when I wear them. Also they are incredibly heavy. Now for the good - despite the fact that they hurt my feet I have been wearing these boots non-stop! They look good with everything and I don't know what kind of shoe design magic they pulled but they actually make my legs look long - how that was achieved in an ankle boot I have no idea! Also these are real-deal, indestructible motorcycle boots (which is why they are so heavy and stiff), rain, mud, whatever is no problem. I know I will have these boots for life!

Love the look of these. Definiitely had to go up a half size for fit, otherwise, there would be no pulling on the boots! But, once on they are comfortable.

Love this boot! Originally tried the Harness 12R but decided on this one for a couple of reasons: 1) I have wide feet and the Harness just didn't feel right and it seems the Harness is the in boot right now. I see women in them often, but don't see the Engineer at all (and it's stylish too!). I've received lots of compliments and can wear them with skirts/dresses, leggings, skinny jeans, or just under a regular pair of pants. The one downside is that they don't have very good traction, but I haven't really found any stylish boots out there that do have good traction for practicality too.

This is my third pair of Frye boots and they do not disappoint! The soft wool keeps me warm and they hold their shape pretty well. This is a great boot that goes with a dress or with jeans. I can do quite a bit of walking in these and have worn them for a whole day without having sore feet. I wear a 7.5/8 but stick to a 7.5 for Frye boots.

I love these boots. They look great with jeans and are true to size. The leg of the boot is a much stiffer leather than some of my other Frye boots and therefore makes them a little harder to pull on as there isn\'t a zipper.

Very nice boot. Expect it to last the rest of my lifetime! Had to return the 1st pair for a half size larger so that I could put an insole in and still have plenty of room for my wide foot. I expect that this boot will become even more comfortable as the soft leather molds to my foot. Very nice sturdy women\'s boot. I recommend this item.

Looks: The boots are very attractive - I have pretty wide calves, and had been looking for knee-high boots (all of which seem to be too tight) but these hit me below the calf, and are somewhat wide too. I have gotten nothing but compliments on them. I got the gaucho pair, which looks fashionably distressed. They go well with jeans, khakis, skirts, and leggings. Size: I thought mine were a bit too large (I ordered my usual 8.5), as my heel slipped somewhat, but apparently that is expected with non-zip-up boots like cowboy boots, riding boots, and these. Apparently if they didn't, you wouldn't be able to get your foot into the boot. I've been told that so long as the top of the boot is sufficiently snug against your instep, the fit is correct - and sure enough the boot has never felt loose or as if it were about to fall off, even when I was dangling my feet on a ski lift. Comfort: It took two or three days to break them in, but once they broke in they were fairly comfortable. The one very annoying thing about them is that there seems to be a line on the insole right where the heel ends and the rest of the shoe begins - it seems to be made of two separate pieces, and for the first week I could really feel it even through socks. After a week though, either my feet got used to it or the leather wore in enough that I can't feel it except if I'm going up a steep hill. That, and the fact that they're fairly heavy and the sole isn't all that flexible is why I'm giving it 4 stars (from what I've read, the sole will become even more flexible over time). Wear: I've ground down the back of the heel somewhat, as I sometimes tend to shuffle. It wore down in the first week, which bothered me somewhat. However, I've worn it through rain, dust, fog, and even for a mild hike up a dirt trail, and it still looks quite lovely. Be a little careful when kicking the boots off - it can scuff the leather, but with the gaucho style a little scuffing looks fine.

The upper part of these boots are seriously difficult and PAINFUL to get on. I actually put them back in the box to return, then took them out and tried again -- twice -- before finally succeeding in getting them on my foot (with nylon socks). I decided to keep trying because the leather looks really high-quality, and they seem like they’ll last for years (and, eventually, break in). Don’t order a half size up, because if you ever manage to actually get your foot all the way in, there’s a fair amount of wiggle room (even thought I wear a 7.5 - 8, and bought the 7.5). No doubt I’ll be able to wear my winter socks with them down the road, but it’s going to take a while!

Was looking for a stylish black boot with enough heft to withstand a New England winter, but still look great with knits and tights. Tried both this boot and the Campus style which was a tad tight around my muscular calves. I ordered 8s as I usually have to go up one half size for this brand. Wears well with a medium sock. Toe box is perfect to wiggle toes but not be loose. Minimal "slip" at heel. Very good support at sole. Wish the leather were a bit softer for slouchier look, but comfortable from first wearing, and I anticipate short break in time until perfection. Quality product.

Awesome boots. As many reviewers have already pointed out, very hard to get on and off, especially if you have high arches/instep. Very nearly impossible, in fact. (The price you pay for no unsightly zippers, I guess. I hate zippers!) I ended up having to order a half-size up just to get them on, after I injured my foot battling with my actual size 8 (which, perversely, was plenty roomy in the footbed, once I managed to get the things over my instep). If you have very high arches, it's almost not worth trying. That said, I did try, exchanging the 8's for 8.5 and, though they're roomy, and still no picnic getting on/off, I'm glad I persevered. Obviously sturdy, well-made, fabulous looking, outstanding arch support, and I can tell they will last many years. And although they're not cheap, I think the price is reasonable for this quality. Don't give up!

I do like these boots a lot, so much that I still kept them even though they leave black dye on my skin or socks. I just always wear dark socks with them now. They are comfortable and look great with jeans or casual skirts. I usually get 7 1/2 size, but opted for the 8, the right choice for me. More room makes them warmer and space enough for an insole if needed.
