Since the days of selling arch supports to police officers and waiters, New Balance has been a brand concerned with meeting the needs of the everyday athlete. In pursuing this goal, they developed an "Endorsed By No One" philosophy, which holds that a superior product will sell itself better than any superstar athlete ever could. Part of producing New Balance shoes and athletic clothing is manufacturing it to fit all widths and sizes, because a better fit produces better performance.
To ensure the best fitting, best performing shoes and clothes, New Balance focuses on improving their technology and production methods. A big part of that is maintaining five manufacturing facilities here in the United States where they continue to produce New Balance shoes and apparel that meet the standards they've employed for 100 years. They have also remained committed to a core set of values that include integrity, teamwork and total customer satisfaction.

I was very disappointed in the New Balance MO989 as it was much narrower than marked. I didn't even bother to try them on but instead compared them to my favorite shoes the ASICS GEL-Kahana® 6. This NB was almost an inch narrower than the Asics in toe box width. The NB M0989 did generally appear like the picture but the workmanship was disappointing for the cost of the shoe. I sent them back and received typical Zappos.com service. I'm thankful Zappos.com offers free return shipping. It makes shoe shopping less stressful. If only Zappos.com could encourage shoe manufacturers to standardize shoe widths and sizes I'd be even more satisfied.

Excellent fit and good support for walking. I have a narrow foot and sometimes a "Medium" or D width is a little wide -- even with some NB models I own. Like the design and color combo. Very comfortable with a mid weight sock from first use. Suggest ordering a "wide" if debating between M and W.

These shoes fit me like a glove BUT I'm wearing a 14 4E and my true size is 13.5 3E, so yes they run a tad small but I find with most cushioning shoes they do run a little smaller in size, my guess is from the extra cushioning. I got tired of trying to find "the perfect shoe" so now I get what is close that I like and I adjust by buying different insoles, sometimes thinner sometimes the shoe needs thicker. I bought the 689's fit great but zero cushioning so I put rubber insoles in them and now I love em, like wearing house slippers. Didn't like the little pin holes.

Look good and high quality but don't seem to be very comfortable. I was hoping after a break-in period they would be more comfortable. They don't seem to have much arch support so I may add some inserts.

I have worn these shoes for about 3 weeks and I have decided I am not going to be able to wear them any longer. The first day of wearing my feet hurt quite a lot afterward. I chalked that up to new shoes and continued to wear them, loving the fact that they are water proof etc I wanted to be able to wear them to work where I come into contact with lots of water. They are the correct size, but no matter how loose the strings are the tops of my feet hurt and my feet slide forward, pushing the tops of my feet toward the tongue. Any more loose on the strings would be unsafe and wouldn't help the problem either. I'm not sure why this is happening, I have never had this problem with other shoes, or even other New Balance shoes for that matter, I have 5 pair of them (different style). I have narrow feet and high arches, this may not be a problem for others, but wanted to share.
