There is something a little funny about these boots. I wanted them to be the everything-skinny jeans-dress- boot but they don't deliver. Even when I use the smallest buckle setting the leather at the ankle looks off. Bummer.

I love these boots! They're so cute, well made, and very comfortable! The heel does slip, probably even more for my big narrow foot, but you get used to it after a while and it doesn't cause rubbing. I think they are true to size, although the pointed toe might pinch a wide foot.

I. Love. These. Boots. They have paid for themselves in compliments alone. I wear an 8.5 usually, that's the size I got and they fit great. I've had them for two weeks, there was a very minor break-in period and now I'm wearing them without socks! I love, love, love them. I work in food service so it should be a testament to how comfortable they are that I wear them to work all day. I don't find the heel to be an issue; it's loose but it doesn't rub and I personally prefer it. If you are considering them GET THEM! You will not regret it!

Sized a bit small - I had Frye boots in the past, but this is my first boot purchase in many years. These were just too cute and I just love leather soles. Many folks have commented on the size. I'm a typical 7.5-8.0 size so I tried the 7.5 first. The toe is fairly pointy so the 7.5 really pinched. The 8's fit much better. The heels are loose but if you are used to wearing loose heels (e.g. Dansko clogs) then it probably won't seem so odd.

Fab boots! Love, love, love these boots! They are beautiful and great looking. I have a real problem with boots since I have big legs, but these fit perfectly and look great. I wear them with pants and long skirts. I wish they had a little padding in the sole, but that's easily fixed with inserts. The heels are very loose as others have mentioned, but once I got used to it, I stopped noticing. They are expensive, but I don't regret one penny. I'd love to get another pair.

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Come on home little doggies... Had a pair of tall Frye boots in college in the 70s. Loved them although with me having a wide foot & wide calves, I suffered a bit but looked great. Now, I'm older and wiser, but still lust for Frye boots. When I saw these shorties I had to get them. Also, now that I'm not a cattle rancher or never was I really don't have a need for "cowboy stitching" so this style fits me. Not sure why Frye people don't think wide feet women have money to spend on their shoes/boots, but I guess it's their loss not to offer wide sizes. With a shoe stretcher, I got the boot to fit just perfectly and with use, I look forward to them molding to my feet like a wonderful loving hug. As Nancy Sinatra always said, "These feet were made for walking and that's just what I'll do. One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you!"

Hate to send them back - The boot is beautiful as is the workmanship. I just wish they weren't so big in the heel. I have a fairly normal foot size and usually wear a Medium width. The heel is just so big that even with two pairs of socks, when I walk, my heel comes up and almost out of the boot. It is so loose that I can take it off without undoing the buckle. I would love to have this boot and would even order it in black as well if it fit properly. Maybe Frye will work on that for next season.

Love these boots - Okay, so these aren't the most comfortable shoes in the world. Like others have said, the heel is definitely loose and when I walk my heel does come up (like a flip flop). However, they are so unbelievably cute, so I don't mind. I ordered down half a size like some suggested, but they were too small. I bought my regular shoe size and they fit perfect, and thanks to Zappos great service, they overnighted everything for free! I'm definitely happy with the service and the boots.

So Cute - I felt these boots fit true to size; however, the heel is a problem. The heels slip constantly; I used a heel insert and used the strap to tighten more putting an extra hole in it. I think a lot of it is I have very small ankles. However, they are great boots and love the look, and you can't beat the quality of them.

Frye Dorado Short - I am having such a problem with these boots. I fell in love with them immediately because they are beautiful. I normally wear a 7.5 or 8 so I ordered a 7.5 in these and the heel slipped a lot and I just thought they looked big overall. So I got the 7 (thanks Zappos for e-mailing when my size came in!) and they felt a little snug but I figured they would stretch. Anyway, I wore them out today for the first time and after about an hour I literally had to buy a pair of flip flops to finish the day because the back of my heels hurt so much! The shoes are very stiff! So I just took them to a shoemaker who said he would soften the heel and stretch them for me. I really hope it works because they are fabulous looking boots. The brown is beautiful. If anyone has advice for me, let me know. I will not return them because I love them too much.

Beautifully perfect boot! Although quite expensive, this is worth the money. It’s a boot that seems like it will last many years. The leather is incredibly soft, the look is awesome and the fit is great! It was a little loose in the heel at first, but most boots do this at first until you wear them awhile. If you want to feel good about yourself, get this boot, you won't be sorry! If they were on sale, I'd get another pair!!!! The opening at the leg is quite roomy as it does NOT hug the leg, it’s baggy a bit and you could even put your pants inside (although I wouldn't) but just such a comfy boot! Great with a skirt too, probably because of the roomy loose fit.

Love them! I've always wanted some Frye boots. I've had three foot surgeries and cannot wear a boot with a thick sole and it seems that practically all Frye boots come with the thick rubber sole… until these. I have them in brown and black - the thin leather sole is perfect, the toe is not too pointy and not too round! They are just right and I look forward to wearing them for years and years!

Dorado Short - The length seemed pretty true to size, but the heel runs very wide on Frye boots. I found that I could keep my heel from slipping out of the boot by having the strap at the ankle shortened. Otherwise the boot is comfortable and the look is great.

A must for skinny jeans wearers! I have been hunting for great booties for a year. Not cheap ones, just great ones! I love these boots and the Frye quality means they will last forever. The brown is gorgeous so I got that, too. These fit like cowboy boots, so I ordered a half size smaller and they were perfect. Thanks for the free shipping so I could try on two sizes...

This a great boot! I'm really happy with my new my Dorado Frye boots, although I found they ran 1/2 size large. Thankfully, however, Zappos makes returns so easy this wasn't too much of a problem. They're very cute and totally recommend them!

Great basic - I have wide calves so I am always looking for good short but everyday boots. These fit my bill. I am so glad to find them and hope to get them in black too. Short and comfortable for all day wear, but gives that pulled together look. Thanks Frye! I can even add my orthotics.

GREAT LOOKING SHOE BOOT - Just received these in the brown --which is more like a light antiqued color, which is just what I wanted. Looks great under jeans or slacks. The heel is low and the front has a nice rounded toe, so makes a large foot look smaller. Very comfortable and beautifully made. Usually in Frye, I take a full size smaller, here I went half size and was perfect.
