I was hoping for another pair of the I, Robot Will Smith leather Chuck Ts; y'know, looks exactly like a pair of black Chucks, but have a leather upper instead, cause I love my pair of those. Anyway, since Zappos is calling the black ones black, and since they look black in the picture, even when I studied it zoomed in close, I decided to ignore the fellow who said that the black isn't black. I mean, I figured he'd just gotten the wrong pair sent or something like that, but no, I don't think they could've mistakenly done the same mistake twice, especially ship the wrong shoe to someone who'd actually read the initial comments that said that it's brown. So, for anyone who really cares, the black one of these is not black. It's undeniably brown, a dark brown, but brown nonetheless. Which is sad, since it's a beautiful shoe, with nice soft leather. By the way, when I read the name of it, that they say it's scratched leather, I thought it'd be a bit worn looking, with some color piercing scratches that go through the dye, so there would be some whitish scratches all over it. If it had shown too much in the picture, I wouldn't have purchased them, but they looked good, so, because of Zappos free shipping and all of that, I figured I'd try a pair. Having now seen them, I'd say what they refer to as scratches are just texture. They're not a smooth leather, they have an uneven surface, with some little higher places and then not-so-high places. Not huge differences, just a little bit of texture, which makes them look and feel even better. Also, the Chuck T patch on the side of the shoe isn't white like the I, Robot ones, but is dyed to match the rest of the shoe. I think they fit just like any pair of Chuck Ts. Someone made some comments about having to do something weird with a pair of leather Chucks. To that I'll say that it took me wearing them a bit and then they fit beautifully. Also, as most Chuck Ts have no insole, so no arch support and no cushioning for the foot, they are wonderful to wear with my podiatrist-created insoles that I move from one pair of shoes to another. These expensive insoles fit, in fact, better in Chuck Ts than in other athletic shoes. I'd think most people would like to use some sort of insole with them no matter what (like even if you don't normally use insoles at all), but they do work really well with insoles.I'm sending my pair back, because I don't really do brown shoes, but I really wish they had these in a real black, because I'd love to have them in the right color. Hopefully this keeps other folks from making the same mistake I did: Ignored the one comment about color because only one person was making it. The color black is not black with regard to this shoe. This color is the only reason I'm marking them down on the ranking (I wouldn't have ranked them in stars if I didn't have to).

One of the best looking Chucks - This scratched leather variation - especially the chocolate brown is a great looking shoe. I am tempted to get a second pair of the same color. They fit as any standard Chucks canvas or leather. Get these while they are available!

Good Stuff! Shoes are great. Comfortable, but as with all leather shoes, the more you wear them, the better they stretch to fit.

Great! But Brown not black/charcoal - Good! I LOVE Zappos service. As always! Though these are actually brown- not black/charcoal at all. Also I didn't see any of the stated 'scratched' leather appearance about the shoe. I happen to like the brown so it ended up being fine. If you want black, these aren't. If you want brown, these are. I have another pair of Converse hi-tops that are black leather with black soles, toes and laces that were really comfortable from the beginning. These hurt the little toe on both feet due to some weird difference in how or where the tongue on this pair is sewn. I like them but need to rotate them often or they really hurt my feet. Hoping the leather softens over time.
