Extremely comfortable! These are my first pair of dancing shoes and I decided to go with the smaller heel because I'm already 5'11". They are the most comfortable pair of heels I've ever worn and allow me to move smoothly accross the dance floor. They were a little narrow, even though I ordered wides, but they seemed to stretch with use.

Brands I'd also recommend: Sketchers, though they do not make dance shoes, make very comfortable wide width shoes.

Sized too small. I ordered my street shoe size as directed, and I could barely get the shoe on my foot...these run way small!

Beginner Dancer in need Of Character Shoes! These shoes are just GREAT!. I've just started to learn swing and I needed character shoes for an upcoming performance and this definitely fitted my needs. This is a well-constructed and comfortable shoe. The leather is soft enough so it doesn't need to be broken in, and the arch support is great. The 1.5 inch heel is the right height since I don't usually wear heels and don't want to worry about balance issues or injury. In addition, it won't let me tower over my dance partner. Get this half a size smaller, and be aware it also feels a little narrow (but not uncomfortably so). However, since I am a student on a college budget, I might return these and find a cheaper pair elsewhere since I don't know if I'll be needing character shoes after the performance (or I might keep it just to go out). But if you have the money or plan on walking or dancing a lot in this shoe, it's way more than worth it. Thank you so much Zappos for the speedy service and putting up with my returns!

Brands I'd also recommend: Capezio, Sansha, Merrell, Hush Puppies (not dance brand but very comfy)

Great shoes - I am really enjoying these shoes. We bought them for ballroom dancing lessons and they are working out very well - they move great on the floor and are pretty comfortable to be in them for a couple of hours.

Sizing info - I typically wear an 8N street shoe. I ordered an 81/2N and it was too short in length. I would say order a whole size bigger than your normal street shoe.

Salvatore Capezio was born in 1871 in Muro Lucano, Italy. Uninterested in following in his father’s footsteps as a construction engineer, he became an artist of his own right, a cobbler. In 1887, at the age of 17, he opened his shop on Broadway and 39th Street, diagonally across from the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Soon, the shop became a meeting place for dancers who would stop by to discuss their needs and to get a pair of his shoes. As Capezio’s popularity grew, dancers from around the world made it a point to visit him and purchase his shoes.

The innovation of the products that Salvatore Capezio created and the camaraderie he shared with the dancers molded the direction that his company would follow. In this image, the Capezio brand was established to promote and recognize ongoing achievements and participation in dance.

I bought these for some dance classes I'm taking. You can't beat the price. One word of warning, these shoes run small. I had to order a full size up to get the right fit.

Very cute and pretty comfortable. I'm not a dancer, I just adore the retro-like look of these shoes - there could be a bit more padding on the inside, but that's a minor complaint. I tend to be very picky about heels but these are actually very comfy.

Great dance shoe - Over all these are very comfortable especially if you add a cushion insole. They are perfect for anyone needing a low heel. These run small so order a 1/2 size bigger than your athletic shoe size.

Great support for dancing - This is a great show for dancing. It gives a great deal of support. I found that I had to order a full size larger than the street size I wear. I usually wear a 9 1/2 narrow and ended up with a 10 1/2 Med width. I had to order three different sizes before I got one I could wear. Zappos was great however and shipped all very quickly and handled the returns efficiently.

Brands I'd also recommend: the capezio T strap

Lovely shoe but doesn't fit- The shoe's look is great but it feels at least a full size smaller than my size 10 B feet. I am generally easy to fit but I have noticed a great deal of latitude in shoe sizes in the current market. I'll try a larger size.

Brands I'd also recommend: Soft spots with ankle strap, naturalizer

I was looking for a comfortable street shoe that would stay on, since I now need a wider toe but not heel. I remembered purchasing a similar Capezio shoe 50 years ago at a Capezio store in San Francisco. Sure enough, it is still available! I really appreciated the prompt service, and the ease of returning the first pair I ordered. I went on line to check if it had been sent, and discovered that it was to be delivered that day. It was on my front porch when I went out to check! What service!

2" heel - I ordered mine in a size 11 (I normally wear 10) and the fit was good, but I measured the heel and it was slightly over 2". I bought this shoe thinking that it would be 1 1/2", since I have problems with my feet and I can't go too high. I love the leather. It is comfortable inside.

Leather dance shoes- This is the classic character shoe, well made and designed but fits better for a narrow foot. They also have very stiff soles as they are meant to be used for tap shoes as well. The ones I had been wearing for dance and vocal performance were about ten years old and really worn out and soft so these feel extra stiff by comparison. The only problem is that they tend to run narrow and short. My foot is wider in the toes but narrower in the heel. The 7 W is too short although good in the toes, the 7 1/2 W is too loose in the heel, and 8 M is too long. I bought a 7 1/2 M and I have been wearing them around the house but they still feel a little narrow in the toes, so I don't know if I will keep them or not. If you have a narrow foot they are excellent, the best one of all the character shoes out there. They definitely run smaller and narrower than the usual street shoe so order at least a half size larger. If they fit you right, they are an excellent shoe for social dancing, stage work, and tap and show dancing.

Comfortable Right Out of the Box! I read the reviews and ordered one full size larger...sure enough, these customers were spot-on! Thanks for offering the opportunity to review. I didn't waste time with a return/re-order. I am not a dancer, but I do perform. I need shoes for rehearsal and these are, by far, the best shoes I've owned. They are comfortable for those long rehearsals when the director just so happens to want that one scene (the one where you really do have a dance routine) rehearsed for the 27th time! Standing, singing, walking, dancing, these are wonderful! I've never been aware of these shoes...a great sign in how comfortable the shoe really is!

Capezio's Leather Light Jr. Footlight - My only wish is that you would make sizes 4 & 1/2 and 5 in widths wider than a B (medium). Other than that, the shoes are well made and the 4 & 1/2, which is hard to get, seemed true to size. I took them to a shoemaker to stretch the width but they are still too tight. Please consider making these smaller sizes in wider widths for those of us with short but wider feet. Thank you.

Kismet - I had to stop wearing ballet shoes for belly dancing because of arch problems. These shoes are great! I bought the tan color and they blend away. The only problem was the leather on the bottom of the heel is attached with a large, single nail. That made it dangerous to wear on a vinyl or wooden dance surface. The shoe repair man fixed that easily with tan rubber. They are comfortable, pretty, and the heel is the right height for high arches and plantar fasciitis problems. I have "chubby toes" so I bought a nine wide instead of my usual 8 medium. They have great padding inside also. Buy these shoes!

Stable dance shoe - I have worn this style from Capezio for many, many years, so there were no surprises. I usually wear a medium width, but I need a wide in this style. This is a good shoe for the dancing I do: Hungarian, Scandinavian, and Contra. All three of these dance styles involve lots of turning; Scandinavian and Contra on the ball of the foot, and Hungarian on the heel. I need a very stable shoe with a reasonably low, square heel. Capezio’s used to have a shoe like the Jr. Footlight, but with a one inch heel that was not tapered at all. That shoe was even better for me. Unfortunately, they appear to have discontinued it. This heel will do.
