SERIOUSLY ILL-CONCEIVED. This backpack is impossible.
GRANTED: The fabric is a gorgeous green, silky, very nice. The leather is a wonderful vicuna color and has a wonderful finish. The workmanship is great.
HOWEVER: The straps are not in the right place. The bag does not stay on, either with both straps in place, or with either over your shoulder like sling. It's floppy where it should be stiff; stiff where it should be flexible. The grommets are a great idea but don't quite work. The hardware is beautiful but in the wrong place. The bag sort of folds in half on itself so even though it looks great in the photos, when on your back, it's just a mess. There is no carry handle for when it's not on your back. The lining is dark; the way into the body of the bag is narrow where it needs to be wider; it's impossible to get things in or out of the bag, and it does not help that you cannot see into it. The drawstring (actually a wide band placed at the middle of the bag, not at the top) makes no sense. It's a great size (big!) but you can't get into the thing.
I spent ten minutes trying to figure out how to make it work and even constructed a light paperboard insert to hold the body and flaps of the bag where they should be. To no avail. I want my ten minutes back.
Alas, the bag it is simply not engineered or designed to be useable in any way, shape, or form. I cannot imagine for one minute that this was designed by anyone on Mr. Jacobs design team who has ANY experience with either fashion
backpacks or highly-functional technical
backpacks.
Sorry Zappos -- and sorry, Marc. This looks great but does not work at all. Really. At all.
