I tried them on in the store and the 8.5 (my average size) fit me just fine. The store had run out of my size in brown so I ordered online. Between my boyfriend and I, we could not get the left boot on my foot. Tried everything, short of breaking all the bones in my foot and shoving the boots on before the swelling kicked in. After a quick and easy return, I got the half size up. Now, the left fits fine but the heel of the right slips. I put extra soles in and still, with the slippage, my gait looks like Judd Nelson from the Breakfast Club. So, now I wear an ankle sock under my longer sock on my right foot. If I could do it again, I'd have taken the original 8.5's to a cobbler/shoe repair person and have them stretch the boot shaft a little until my left foot could slip in comfortably. But I'm lazy + impatient and didn't want to return the 9's for the 8.5's again. Now for what you really want to know: Yes, the boots are sexy without being delicate, sort of in a 'hurry up and kiss me before I kick your butt' kind of way. I like the foot portion better than the Frye Slouch. The comparable Slouch looked prim in person. I get compliments on them all the time. And yes, when you can finally get the fit worked out, they are super comfortable.

I love these boots even though they are still a bit hard to get on and off after wearing them many times over the last month. It is definitely getting easier though. I wear an 8 and ordered an 8 after reading the reviews. The length and width is perfect. My foot is medium width and my arches are average. The boot fits great once it is on but it is tight over the instep when you are putting your foot in and then loose in the instep when you have it on all the way. The instep straps work well to snug them up. I have been wearing medium weight socks. My calves are average size and I have plenty of room to tuck my skinny jeans in the boots. If you wear them under jeans or with a skirt, the leather is smooth and won't rub your calves raw. The leather is a little stiff around the ankles at first but breaks in nicely after about a week's worth of wearings. I would suggest wearing them for short periods when you won't be walking a lot for the first week or so to avoid blisters. I didn't get any blisters but I could tell that I might if I didn't break them in first. I get lots of compliments on them from both men and women. I got the Gaucho color and it goes with everything. I love the grippy soles for motorcycle riding. They are not bulky at all and have a feminine fit. This is a great looking comfortable boot that is made to last and is well worth the investment. You just need to have a little patience with them at first.

AMAZING!!! Go with the reviews if you don’t trust your own judgment. These boots are beyond words. While a little steep in price, you will NOT be sorry. Much like everyone else- I waited, checking online daily to make sure they still had my size available and then broke down and spent the $$$. Should have done it soo much sooner. Quality, style, these will be your go to boots for everything. Got a 5.5 since they don't have a 5 and based on reviews...they are right on. 5 would have been too small. Go for it ladies-you won’t be sorry. INDULGE!!!!

I obsessed over these online for months before deciding to buy, definitely worth it. I usually wear an 8 1/2, and ordered a 9, which was the right size. Very comfortable from the beginning even though the leather is very thick and stiff. My only complaint is that the right boot is too tight across the top, but I'm assuming that will go away in time. I have never gotten so many compliments from people on an article of clothing! Other girls love them, lots of looks and comments from guys, too. I love wearing them with leggings and miniskirts- hello rocker sexy!

My first Fryes! Based on other reviews, I thought the size 10s might be too small (I have long, narrow feet and sometimes have trouble with 10Bs). But they were perfect-- if anything, a little roomy. They've barely needed any breaking in, and they look and feel great. In general, I prefer boots that nip in more at the ankle, but these have a blockier style, which is fine. Here's hoping they last a while!

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I ordered both the 7 and the 7.5. I felt sure that the 7 would fit as I have a pair of campus boots in a size 7 that fit perfectly. The other reviewers were right on! The size 7.5 was a necessity as the 7s would have been boot hell. WAY too tiny across the instep. Pretty stiff leather and will require some breaking in, but otherwise, superb. After they are broken in, they will be quite comfortable, I am sure. Just the right amount of punk rock.

Boot soulmate! I had my eyes on these for sometime before I decided to swallow the price tag... it was worth it! Extraordinarily well made, edgy yet cute, and versatile! I love the heel height, the adjustable buckles, and the cushy sole. They have amazing traction on icy walkways and I must get at least three complements every time I wear them! Sizing: I wear a size 8 shoe (seldom a 7.5) and ordered size 8. They fit like a glove! Right now they are too tight to wear with bulky socks but once they are broken in a bit more I think they'll be able to accommodate a thicker sock. Buy them! You won't be sorry.

Go Everywhere/Look Good with Everything Boot - I love these boots. True to name and reputation, Fryes are well made and well worth the money. I did end up ordering a half-size larger in the Engineer style so that I could get my foot in comfortably. Even on the first full day of wearing, these boots were very comfortable. They even had traction in the snow due to their rugged soles. They look great with legging, tights, dresses, and skirts and can be dressed up or down. The dark brown is passable with black outfits. I highly recommend these as all-around great boots!

Beautiful Fryes - I ordered this boot for my daughter...it fit right on (although she doesn't have an especially wide foot or high instep); however, she is reeling from blisters on her heels now and is in recovery mode. It’s been two weeks and she still cannot wear the boots...it takes time and dedication, but it's definitely one of the cutest boots I have ever seen. I knew it would be. I have had the 12R version for about 15 years now and love them...had them resoled only once in that time and I wear them to death. I will be ordering the taller one just as soon as I get some more money! Enjoy.

Frye Engineer boot - These boots are GREAT!! Bought ‘em for my girlfriend for Christmas, and she LOVES ‘em. Found the fit true to size, quality top notch, and honestly, I have never had a pair of boots that were made of this thick of leather, and I been ridin’ for over 30 years! Ordered at 9:00 pm, and they were on my porch by 11:00 the next day.... Now THAT's fast!!

Love Frye! This is my first pair of Frye boots. I first ordered the Veronica Slouch in an 8, but returned it because it was too small and the leather looked like it was stretching weird when you wore it up without slouching it. I was going to look at another brand, but decided to give the Engineer 15R a try. I thought it would be too masculine compared to the Veronica slouch, but it turned out so much cuter in person! I got them in a 9 and they fit perfectly (I usually wear an 8-8.5). They also have a bit more arch support than the Veronica. I'm so glad I got these boots and you will be too!

Great boots. I read the reviews and talked to the Frye company about how they fit. I wear 7 in sandals and heels. I ordered an 8 and they fit great. I recommend getting a long plastic shoe horn and trying them on with thin socks or pantyhose at first or you'll get discouraged. After a few times they'll stretch out and you'll be able to slide them on with no trouble. A classic and very well made. I can tell I'll get years of wear out of them and they never go out of style. A great investment!

A Wardrobe Must! You HAVE to own these boots! I've had them for going on a month now and have worn them just about every day. They look good with most everything - jeans, skirts, leggings, etc. The ONLY drawback to these boots is that it's going to take you a good while to break them in. Your heels will likely blister, but once you've broken them in, they are so comfortable and look amazing!

My Favorite Boots! Excellent fit - would recommend going down 1/2 size. That works great for me. Look great with dresses and jeans. Great in light slush and snow, too. Recommend highly!

NYC trekking boots - I was looking for an everyday work boot that looked good with skirts and pants; the Engineer serves this purpose well. They look great with black leggings and tunic sweaters or short skirts. The Engineer provides a rugged alternative to "ladylike" heeled boots. I am also very ready for rainy days, snow and New York's slushy winter streets.

AMAZING - These boots are awesome, they are even better in person. They were a little uncomfortable for one day, then they softened and I love them! So so sooo happy that I spent the money. All I would say is that I usually wear a 6.5, so I ordered a 6.5 and 7 and ended up with the 7. I think the 6.5 would have worked; I just wanted them a little looser.

Thank you Zappos! Wow - Zappos is amazing. I ordered these boots on Monday and got them the very next day! Talk about your FAST delivery service! Won't shop anywhere else now. Love Zappos and love these boots. They're so comfy, cozy, and stylish! In Winter, it's cold and snowy in Bend. These boots will keep my feet dry and toasty! I'm so happy I found a replacement for my leather Uggs! I highly recommend purchasing these boots (I'm a size 6, but I got a 6.5 after reading the reviews, and it worked out great.) I agree with everyone else, they're worth the price tag! BUY THESE BOOTS NOW....TRULY, YOU WON'T BE SORRY! (you can thank me later, tee hee)

Cute Boots! I love these boots! Pros: beautiful thick & sturdy leather, sturdy sole, adjustable buckles, well made in the USA, fun with skirts and jeans, warm, receive many compliments. I believe these will last a very long time! Cons: the thick leather makes them stiff and difficult to put on although they loosen up after wearing, they are a bit heavy. I intentionally waited after a couple weeks of wearing to comment on the comfort. They are great, but slip a bit on the heel, even with the bottom buckle tightened. I might have done better with a half size smaller, but I think they will be fine with inserts. I just ordered another pair of Fryes today! Zappos customer service? THE BEST EVER!

Love these - These boots look great with everything - especially skirts and dresses. They are pretty comfortable...a little snug in the insole perhaps (depending on the thickness of the sock), and a little stiff initially, but I anticipate that they will only get softer and more comfortable with time. I get compliments on them all the time.

Great boots - I'm a size five and got a half size bigger. With thick socks and skinny jeans they fit perfectly. Like any shoe they had to be broken in. Now I wear them all the time. The adjustable buckles really help keep them on my feet too.
