Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I am in love with these boots. They are exactly what I wanted in booties and they are gorgeous. I actually ordered three different colors to try on-the dark brown, grey and the whiskey. I do not care for the dark brown color, the grey is a really pretty black/brown combination and the whiskey is a beautiful and bright cognac (with a little bit of orange) color. The burnished look on the toe of grey and whiskey is awesome and the zipper just makes these boots super cool looking. The fit is great and it does not feel like my feet are going to slide out of them, and the heel is the perfect height and I do not feel like my toes are all scrunched up in the front. The height of the shaft of these booties is perfect, too.

As the previous reviewer said, these are gorgeous boots-- beautiful leather and color, superbly made. But I am really sorry that I am going to have to send them back. They do not work for me. I want boots to wear with jeans. The openings on my jeans are all about 13 inches-- neither skinny nor straight. The Leslie is too wide at the top to wear under and my jeans do not look good with the jeans tucked in either. These are really a short boot rather than what I think of as a bootie, which would be more snug around the ankle. If you're planning to wear with skinny jeans or tights, or alternatively with wider boot legs, they would be fine. These boots are more beautiful in person than the images on the web site suggest. They also have a more fashion forward vibe to them. The heel is under cut quite a bit -- noticeable when you put them on-- you feel like your weight over the heel is a bit more foreword than in a more traditionally cut boot. This is just an observation, neither positive or negative, but it surprised me. The color is just beautiful, quite dark and subtle a deep cool wood brown/black. I wish there were more offerings in this color. Much better than the conventional warm chocolate brown color. Finally, I wish Zappos had a tool on their web site to allow the buyer to easily view side by side images of different boot so you could compare profiles, heels, heights, etc.

Most of my favorite boots have been Fryes -- and this pair may well be my favorite boots of all. I've been looking for some perfect boots to replace the Ariat jodhpur boots that I've had for years -- and these may have even surpassed my old favorites. They're comfortable, versatile, stylish, and well-made. Expensive and actually worth it. They'll last for years, manage multi-seasonal wear, and look awesome in the process! And unlike some Fryes, these felt comfortable right out of the box. Love them! And kudos to Zappos for notifying me that they had a pair in my size!
I'd also recommend: Ariat

Love love these!! They're so stylish, and well-made. I just walked about 7 blocks in the snow with them after a full day of work and my feet are are doing pretty good. I have slightly wide feet, so these felt just a tad narrow but that might have been due to my thick winter socks. I originally bought the whiskey colored ones and it was hard to match them to clothes, so I have the black ones now. They are perfect! They are more expensive then my regular shoe purchases, but after my cheaper shoes falling apart just after a few months, these quality boots are going to pay off since I walk everywhere.

I'd been searching for booties that I could wear with both skinny jeans and skirts for awhile and these are the ones! They have a large enough opening to fit skinny jeans without awkward bunching but still look polished enough to wear to work at a casual office. The heel is just the right height to give a little lift without being uncomfortable and the leather is beautiful, in classic Frye fashion. I also appreciate the zipper detailing, which gives a little edge to an otherwise western-y style.
