No lost toenails with this gem! I've been running trails way before Nike made a shoe for it so I've made my way through some shoes. This is by far one of the best all around trail shoes out there. I had grown accustomed to stiff outsoles and basic support, when I tried these in the store I thought 'No WAY these will hold up, they are too 'squishy'!' Wow was I wrong. I've now logged over 100 miles in these and not only are they holding up, my heel pain has decreased and my toenails are not bruised for the first time in several years! The lacing system takes a while to get used to...trust me, start out tight; it will distribute about a half mile in. The beauty of it is that even on the rocky/steep downhill bombs my toes barely brushed the front of this shoe (true to size too). Other pluses - they drain fairly well (could be a little better) and the lateral stability is impressive considering the 'lose' feel. Did I mention the cushioning? I've added speed and miles with these babies and none the worse for wear. Get them! You won't be disappointed. By the way, I have a neutral to slightly underpronating foot with a narrow heel and forefoot and wider midfoot. Happy trails!

Salomon’s are changing for the worse - I have lived in Salomon XA Comps for the last 5 years. I have worn them for everything: work, play, travel... They were the perfect all-around shoe. Now the new XA Comps are hard and wider in the heel and instep - not good for me. So I changed to the XA Pro. Neither the Comps nor the Pros come in decent colors anymore. The deal breaker for both new styles is the new tongue; it's only lightly padded and where the new logo strip is sewn through there is no padding at all. If you like your shoes snug, you will feel the laces. Compared to the Comp, the Pro has much more stability and is stiffer as a result. The ankles are higher to add to stability. There is a lot more plastic so they are hotter. Lacing system is still awesome. Sole is not nearly as sticky as the Comp sole (I thought ContaGrip was ContaGrip?). On wet rock or walking into a store out of the rain, Pros are really slippery while the Comps are not. Salomon seems to be getting cheaper while raising prices. You might consider The North Face instead.

Love 'em - Once I got my right size I love 'em! They have great support and I love the no ties! Would definitely buy these on a regular basis for walking!

My new running shoe - I was pleasantly surprised to find that I did not have to order a larger size in these shoes, as I normally would with running shoes. They look great, are very comfortable, and are the only pair out of 4 "motion control" sneaks that I tried that truly made my foot assume a neutral position. They have slightly less padding than I am used to. Not a big deal, just something to accommodate to.

Disappointment with a Capital D - Unfortunately it took several wearings, several long walks, for the quirks of this shoe to reveal themselves and ruin the shoe for me. I had to order a half size larger than other shoes because of the upturned toe box. Initially, I liked the wide and upturned toe box, but after wearing the shoes on a five mile walk, I felt like I was going to trip over the toe. I felt clumsy and it reminded me of when I was six years old--many decades ago-- when our Keds had rubber toes. The shoe's arch feels like it's in the wrong place for my foot, making it uncomfortable. The shoe looks good and is probably well made, but I'm not happy with my choice. And it's too bad that it takes time and outside wearing to discover that a shoe isn't right.

Great Athletic Shoe - I love this shoe. It is so comfortable and looks great too. My feet never hurt in them. I wear them to the gym and walking up and down concrete sidewalks.

Does what it's designed to do & looks great (some colors) My last 4 pairs of running shoes were Salomons XA Pro 3D, they are the most comfortable shoe I've found. When I started running trails a few years ago I tried every shoe I could find to fit my average sized; width B & length 8.5 (for a USA Woman that is) feet, but to no avail. This shoe's arch support and forefoot area are just in the right place for me. When running down a long trail, the quick ease of tightening the laces to hold my foot back so my toes don't touch the toe box are wonderfully simple, or to loosen them is a breeze. The way you can tuck the laces in the pocket is clever, I even store the two keys for my jeep in there by sliding my key ring through the laces and tucking them in and out of the way in the pocket. The traction, and foot support on a slippery, rocky hill surprise me most of all. It flexes, and is firm when needed. Here in So Cal the heat is a factor, so with thin socks, this shoe keeps my feet from over heating. Stream crossings are no problem, the shoe dries fast. With so much breathability comes with dirty socks. My only suggestion on improvement is a little longer and more durable lace pocket, but that request stems from using the shoe a just little different than what it was designed for. Other than that, the shoe is great! I’d like to thank Zappos for the incredibly fast and friendly service. As for the questionnaire, about the length and width, I believe the shoe is designed to accommodate the foot on a trail situation, so for it to feel a little wider in the toe or a little longer doesn't make it for a sloppy ride. My feet stay secure.

Great shoes - I love these shoes, they feel great on my feet and it makes it hard to wear anything else. I already had some from a store purchase so I knew exactly what to order. Zappos had a better selection too.

Excellent shoe and great price - I LOVE this shoe, however, I am going to give them to a friend and order a half size smaller. I always order big because my feet are very wide, but this shoe is true to size and wide enough and snug enough and absolutely comfortable with great cushion. Also the lacing system is addictive. I will probably never buy a lace shoe again. Thank you Zappos!

Favorite shoe - I have found Salomon’s to have the best support out of any other running/walking shoe I have purchased. I have always been extremely pleased with the shoes performance, and I absolutely love the quick lacing system. Salomon's have been my #1 choice since the first pair I bought 5 years ago.

These are the ones! As soon as I eased my aching feet into these very cool kicks I knew my prayers had been answered. They mellowed out my whole body and changed up my mechanics. The support and stability surpasses any other shoe I have ever worn and the state of the art lacing gives the wearer a custom fit. And who else comes up with colors like "autobahn", and "tomcat"? These go both urban and terrain and are going on my feet whenever possible. Forget everything else in my closet!

Salomon's are terrific! I have had several pairs of Salomons which I use for hiking and walking. The general support feels really great to me and the arch support is far superior to other running/walking shoes that I have tried. I am a big fan! I just finished walking a marathon for breast cancer research in my Salomons and didn't get a single blister!

This shoe was very stable on the trails. Very comfortable but a bit wide for my forefoot, my foot slide around on the trails in the forefoot. A great looking shoe also. The lacing system seems very fragile I am interested to see how they hold up to rough trail running.

Great comfort and stability - I have bad knees and these shoes are extremely comfortable for walking/cross training. They are good looking and I love the laces "arrangement". They seem a little big, so when I order my next pair I will try to go 1/2 size down.

Great shoe - This is a great shoe- with quick tie laces, no chance of having to stop and tie your shoe. It is monsoon season, so I've been running through small streams and large puddles- and they dry very quickly. No rubbing or chafing. Great for on or off road. Could use a bit more cushioning, but overall a great shoe.

Perfection but the sole! Bought these shoes for light hiking. So far had them for a month while I’ve been in the Andes. Fit great, really comfortable, great lacing system... the shoes are like manner from heaven BUT for the sole. 1. Think I am used to a lot more cushioning from my Asics for running purposes... 2. The sole is very soft and not very well defined... from about two weeks of use on mixed terrain, rock, mud etc they’re already showing a LOT of wear... and the sole is not deep cut so at times I think after a month or two more they’ll be just about worn useless. A mate down here who does lots of competition says they’ll get about two competitions out of the shoes and then just chuck em for this reason.

Great shoe for stability - I have always had a problem with my ankles on lateral movements. This sneaker takes care of that problem. It is very comfortable and the lacing system doesn't cause loosening of the laces as you work out. I would recommend this shoe to anyone that has wide feet, pronation problems or someone that performs lots of lateral movements in their workout routine.

Just short of comfort - These not-unattractive shoes were almost okay, but they hurt across the top of the foot--mid-foot where the most prominent bone is--and it was hard to imagine they would improve after the break-in period.

They totally rock! These shoes are by far my favorite running shoes! I used to wear the Nike Pegasus editions until I was told by my doctor that I needed shoes with better stability; I was having horrible Shin Splints. No sooner did I purchase these shoes then my runs started being pain free. My run time and bike time have drastically improved as well. The shoes are so lightweight and comfortable! They offer all the right support in all the right places! Not to mention they are stylish and can be worn for running errands or walking about. I highly recommend this as well as any other Salomon product!

Great beginner’s running shoe - Super lightweight and comfortable; great support for my un-trained feet and they're super cool looking. High-arch is really comfortable and the width in the toe-bed is just right. Great shoe!
