Patagonia products are always well-made and long lasting. I liked this jacket for my son because it was so light weight - he hates to wear heavy winter clothing. It hasn't gotten freezing yet, so i can't say how warm it is, but it fits well and you can wear another layer underneath. He likes the color and loves how light it feels.
Brands I'd also recommend: north face

Aside from being a wonderfully thin and warm jacket that my son wears almost every day, Patagonia's lifetime service guarantee is incredible. They're opposed to waste, so if it wears out, rips, tears, or gets shredded by angry squirrels - just send it in and they'll repair or replace it, no questions asked, no receipt required.

Great jacket! Warm yet lightweight. Easily folds up so my 6 yr old can put in his backpack at school. This jacket is not as heavy and overwhelming as North Face jacket. Only 4 starts b/c I wish it came with a hood but it fits great and both my boys love them!

My son loves this jacket. We tried several other jackets and everything was too bulky and/or stiff. This jacket is comfortable, soft, lightweight, and warm. It's pricey, but for the most part worth it.
