Strange fit - After all the positive comments and high praise for Frye boots, I decided to invest in a pair. They are beautiful and the craftsmanship is amazing. Sadly, I'm returning them because of the odd fit: they were large for the size, yet the width was perfect. And the ankle and shaft were huge, even though my calves are wider than average. Is this supposed to (eventually) be a slouch boot? If so, it should be mentioned in the description.

The best boots I have ever owned!! A stunning boot. Even more beautiful in person. I got them in brown and the color is gorgeous. These are by far the most comfortable pair of Frye boots that I have ever put on. They do not require any breaking in and since the sole and heel aren't too chunky the boots look really elegant. Perfect height - not as tall as the Paige riding boot. They are extremely flattering, classy, timeless and worth the money.

Simply Perfect! Wow, the first day I wore these boots I got three compliments! They're beautiful. I got the black leather and they're the perfect mix of biker chic and classic styling--they'll never go out of style. I got my regular size and the fit is perfect. I would NOT go up or down even half a size. The width is great, as is the calf circumference. My foot is a tad bit on the wider side (but not nearly enough to warrant a wide size) and my calves are muscular. These boots go on and off without any problems, despite the fact that they don't have inner straps to pull them on/off. Super comfortable, too! I'm 5'1" and the boot length is just right (unlike the Paige riding boot, which was too tall for my short legs). Buy these, you won't regret it!

I'm in love with my boots. There boots are good lookin', comfortable, and they go with everything. The top of the boot is wide enough to shove any pant leg into. I always wear an 8.5. They fit great, but might be a tad on the big side. I have walked 3-4 miles in them and don't have any problems.

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Worth Every Penny - These boots are very comfortable and actually allow you to still look feminine with a flat boot... especially if you have bigger feet like me!

Great looking shoes. Very Comfortable. Fit great everywhere except the heel. It’s a little loose there, but the benefits of its support, fit elsewhere, and looks outweigh this minor flaw. I recommend these to any Keen lover. This is my second pair of Keens and I have to say I’m hooked.

Stunning! These boots are the new love of my life. They are not only gorgeous but also comfortable (I have high arches but these boots don't bother my feet) and look cute with everything! I normally wear a size seven in Frye, and these felt just slightly tight when I put them on but after a few wears they feel perfect. I got them in black and think I am going to order them in gray as well.

Navy wonderful boots - These boots fit great. I have a bad left foot and they fit beautifully. I recommend them very highly. I own a lot of Frye boots and these will be a favorite pair of mine and worn a lot.

Not worth it - As usual, the make and model are quite nice, but I have a size 10 (sometimes 10.5, but the 10 fit perfectly) and that means a shaft like a wind tunnel. I could invite friends to come over and have a party in the space around my calf. And I don't mind a little roominess either. Plus, I have medium-sized calves AND I tuck jeans in there AND I like things a bit rugged looking, bthis just looked ridiculous. I think for smaller-footed gals out there (or large-calved folks), these could be great boots, but I much prefer my Sunny multi-strap Fryes over these. Too bad.

LOOOOOVE these boots! These boots are awesome, the grey color is perfect for this fall. I have average calves and these fit like a glove - they might be tight for someone with more athletic calves. The size was almost dead-on, just a teensy bit big - not enough to merit the next size smaller, but if you are usually between half sizes, I would think you should size down or size up and wear thick socks. The width was normal, not roomy, but then my feet are slightly wider than normal. No arch support, but I think that's typical of riding boots. Gorgeous, soft, but not saggy leather.

Not for petite women - Oh how I wanted to keep these boots. The craftsmanship is impressive, the style is great. But, unfortunately, I looked like Puss in Boots with the boots coming up to my knees (too tall) and showing a lot of free space (too wide). Oh well...

Love them! Frye quality! Yes, they're a bit pricey...but worth it. I have a wide calf and small foot; this boot slips right on w/o a zip. The description was entirely accurate.

I love these boots! These are amazing boots! I ordered them in grey, and they are the prettiest shade of grey – totally fabulous for fall. I have large calves and they fit me perfectly. I think I need to order these in other colors. They are most definitely worth the money!

Right one fits, left one doesn't. I agree, these are slightly narrow for Fryes. I'm a 6.5, 95% of the time, and I can't even get my left foot in the shoe. I have the Veronica Slouch in 7 because they were hard to get on with a high arch, as well, but they have a more round toe, with a leaner toe box. I'm afraid these would be too long if I sized up. Gorgeous boots though and the slate is the perfect color!

Frye Paige Buckle Boots - I just got these in the mail today, thanks to the overnight shipping! They look great and are very comfy. I have large calves but these fit well and are easy to put on. I also ordered the Paige Riding Boots but they're too tight on the calves. I got the dark brown color and love it. They're dark enough that they can probably pass for black. I don't have enough room to tuck in jeans but they would look adorable with skirts and dresses.

Love. Bought these in grey. They are super comfy...love the styling. They seem to be a bit roomy in the calf (though I have skinny calves). Just got a compliment on them today in the grocery store.

Another homerun for Frye boots! A gorgeous riding boot, the buckles add to the look. Very tall, but easy on the calf. I own quite a few pairs of Frye boots and love them all. These are unique - in style, they are unlike any of the others I have. The usual gorgeous Frye leather and wonderfully made. Warning: they are fairly flat-heeled, so take that into consideration if you have trouble walking in flat shoes. Also, like the other reviewers, I found these narrower and perhaps a bit shorter than Fryes usually run on me; I still got my regular size though because I don't plan to wear heavy socks with these as I do with my other Fryes. (Usually my regular size is a bit wide for me.) I got the grey - and it's a true beautiful light grey.

Beautiful! These are boots are awesome. I always struggle to find boots because my calves are on the large side, but these fit perfectly. They are easy to pull on and they also stay in place (no heel slippage!). There is even room to tuck in pants if you want to. I'm usually a solid size nine in most shoes, and these nines were very true to size in my opinion.

Gorgeous Boots - I love my new boots. I own three different pairs of Paige boots and they are all the most comfortable shoes and the quality of the leather is just amazing. I found them to be true to size. My feet are very average and my calves are large 15". Another great buy, and Zappos is the best!!!
