I compared this shoe against the
Salomon XA pro 3d ultra 2 gtx, the
Vasque velocity 2.0, and the invo8 345 gtx. The best by far were the
Montrail Mountain Masochist 2 Outdry and the
Salomon. The others were good shoes just not as impressively comfortable as the the
Montrail and the
Salomon. The
Salomon had a slightly higher arch but was a lot heavier and a lot less flexible and a lot less breathable. The
Montrail fit my foot like a glove, was very stretchy and comfortable, much like a sock, and was very breathable and drier in comparison. This actually made my feet feel warmer in the wet Cascade Mountains where I run, which in the fall is a good thing for me.
Arch support is spot on, and I have high arches. I love the pronation control of the new fluid post midsole. The shoe has mad grip on the trail and feels light and responsive. Compared to the others, this shoe allowed me to run faster and lighter on my feet. This shoe also did great on an 81 mile backpacking trip as a
hiking shoe with a 35lbs pack.
