WW977 is an excellent fit and comfortable shoe. I have a narrow foot with tibial tendinitis due to collapsing arches. I normally wear a size 10 in New Balance, but did have to return for a 10.5 AA. Zappos, as usual, is fast and efficient with super easy returns.

These boots were great for hiking in the Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce Canyon National Parks. A week before our trip I broke one of my toes. Amazingly, I had minimal discomfort in the toe while hiking which I can attribute to this boot. The ankle support was exactly what was required for hiking on limestone trails in Bryce Canyon. My suggestion for sizing is to increase by a 1/2 size from what your normal New Balance size would be. Also, increase width up one size if you have any bunions or extra wide feet. I normally wear 7.5 B in New Balance, but I needed size 8 D in these (I do have bunions). Another suggestion, order 2 or 3 different sizes at once to assure you get the correct one. Then, you can send back the others free of charge and very easily. Zappos rocks with their return policy!

This shoe fits perfectly out of the box. I am a 7EE. Needless to say it is hard to find shoes, boots or sandals that fit. These do. New Balance products run wide so I use their products a lot. The great thing about Zappos is they carried the extra wide boots. I shop at the New Balance store in my city. Zappos is easier to get to. The service is great. They also had a larger selection of the extra wide shoes.

New Balance walking boots have really made a difference in my being able to hike with friends and have fun while taking part in a variety of activities in all terrain and climate conditions. Prior to finding the New Balance WW977 I had to sit a lot of hiking activities out. I usually wear a 12 or 12 1/2 in other brands, but found the woman's 13 to be the right fit with a pair of thick socks. This was a great find.

I love the boots. I have narrow feet and the heels fit perfectly. They are a bit roomier in the toes which is nice. I wear thick socks with them. They needed no break in. The water proofing is great. I highly recommend them.

Inconsistent Sizing between Colors - I ordered a pair of these hiking shoes last year in an 8 D width in the two-tone "Walnut Brown" color. That pair fit great with no break-in time. I decided that since I wear them so much I needed to order another pair to replace them. I was disappointed that Zappos didn't have the same color, but I love the comfort & fit so much that I choose the Brown GTX and ordered the same size. To my surprise, the new ones are at least a half size smaller. Very confusing how a well-known company like New Balance could have inconsistency between the same style shoe with the only difference being the color. As always, Zappos offers such great customer service that I know when I order from them that making a return is quick & easy. The only hassle with returning items to Zappos is finding time to take the shoes to the Post Office to mail them.

These hiking boots are very comfortable as is usually the case with New Balance. Be sure to upsize at least a half a size, and increase the width one size. My husband bought the same boots at D width and has plenty of room. The women\'s width size seems narrow and the length short. I had to return the size 8 1/2 D width for size 9 in EE width. Zappo\'s was great as usual in making the change.

Problem feet? Problem solved. Problems I have tiny pinky toes, narrow heels, wide at ball of foot, and arthritis in one toe. This shoe met all of my requirements, but not without more than one try. Zappos saved the day by shipping overnight the right ones in time for my vacation. All customers looking for hiking boots should remember that heavy socks usually require an increase in width. I wore these shoes my entire vacation and was really comfortable. No breaking in required.

I have small (5.5) wide feet (EE) and it's nearly impossible to find hiking shoes that have enough room for my toes while wearing 2 pairs of socks; usually my feet suffer terribly. These fit the bill very nicely. On advice from others, I went up a size (6 EE), but I think I would have been okay with 5.5. I didn't even bother with the insoles that came with them, instead putting in a pair of SuperFeet.

Runs small, not comfortable - The shoe runs a half size small and width at EE wasn't wide enough. I usually do fine with EE, but not these. Very stiff in the back & sides.

These shoes outperformed my expectations. I bought them for our trip to South America. We hiked the Galapagos Islands, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, etc. They provided all the support I needed and were very comfortable while hiking. I even waded through a stream without my feet getting wet. My only problem was that I have arthritis in my feet, so level street walking was not as comfortable as I would have liked. I would recommend these shoes for hiking and would buy them again.

If you have a problem with your feet pronating, you will love this shoe! It helped my foot heal from an injury in just a week. It is so comfortable and supportive. I listened to all the reviewers, thank you, who said to order one size larger as well as wider. That worked perfectly. Plus they're Gore-Tex so I can wear them in the rain. Zappos got them to me overnight with their regular free shipping. Thank you Zappos!

I wore these in the house for several hours debating about whether to keep them and kind of wish I had decided to send them back--too late now. They are fairly comfortable, but my feet get sweaty in them and that is unusual for me. They don't breathe well. I'm sure I'll wear them out--have been wearing them quite a bit, but wouldn't buy another pair--not good enough to be worth the price. They do run a little short. I wear 8.5 and after reading reviews bought a 9. This was the right size. Narrow size fits like it should.

I am very happy and pleased with these pair of shoes. I have plantar fasciitis, heel spur, neuroma, and very weak ankle, but these shoes are the best for all of the above. Protects my ankle, helps my heel for the whole day, and do not have to change my shoes for my hiking trips or even for walking on the curved fields. I can say I am in love with these shoes. Thanks Zappos.

Happy Feet - I tried a number of shoes in an attempt to find something that fit well and was both comfortable and attractive. I started out a 1/2 size larger, but I had to go up a full size and width to get the perfect fit, but it worked. This one surpasses all expectations. Well done!

Great looking boot but rubbed on my right little toe - These boots look really great, accommodate my custom orthotic, and felt great walking around the house when I tried them on. However, when I walked in them on my trip to Germany, I got a pressure blister on my right little toe on the very first day. They didn't feel too narrow, so maybe it's just an issue with their construction at that one point (I had no problems whatsoever on the left foot). I plan to take them to a cobbler to see if it can be stretched and hope that solves the problem. If I hadn't gotten the blister, I would have given them a 5-star rating.

Nice shoe - I was looking for a shoe to take on a trip to England so waterproofing and comfort are essential. Initially, I found the high collar quite uncomfortable. I wore them with lambswool in my socks and after a few days where they have broken in nicely and I don't need any extra padding. I haven't been to England yet and haven't worn them in a really hard rain, but they are certainly comfortable for a full day of errands. I always wear a half-size larger in New Balance and I appreciate that they come in wider widths. You really need to try them on because different styles in the same size/width fit very differently.

Finally found a hiking shoe... Very happy with all aspects of this shoe. Appreciate all the choices NB offers in terms of fit. Have very hard to fit feet because of bunions--wide forefoot and narrow heel. Had tried on 30 different shoes I thought would fit before this. Also is a nice looking hiking shoe--Doesn't look like an "orthopedic" shoe. Wish it was also waterproof, but not complaining!

Ouch! I ordered this is a 6.5 and 7. WW...I usually wear 6W but wanted it larger for hiking socks...OMG! They hurt like heck with one regular sock...probably okay for normal width feet but not mine...too bad cuz they are cute and waterproof.
