First time buying a pair of boots. Read some really great reviews about Frye and decided to go with this one. Really great boot. Fits perfectly and has a sturdy construction. Very happy with this purchase.

Great boot ... At this price, this is not a cheap boot. However, the build quality and workmanship are excellent and the overall fit, finish and general look is great. If you like the idea of a western styled boot without all that pointy-toed stichiness of a classic western boot, these are for you. Zappos weren't quite the cheapest for the boot itself, but by the time you factor in their free shipping AND free returns, Zappos is the place to buy shoes online. Let's face it, if they don't fit you can send them back, for FREE.

These boots are flawless. I also own a pair of 2010 12L harness boots, and I had a lot of problems with the harnesses stretching and sagging after only a day or two. I almost sliced the harnesses off, but Frye made good on their warranty, and their customer service department is to be highly commended. These Cavalry boots have the same awesome look, but without the harnesses, and I can buy my own decorative boot harnesses which are available everywhere. I almost bought the less expensive belted harness boots, but figured the simpler, the better. These boots also differ from harness boots in that they have a leather sole, have much more arch support, and the leather feels much softer. The product quality of the Cavalry boots is perfect whereas my harness boots last year came with scrapes, cuts and flaws, which looked like manufacturing defects rather than wear and tear from people trying them on. Also, the harness boots looked like the left and right ones were made in different countries, whereas the Cavalries are a perfect match. It's possible that Frye has improved their quality control in the year since I bought the harness boots. With some shoes I have to go to an E width, but these Frye D's are a perfect fit (depending on socks I suppose), perhaps because of the wide snub toe. Also, years ago my American-made shoes were always size 9.5, but with the advent of imported shoes, I usually now wear a 10. These Fryes (both the harness and Cavalry) are a perfect fit at 9.5, so keep that in mind when you pick a size. Kudos to Zappos for free shipping, fast service, and worry-free shopping.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Wonderful boot, great shopping experience! Just received my Frye Cavalry style boots. I had Frye boots years ago in college (early seventies). Best boots I ever owned. I love the square toe, but I do not like a motorcycle boot. Cowboy boots, with the pointed toe and the fancy stitching, look too fancy (really, did actual cowboys really wear such a "dandy" looking shoe?). This is just what I was looking for: a traditional boot with a square toe and no frilly decoration! Zappos.com is the place to order! I placed my order on Thursday and received the boots the following Monday, and no shipping charges! Wonderful boot, great shopping experience!

These boots are just great. They are super comfortable right away, and the fit is perfect. This is my third pair of Frye boots and I cannot say enough good things about them. The look is great, too. They are similar to the harness boots but with leather soles and the heel is a little higher.

I've been walking around in these boots for a week or so, and they've been great. With a gel insole, they're very comfortable and fit well (although without the extra insole, they're actually a bit loose for the size). They look really good - I've been getting a lot of compliments. The heel is a bit higher than I'm used to, which takes some getting used to but also makes me a bit taller, which is nice. The leather sole in the front doesn't get tremendous traction, so these aren't your boots if you want to do anything athletic or requiring great grace and balance. Otherwise, they rock.

The boots are excellent. They are great quality and look great. Since I haven't worn boots for a long time, it did take a little bit of getting used to. Also, I added some gel inserts for comfort. Now that I am accustomed to them (wearing them daily), they feel great. I received the boots very well packaged, and in only 3 days. Based on other reviews, I ordered them a size larger than I typically wear, and the larger size fits well.

This is my second pair of Frye boots from Zappos. The first pair (Campus) were returned for a defect, but the replacement pair were perfect. The most recent pair, Frye Cavalry, are the best boot I have owned. Customer service and delivery are top-notch. I always think of Zappos first.

Beautiful boot. I am surprised, however, that they are too small. I have another two pairs of Frye in size 13 that fit perfectly. These were too small even barefoot in the boot. Wear size 12? These boots are for you!

Very pleased with this boot. I had originally ordered a 9, but it was too small for my wide foot. The 10 fits beautifully and the boot appears to be of a very good quality. Ordering through Zappos has been a most pleasant experience and I would happily do it again.

Very handsome boot, perfect cross between western, urban, and work boot. I needed a good 2 weeks to break them, and they probably won't be perfect for another month or so. Plan on using a boot horn; I still have a hard time getting my foot into the boot! (Once it's in, though, it feels good.) Top of the line quality and look, but one other thing to consider is the height of the heel. If you're not used to cowboy boots (like me), it's a big adjustment. Regarding size, I wear a 9 1/2, but that felt too loose in this boot. The 9 fits my foot better, although the smaller size might be why it's so hard for me to get my foot in at first.

I couldn't get the 8 & 1/2 size, so I went with a 9. Even with heavy socks and pads, it still feels a little loose. I'm going to try for an 8 & 1/2. It's a great boot! And, I love Zappos!

The boots I ordered from Zappos were delivered super quick. Very happy with the product and the service. Will most likely order from Zappos again. I would recommend that you order Frye boots in your correct size. Not a half size smaller as I have seen suggested elsewhere.

This is a great boot. I'm used to wearing dress shoes and running shoes, so the heel felt a little high, but I got used to it in a day or so. They look great with jeans. And they are made in the USA! For me that makes them well worth the price.

Really nice boot. A different style than your typical strappy \'biker\' boot. Excellent quality, these look bitchin\' and after one weekend of riding and camping they looked even better. Nice boots that have a great finish to them, they look broken in already.

The boots need some wearing in, I expected that to be the case. There are instructions all over the internet but not on Frye's site. Only one real tiny little problem, the boots are not that similar, the left is definitely different. I know that one cannot guarantee conformity, but a little more for a boot this price would have been nice. As far as the ordering was concerned. A seamless and easy ordering experience. Zappos upgraded my shipping to next day, a pleasant surprise.

Excellent boot, very comfortable. It runs a bit big, not sure a full half size but I wear thick socks and ordered my usual size 11; seems to work well. Well made and comfortable even for extended walking as long as you like a good sized heel, which is definitely taller on this boot than most other boots I've worn. I've got the brown, which goes great with jeans. Will order the same in black.
