Fantastic styling, but the heel is too roomy so the back of my foot pulled up when I walked. Also, these are for wide-calved women. Even with the adjustable strap (which only adjust so much), my legs were swimming in them. For this kind of money, I want a perfect fit. These were far from it.

Ahhh...I finally took the plunge and bought these in black. I think I have looked at every black knee length, low heeled women's boots out there! I got them today and have been wearing them around the house and I think I am going to have to send them back (sigh). They are just too tight across the toe area and too loose around the heel. In a cheaper shoe I could maybe take a chance that they will break in but for this amount of dough I can't take the chance. My Stuart Weitzman's, Charles David, and Juicy Coutureâ??s fit right out of the box. Heartbreaking but somehow I shall muster the diligence to find my black boots that are out there just waiting for me! :)

After reading all the nearly 100 reviews of this baby (a few times) I decided to take the plunge. Justifying the money spent on the fact that I will wear these forever and ever. So I just got them, and yes unfortunately, they're worth every cent. Maybe I'm just high right now on the scent of new leather, but these boots are simply perfect, looks-wise. The leather looks like the most high quality leather and they're extremely versatile - whether you want a structured boot or a slightly slouchy look - these babies fit the bill. I wanted a knee-high boot, but these come up to an inch and a half below my knee (I'm almost 5'7"), but that's okay; they still look elegant and tall. With regard to the roomy heel area - yep, it's too roomy initially, but as other lovely ladies have said here, that problem should go away after they've been worn in. Plus Frye says, it's not a Frye boot until 190 steps. It is a little narrow in the toe area, but not very uncomfortable. Nothing that time won't fix. Plus you can also take it to get it stretched. I love the fact that it has functional adjustable straps because I have average-thin calves and this was too roomy for me but was fine after adjustment. I don't recommend these for someone with skinny calves. Overall, a gorgeous investment which will pay dividends many years to come!

I love Frye boots but sadly these boots are not quite as elegant as they look in the photos...more rugged looking, actually, and the brown leather has a dull sheen. They are not rich looking at all. They are a tighter fit in the foot than the Shirley. They also are very tall. I had high expectations for these boots but sadly will be returning them. I am keeping the Shirley.

These are gorgeous boots, and I, too really dithered over spending that kind of money for one pair of boots. The sad fact, tho, is that no-one else is making a simple, classic riding boot. They are beautiful, elegant, the perfect length (I'm 5'5) and look stunning with skirts and dresses. I am totally picturing myself at 70 still looking damn hot in these, so that's how I justify the money! I got the dark brown and they are going with everything, black, charcoal, khaki, gray, navy. Basically, a very versatile style and color. I strongly recommend buying either your regular size or a half size up. I bought a half size smaller (mainly because of the reviews, also because Zappos didn't have my size) and they were really tight, length and width. After checking with Zappos to make sure they weren't getting my size in, I ordered my regular size 7.5, from another website. They are still a bit tight across the width but because the length is OK (just) I'm going to stick with these. I'm wearing them around the house with thick socks to try and stretch them out a bit, if that doesn't work I'll have them stretched properly. As to the heel slippage, if you have worn cowboy boots, you'll know that that eases up after a while. I am already noticing improvement. Thank you Zappos for the immaculate amd as always service.
About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

This boot is so beautiful and I am very disappointed that I have to send it back. The heel is very wide and I have a narrow heel, so it slips with every step. Blisters waiting to happen. I ordered a half size smaller, based on other reviews, and the length was right. The toe fit fine, so it seems odd that the heel is so big. Too bad, I would love to wear this boot. Zappos service perfect, as always.

I absolutely love these boots. I resisted buying them for over a year, but I am so happy with them I hardly wear anything else! They were a really great purchase. I feel that they run a tad on the larger side, so if you are deciding between sizes, go smaller!
These are indeed beautiful boots. Knee-high, mouth-watering leather, gorgeous detailing, great with skirts and dresses. I read every review here before ordering just to see what I was in for. I have NEVER paid more than $100 for a pair of shoes, so this was a practically life-changing investment on my part. I have to echo the sentiments of many others about the heel slippage, though. I am a true size 9, and while the base of the shoes fit perfectly, the sole is so stiff that it does not bend when I walkâ?¦thus causing the also stiff heel to rub up and down the base of my feet. BUT, that did not stop me from beginning my journey to breaks these babies in. Initially I resigned myself to wear them around the house for a little bit everyday...after a few days I felt I could handle it out in the real world. By the time I got home that night after work and a night at dinner I had quarter+ sized ripped open blisters on the backs of my feet...despite wearing bandaids underneath of socks. So, next step (now that it is too late to return them) is to take them to a leather/shoe craftsman in town. Maybe he can stretch the feet or make the soles more pliable. I know something has to be possible. I also got some of those sticky heel grips to try so that the shoes might stay with my heels as I walk. These options are still in the works, though. Bottom line: these are great boots visually, but just be aware that they are not a dream wear for everyone (even if they "fit" like a glove). Perhaps they are what true riding boots are supposed to be...stiff and sturdy. Not sure that equates to real-world wear, though. Here's hoping I can get my money out of these guys. Maybe I am supposed to get multiple rounds of blisters...will that eventually make them fit?

This is such a lovely boot, however, there is just so much extra room in the heel of the boot Iâ??m not sure if Iâ??m going to be able to keep it. It fits good everywhere else except for the heel. I ordered a size 8 and if I had ordered a size 7.5, it would have been too tight. I even put on a super thick pair of socks which then made the boot too tight and it still slips at the heel. I have the black leather pair and they fit great. I donâ??t know why this pair in the taupe color is fitting a little bigger. Take your chances when ordering the taupe color one. Like I said, the black leather pair fit just fine.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these boots. Hesitated in ordering because of price, but there was only 1 left in my size so grabbed it. They fit beautifully, and were comfortable from the first day. I typically wear 7.5, ordered that, and feel the fit is true to size. The heel does 'slip' a little, but I think its the type/fit of the boot (have other frye styles, and they all are a little loose rather than hugging the foot). Wore twice for shorter periods of time, then took them to NYC and wore them over several days with no discomfort. Continue to find them extremely comfortable - wear with tights or thin socks and need no more padding. Now... to justify them in another color! ;D

My experience with Zappos has been fantastic! I had a hard time fitting this boot-the sizes seem to vary from pair to pair but I really wanted them! Zappos let me send them back and forth and didn't make me wait for each return so that I could get just the right pair and not wait weeks and weeks! It was a fantastic experience and I have never been a big on-line shopper because it can be so expensive and difficult- but I will FOR SURE return to Zappos!!!

These boots are a well made classic and fit beautifully. I bought my normal 6.5 and my heel slipped so I bought the size 6 and wore them around the house only to find I love them without socks! Because they are all leather made, my feet can breathe! I got so many compliments I ordered another pair and also a pair for my daughter! Zappos is amazing and so customer service responsive! Keep up the good work Zappos!

These boots are FAB!!! The leather is a beautiful rich brown. Such a classic style I will probably wear them forever. They do run 1/2 size large though. I ordered the size 9 at first and then had to return for the 8.5.

If you are considering buying these boots, hesitate no more! They are worth every single penny. In my opinion, these look like very expensive custom-made riding boots that can cost over twice the price of these Frye. They look gorgeous with skirts, pants, jeans, and even dresses! They are roomy enough at the top that you can tuck in a pair of jeans. The quality is superb and Iâ??m certain that they will last well over 10 years if I take good care of them. The style is timeless and Iâ??ve gotten numerous compliments whenever I wear them. They do run big - I usually wear a 6.5, but I purchased a 6 and found them still large in the heel; I added a heel support orthotic to prevent my heel from moving around within the boot when Iâ??m wearing tights.

I first purchased the Frye Dorado Riding Boots in spice. When they arrived and I put them on my feet, I knew I was going to buy another pair. So, I ordered a pair in burgundy. When Iâ??m out anywhere, people are either complimenting the boots or theyâ??re staring at them. Having worked with leather and have made shoes and garments, I know good leather when I see and touch it. What I like about these boots is that they have a refined ruggedness both in appearance and in quality. Theyâ??re leather lined and very comfortable. If asked where I got them, I always refer them to Zappos.

I got this boot in the Spice leather and it is gorgeous, both in quality and color. After reading the other reviews stating the boot runs large, I ordered a size 8 (am usually an 8.5). The 8 was snug both in length and width-wise in the toe, but after taking them to get stretched, the fit is much better. I agree with the other reviewers that the heel slips, but with a boot this beautiful, that can be overlooked. Not the most comfortable of boots initially, but they are beautiful and hopefully theyâ??ll just improve with wear.

MAJOR DESIGN FLAW with this gorgeous boot. The buckle in the back left a huge gash across the opposite knee when I sat down and crossed my legs. Hated to return them because they are so beautiful.

I took the plunge and bought these for Christmas after staring at them just about every day for a month straight. Like many other reviewers, I did not want to shell out the money for them, but after trolling the internet and stores in my local mall, there was nothing that even sparked an interest close to what these boots did when I looked at them. I bought them in black, and I love them. They are the greatest shoe purchase I have ever made. I was also hesitant about the sizing. Iâ??m an 8.5 and thatâ??s what I ordered. They fit perfect with actually a little room to spare (I do wear thin socks with them though). I agree they are slippery the first couple of days, but seriously, you need to wear them in and then after that they are completely fine! I love these so much, Iâ??m hoping to buy the sand colored ones for next fall at some point this year. I have gotten so many compliments on them, and they are beautiful constructed. It is true that you get what you pay for. If you were like me and thinking that maybe a $300 pair would be just a good - maybe so, but I highly highly recommend just putting the extra money out for these boots. You wonâ??t be disappointed. They are not tight on the calves though which is fine for me. Iâ??m 5â??6â?? and a runner so I donâ??t have thick calves nor are they super skinny. If you have super skinny legs, these may be a bit too big, but Iâ??m average/slim and these are fine!
