Why'd they change the design? Have a pair of Clarion GTX - best boots by far I've ever had. Always fit - new and well-used - and broke in very quickly. Great ankle support, nice rigid sole for clambering over big rocks, etc. However... my pair has a Gore-Tex insert over the top of the toes, and a rubber shield over the end of the toe which really takes the abuse and doesn't get marked up. The new design has a solid leather toe and no rubber shield over the toe. The only bad thing was that they tend to get a little slippery on wet tree roots and rocks (as I found out in New Zealand) - I understand that has to do with the compound the sole is molded from. Has anyone had both pairs, and did you find the new ones less breathable and more prone to scuff damage on the toe? How about the compound on the tread - has that changed?

This is my second pair of this boot. When you find something that works great, you stick with it. After a lot of miles on the backpacking trail, my first pair was showing some cracks in the uppers. Probably from all the rainstorms and streams that they carried me through. The boot is so comfortable that you might even compare them to wearing a comfortable running shoe.

I bought these boots to replace a pair of Vasque Clarion boots purchased in 1999 that I had worn out. I was concerned that these would not be the same quality as the pair purchased in the last century. So far, I am loving these (the quality and comfort) as much as my old ones. They do take a little more break in others, but it is worth it. These are not pretty boots that only last a year. I took these on a vacation to British Columbia and they performed great during my hikes.

A great hiking boot for those of us with wide feet. The rubber around the toe box does not go up too high so the leather can stretch out if needed. This is rare in hiking boots.

This is my second pair. My old ones were the model from before. The new ones are just as comfortable and supportive, and a bit nicer looking, too!

I\'ve worn this boot on many hikes and climbs. Mine is the older Clarion circa 1997 and it\'s an excellent boot. It feels one with your foot, in the desert, in snow, in the mountains it\'s the boot I choose.

This is the second pair of these boots for me, I wore the first pair out over the years of trekking in all kinds of weather and terrain. I think the ones made in Italy were better than the ones now made in China as far as correct fit. Very waterproof, comfortable on these old feet, rugged, no break in required for mine, they do run a little large for me versus my first pair. I put an extra pair of inner soles in them and they are prefect now. Probably buy another pair when these wear out. Hope they keep on making them. Life is good.

I've worn Vasques for 25 years, but when it came time to replace my 10 year old Clarions I was a bit hesitant, knowing that there are some reviewers who are not happy with the new Clarion since its production was shifted to China. I've had mine for only a couple months, but so far I love them -- they are extremely comfortable, and no nasty break-in time needed -- exactly what you would expect from Vasque. We'll see how they hold up after a couple years, but I'm very happy so far.

My whole experience with Zappos from ordering to receiving my boots was excellent! I could not expect anything any better. The quality and fit of my Vasque Clarion GTX boots was excellent. They are everything I expected! I've worn Vasque boots for the past 20 plus years! They are nothing short of excellent! Again! If you are looking for a quality boot, you can't go wrong with Vasque!

I have worn Vasque boots for a lot of years and without a doubt these are the best of the lot. There is little or no break in period. Just buy your correct size and take off doing your own thing. I bought mine for pheasant hunting and they work great. Good job on the boots guys!

I purchased these boots based on familiarity with the brand, but not the specific model or size. I successfully summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro wearing them just two weeks after the purchase. Thank you Zappos.

delivery service from zappos, of course, terrific. These boots are the third from Vasque I buy in a row. They are almost exclusively what I wear troughout the week. I work on my feet all the time and these boots give me the support and protection I need while looking great with a variety of other clothes conbinations. I love them.

Just ordered my 5th pair of boots, I use them every day for work boots until the sole has no tread. The thing I do like about these boots is there is no break in period; just jump into them out of the box & 14 hours later you're not crying.

My husband buys this shoe in EE width and wears it every single day. Any other shoe and he has sore feet and back aches. He has had about ten pair so far over several years and is always satisfied. They are waterproof - he wears them in winter plowing snow even. Love this shoe! We only hope they do not discontinue it as it has been a great asset for him.

I bought several pairs of these boots over the years for my husband. He has two broken ankles and these are the only boots that are comfortable and give him enough support as well as being sturdy enough for all day wear (in construction). I just bought another 4 pair to stock up in case they stop manufacturing it. Highly recommended!

Just got my Rocket Dog Slope boots (in black) today... and I LOVE them! They are extremely comfy, allow room to tuck in jeans, and are super cute! I’d bought a pair of Rocket Dog boots second-hand (tan suede) and practically live in them... so I was excited to find the Slope style that is similar, in black. They seem pretty true to size and have the traditional wide toe box as most Rocket Dog footwear does. Zappos has the BEST customer service of any company I’ve done business with.

I wear these shoes everyday. I have flat feet and was looking for a hiking boot with good arch support. These feel great in that regard. I only wish they had the same padding around the collar as the Vasque Wasach.

Alaska tested - Very quick delivery. Right after they arrived, I used these on a local trail along a glacial moraine. Very rocky, muddy, uneven ground. The boots felt very comfortable with good support for my ankles and arches. Soles were thick enough where I didn't feel small rocks or pebbles as I stepped on them. Great boots!

Canyon Ranger - The best period. Have you ever been to Palo Duro Canyon State Park? It is some of the ruggedest land you can encounter. I wore these for 5 years as a ranger there and still wear them occasionally as a snow and slush boot. Have since bought another pair and if they keep making them, will buy them again. In the canyon it can get to 120 degrees in summer and down to 10 below in the winter and these things never failed me. If you get them and they don't fit quite right, I have been told that Zappos will zap you another pair ‘til they get it right.
