Nice-looking, lightweight pack! The Refugio's size is "just right" for managing laptop, books, files and other essentials on trips & feels good balanced on your back instead of over-the-shoulder bags used in the past.

As always, Zappos' service and delivery is spectacular. The backpack is equally impressive. I had a North Face pack that just wasn't cutting it so I decided to try something else and this hit the spot. It looks great and has all the features and functions I love. It's the perfect size. Big enough to carry a decent load, but not too big to give you back problems. It fits ultra comfortable and it has solid construction. I'm happy with it. Highly recommended.

I love this backpack. A fellow grad student had one in the green and I was green with envy. I almost got the same color (my daughter told me we'd be "backpack buddies") but I went for the Rockwall color. Love it. It has 2 main zippered compartments; the smaller one has a whole side of pen pockets, a key hook, pockets for wallets, keys, or whatever else you may carry. The larger section has a padded sleeve for your laptop (or iPad, in my case) and small pocket at the front of the compartment. The front has a small compartment with a vertical zipper and a sleeve that sections off the bottom of that compartment. The two side pockets are handy for short umbrellas or water bottles or whatever. And my favorite compartment is has a small velour-lined zippered pocket at the top of the backpack for my phone or iPod or whatever needs a soft place to land. This bag lets me carry a lot of weight comfortably (books, iPad, lunch, water, wallet and other personal stuff) and I think it looks great doing it. The lack of a waist belt doesn't bother me (I don't usually use the chest thingie either).

I love this backpack, it holds my 17" laptop with room for other things. I received it in 1/2 of the estimated shipping time. I would highly recommend this backpack, especially if you have to carry a heavy load.

Great backpack! Great waterproof material, lots of pockets, and compartments. It fit my laptop, the extension cord, two small books, a notebook, a file folder; all the regular contents of my purse and it still had room for much more. The only problem was, I am 5'2 and this backpack is way too long on me. It was annoying to walk and hit the back of my legs with every step. So I gave it to my sister who is 5 9 and she loves it and she gave me her old Patagonia, which of course is a great brand to have.

About Patagonia
Patagonia's values reflect those of a business that started as a band of climbers and surfers who wanted to stay out as long as they can, doing what they love, no matter the weather. Patagonia's design approach to every product, from technical shells for snow and ice, to moisture-wicking underclothes, to everyday clothes, demonstrates a functional bias toward simplicity and utility. Quality is impeccable, and the guarantee lifelong.
Patagonia's love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of the planet. They use organic cotton; most polyester is recycled. They give moral support - and 1% of sales, $25 million to date - to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups in the U.S., Europe and Japan.

The Good: Very elegant, minimalist styling (I purchased the black/black combo). Lots of pockets for a variety of things, including a mesh water bottle pocket on each side, a zip-up flap on the front with a pocket inside, a larger pocket behind that with several slots for pens, calculators, cell phone, whatever. The main storage area has a laptop pocket, which accommodates up to 17" laptops. The lining is only nylon though, so perhaps consider getting a sleeve for additional protection. The main area also has a small divider flap at the bottom, for separating books or folders. Both the main and front pockets go all the way down to the base of the bag, so there's plenty of storage space. Also there is one small pocket on top of the bag, which is lined with some kind of fleece; clearly meant for an MP3 player or cell phone. Has a sternum cross-strap for additional security, the shoulder straps curve out and are cushioned, and the "back" of the bag is meshed to wick away sweat. The Bad: Not much, just a few things I wish it had. For one, the main compartment's zippers don't go all the way to the base of the bag, which does make it a little difficult to get things in or out. Also, wish the bottom was rubber-lined (Timbuk2 does this) for more grip. For this it gets 4/5 stars in style. The Bottom Line: Excellent, excellent bag. Durable materials, lots of space and compartmentalization, and very comfortable to carry even while full. I used my last backpack for nearly 8 years and I expect this one to last just as long.

Love the backpack. It has many compartments, including a felt lined pocket towards the top of the bag to fit a cell phone, iPod, ear phones, etc; anything small you want protected from scratching. It includes a safety whistle, which is an added bonus. Very comfy with the mesh/padded back, which is handy when you fill it to the max.

I'm an actor and therefore walk around with my life on my back. This impeccably designed bag manages to contain everything I need while putting minimum strain on my shoulders and back. Here's a list of everything I walk around with in this magical pack: Jazz shoes, Ballet shoes, Tap shoes, Tights and Other Dance Clothing, Two 1" Binders, Various Office Supplies (pen stapler scissors etc.), Hardback & Paperback Novel. Netbook with External Hard drive, Two x-mini speakers, Six Juggling Balls, Knee Pads, Combat Gloves, Jumprope, Ace Bandage, My Yoga Mat attaches snugly through the two loops at the bottom or along the side through the compression clip loops. The sleekness of the pack, even when crammed this full, is incredible. For the price, the sturdiness, the style and sleekness, , the sheer capacity, and of course the reliable & ethical brand name - you absolutely cannot beat it.

Love this backpack. It's lightweight and lots of pockets. I chose it because it was one of the few I could find with a water-resistant finish and I was expecting to be in a lot of rain. It's very roomy inside and I found it comfortable to wear, even fully packed. Good sized backpack for a average sized woman -- not too long. I loved the chamois-lined pocket at top for my i-phone and camera because they were always handy and protected! Wasn't crazy about the colors but my husband thought it was cute.

These are very comfortable, and not too big. I do not haul a whole lot in it but use it daily as my bag for work. It usually has a couple pairs of scrubs, some papers/books, and a ton of snacks. I can fit my large water bottle easily in a side pocket. I have not used the laptop section in the main compartment other than for books but appreciate having that option in there, and the structure of the back helps keep it very comfortable. I really like the size of the front two pockets, everything is very accessible, even when I have something shoved down to the very bottom. I would definitely purchase this bag again!

Bought this to be my work bag due to re-occurring neck/shoulder pain. It fits my MacBook Pro just fine in the padded pocket. It has lots of places to stash random things and I do like that the side pockets are big enough for my coffee mug. I suspect that I may look a little dorky in my pack, but my neck and shoulders no longer hurt, so I don't really care! As a side note, I am 5'11 and this fits my frame well. I think it would be a little large for women 5'7 and under. The top of the straps felt stiff at first, but broke in quickly. The only thing I would change is the pulls on the zippers - they are a little delicate/thin and sometimes hard to grasp.

Love it...the colors are really cute, tons of pockets, comfortable, holds lots of stuff. Two of my favorite features are the fleece-lined sunglasses pocket at the top and how deep the 2 water bottle pockets are. This is my 1st Patagonia product and thanks to this amazing backpack it won't be my last!

Are you kidding me? Sickest backpack ever! The pockets are sweet, the colors kick A, and there's a whistle on the sternum strap/buckle. Just think, if Leo had this backpack when he was on the Titanic, would he have drowned? No way!

Awesome backpack! I bought it for returning to grad school. I needed something with a laptop sleeve, but also wanted something that would be functional beyond school for day hikes or other small adventures. This fit the bill perfectly. I'm glad I went with the 28L instead of the smaller one. It isn't bulky at all, but has plenty of room for everything. I can tell it's made really well, and can't wait to get some use out of it. Love the forge grey color too!
