I bought these in the black with purple accents, very cute boot. I wear and 8.5 shoe, and ordered that size in these and they fit well with a normal weight sock. The quality is very nice, cozy, comfortable, and unlike most snow boots the shoe area is not over-sized. The side zipper is a really great feature of this lace up boot. If you want a boot to tuck your jeans into, or to wear with skirts, this boot is stylin' and practical for those snowy winter months. Feminine, with an edge. Oh, I got em in under 24 hours! Love Zappos.

These boots left a huge gash under each of my ankle bones from the spot where the rubber meets the leather upper. I wore them a total of 8 blocks and could not wait to take them off. They made my feet feel numb because they were so tight. I bought a size up and loosened the laces so they could barely tie in the front. Maybe this wouldn't happen if you had smaller calves. But I agree that these are not 17 inches. I gave 4 stars for style because they are really nice boots; the fur isn't cheap looking, and they have amazing tread on the bottom. But they were torture on my feet!

If you're a petite woman, these are the boots to get. I'm 5 feet tall, 98 pounds. I ordered a size 5, and the boots fit perfectly. I have narrow feet, and there's just enough room for my toes to wiggle in. I also have Sorel's Joan of Arctic size 5. My feet swim in those shoes. The black boots are verstile. I dress them up with leggings and a short skirt, or tuck my boots in them. I do recommend a sole-insert with arch support.

They are well made boots and I like them but I have to return them because they are to tight on my calves. Otherwise they offer arch support and are nice.

I bought these boots recently and will be returning them. I have a 16 inch calf, and there is no way these boots have a 17 inch circumference. They will zip up, but only if the boots are laced loosely enough so that snow will get in at the gaps where the boots lace up. They are cute, though.

These look great, but are crazy uncomfortable, and run small all around.

I'm very happy with the style and fit of this Merrill winter boot. It felt quite comfortable in the cold climate of a Colorado ski town. I wear them without socks because the fit is a bit tight and any sock would probably be pulled off or bunched up. They're plenty warm even barefoot, and they look great. I do agree with another reviewer who said they have an ankle problem - they rub against the bottoms of my inner ankles. But this isn't severe for me. I only notice it after walking quite a bit. The good looks, warmth, and waterproof qualities make it a fair trade-off.

This boot runs even smaller than other reviews indicate. I ordered 1/2 size up from my normal, and when I put them on they felt snug. When I took them off, my toes started tingling that's probably not a good sign. I would be concerned that going up a full size would cause the heel/ankle area to not fit correctly, so back they go. Also, the laces do not run easily through the loops, so once they are adjusted, you would want to keep them that way. Even with the zipper opening, they were hard to get off, which seems odd to me. On a positive note, they really are comfy, and the brown is not nearly as orange as the picture indicates (it's a great color). The faux fur collar is beautiful, and this is an all around good looking boot.

Great boot! Keeps me warm and dry without question. Nice snug fit so there is no need for thick winter socks. Sized just right. I love the zipper so there's no need to continuously mess with the laces unless you need to adjust them to tuck your pant legs inside or wear them outside. Mine have done me well trekking in a foot of snow enjoying the winter fresh air. I have a wider foot and this boot was not too tight.

I love these boots. They're adorable, warm and so far this winter have not failed me in snow or cold weather. Plus, I get lots of compliments on them.
