Okay, I have been wanting these boots for a while. They rock. Full grain leather and great craftmanship. Zappos was super quick. What a great company! I will continue to try Zappos first when I need new boots or shoes. Thank you!

ZAPPOS IS THE BEST! The quality of Frye boots can't be beat. I had some heel slip in these which is to be expected with most pull on boots. Easily remedied with some insoles. As always, Zappos is the best!

Great boot! These boots are well made and look great. They are a little larger than the shoe size would indicate, but nothing a thicker sock wouldn't compensate for. Very well made and sturdy.

Solid boot at a great price - I've had my Frye Engineer 8Rs for about one month. These are great looking boots that go between work and casual dress up with ease. The break-in period was fast, only a few wearings, and painless. I wear a Phase IV orthotic in all shoes, and it fits fine in my regular size 10. So I think those that recommend a half-size smaller boot than your regular shoe size. Mine without the orthodics seem a little large. I wish the opening in the shaft was cut a little narrower (more like a cowboy boot, but this is only a minor style issue for me. I would consider the taller Brando version of this boot as a compliment. I love Frye boots, and these are another quality product from the American boot maker. The Engineer 8R looks great and functions well. The sole is great on snow and ice, superior to any Dr. Marten shoe or boot I've ever worn. The Zappos customer service is cut above the rest, as always.

Fan of Frye - I am a huge fan of Frye shoes/boots, the material and quality is second to none. I applied one coat of mink oil as soon as I got the boots, they get a "richer" look every time I wear them.

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Great boots - Feel great after break-in. I've had mine for over 6 months and I wear them almost every day; they still look new. These boots are high quality, therefore I recommend them.

Exactly what I expected! I have this boot in a slightly different style. The heel is the same height but the cuff is higher. I love this shorter version. These boots are heavy and heavy, stiff and leathery. A good thick sock is the perfect companion. This will be my summer version. My Frye "flip-flop" if you will.

A Super Boot - The top could be an inch higher. Otherwise it is a great boot. It felt great from the first time I put it on and as it gets broken in it feels even better.

Super comfortable - These boots are REALLY comfortable. I wanted a pair of pull on boots that would be a little more durable than tennis shoes. I'm a carpenter, so the heel wouldn't work on a roof. But I wear them around the shop. What I didn't expect is how comfortable they are! You won't believe this, but they feel better than tennis shoes. I have narrow feet, and they fit like they were custom made for me. I LOVE THESE BOOTS.

Frye Engineer 8R Gaucho - Overall this is a solid boot, classic engineer. They look excellent and have a sturdy construction. They are comfortable enough to wear every day after a little breaking in. They are a little heavy but that is expected of a work style boot. The shaft is a little too large to fit slimmer jeans over compared to a zip up or a chelsea boot but that may or may not apply to you.

Cool boots - I tried a number of Fry boots on, and this it the pair that fits the best. I have a high instep, so I couldn't even get in the other ones. This one is better, and now it slips on easier. I am a lineman (power lines, not football) and the boots rugged style suits me great. The footbad is not very padded, but that doesn't bother me, it's fine with a thicker pair of socks. And my wife finds them "hot", so all the better.

Frye Engineer 8 R - Initial impression and first day's wear are positive. Fit is good - toe box is roomy. Leather is thick and on the stiff side - should soften with wear and conditioning. These are unlined, so expect your tube socks to come out of the boot slightly stained. Sole is stiff - comparable to a work boot. OK traction on snow and ice. Insole padding and support are good - better than most boots. Boots are surprisingly light. These look very rugged and stylish. Gaucho color is a deep brown with light/dark variation. I have to undo the buckle and strap to get the boots on. Not a big deal - some type of a hidden quick release combined with the buckle would be a cool improvement. They will get a treatment of Huberd's tonight. Bottom line so far - a very good boot.

Good looking pair of boots - These boots are beautiful. Unfortunately, I wasn't used to the hard sole - I felt like every step I took was giving me a concussion.

Anonymous from Cleveland - Very nice boots. Ordered them at 4:00 ET and received them the next morning. I'm between sizes and went for the smaller size; is recommended. Fit great (a little tight in the arch but mine are very high, I'm sure they will stretch to fit). Very happy with the boots and Zappos.

Cool Boot, Great Service - These are great looking, comfortable, American made boots with much better quality and fit than certain brands made elsewhere that I have tried. The "gaucho" color is a very dark brown. Do as others advise and order a half size down from your usual size. Mine felt comfortable right out of the box, which arrived on the doorstep just two days after my order thanks to a Surprise free delivery upgrade. Great experience all around.

Gift for my Husband - He loved these boots as soon as he opened the box. They are a little uncomfortable, but need to be worked in. Otherwise a great purchase. I have them so know that within weeks they were become a staple in his wardrobe.

Very cool pair of boots! I bought my first pair of these boots in black and loved them so much I ordered a 2nd pair in brown (Gaucho). They are comfortable, very hip, masculine, and someone always tells me how cool they are. They look especially good with jeans, but I've also worn them with army fatigues and cargo pants. Great boots.

I was very pleased with the purchase overall. I have a similar pair of another brand and I can really tell the difference between the two. These Frye boots definitely seem superior in many ways: fit, workmanship, comfort, and quality of leather. When it comes to boots like these, good-old American brand is the way to go. I recommend these boots 100-percent and Zappos, especially. Great service from Zappos.com and very professional when it came to price protection and fast delivery.
