I ordered this bag for my son for graduate school. He loves it. Says it has plenty of room for all his things. Seems very well made and looks good.

Absolutely a perfect bag for business and casual. I have several other messenger bags. They are either too large or too small. Too few or too many pockets. This is a great design, cool weather friendly bag that holds everything a warrior tech needs. And Zappos got it here on time and for the best price.

This is my go-to travel bag. It holds a ton, so it's a great carry-on option, and the padded strap makes it comfortable even when carrying a heavy load. It's sturdy and well made and the look transitions easily from business to sporty depending on your outfit.

I really wanted to like this bag. It comes in such cute colors. However, this bag is gigantic. I got it thinking "This will be great to carry books and my netbook around campus!" Turns out this thing is bigger than me! Definitely overkill for the average student. I probably won't be keeping it, but I just wanted to warn people. I think the measurements are a little off. The top width of the bag is 16" (not the height).

I researched many messenger bags but they all seemed to be missing something...until I found the Patagonia messenger bag! I use this daily when riding to work on my bike, and on days off I use it as a great bag for my cameras and equipment. I especially like the laptop sleeve that not only suspends within the bag, but can also be used alone with its own handle. Excellent quality, fast shipping from Zappos, and attention to detail makes a great purchase.

About Patagonia
Patagonia's values reflect those of a business that started as a band of climbers and surfers who wanted to stay out as long as they can, doing what they love, no matter the weather. Patagonia's design approach to every product, from technical shells for snow and ice, to moisture-wicking underclothes, to everyday clothes, demonstrates a functional bias toward simplicity and utility. Quality is impeccable, and the guarantee lifelong.
Patagonia's love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of the planet. They use organic cotton; most polyester is recycled. They give moral support - and 1% of sales, $25 million to date - to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups in the U.S., Europe and Japan.

A perfect-sized bag. It does not have much shape to it, and is very slippery on your back. I would not recommend for cycling. It is super comfortable to carry, though.

It's huge! They really need a bag that is in between the Mini Mass and the Half Mass. Otherwise the quality and features are great.

I love it but some of the straps are way too long when you get it all set up. So I guess you cut 'em. And the top strap gets a bit bulky if you want it higher on your back.

I'm a tech consultant constantly on the go to client sites all over town and was looking for something more stylish than the bland black laptop bags one sees all over. I carry a lot of "junk" with me as I've learned over the years that having the one cable, accessory or CD when you really need it will save your nut. This bag hits the mark on style, I really love it. It has a semi-padded removable center area for laptop and a few papers/folders. Back pocket can hold my CD case, label maker, laptop power supply and mouse. Front area holds portable hard drives and second slave drive power supply. Very front pocket holds pens, screwdrivers, blades, keys. Back outside pocket can hold two 10" network cables. A few gripes: there isn't a defined area a la a pocket protector to hold pens/pencils etc so they float loose in the front pocket. A hanging clip for a key ring would be nice. The removable laptop bag-in-a-bag snaps in via two clips on the side and one at the bottom - net effect is that items can float from front to back on either side of this bag; I would prefer distinct/defined pockets. I'll never remove this part of the bag so I wish it was connected but your mileage may vary. Pics and video don't describe this part of the bag so I'm doing my best. Overall these negatives are outweighed by the style and comfort of the strap.

This bag is cool. I bought the teal but the color isn't as bright as it is on the product picture. It is actually a lot darker in real life and is not as feminine as I hoped. It can carry a bunch of stuff though and I am always surprised how many thing I can carry. I wouldn't buy this again as I would go for something more girly but the Half Mass is still cool.

After much debate and research, I finally settled on the Patagonia Half Mass two years ago, and it couldn't have been more perfect! It is able to hold my 17" laptop (not in sleeve, but in the body itself), a binder or two and a textbook or two. Amazing for a college student! It is really comfortable to carry around, and it has plenty of pockets to hold all of my other necessary items, like wallet, cell phone, water bottle, pens, etc. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great, sturdy bag.

I love this bag. It's not too big and not too small. I got it for school. It has a pullout sleeve my laptop. I am 35 years old and wanted something not so tweenager. I love it.

Bought this for my husband who carries a typical brief case. We took a week long vacation and wanted him to have something more comfortable. He lived it and so did I.

Okay, so when I got this I was really worried it would not be big enough, but it's perfect. I use it for school, it fits my 16.5 inch Dell and all of my books. The strap is a bit tricky, but it is very adjustable. The color (Pink) is very pretty. Great bag (big)! I am glad I got this one instead of the Critical Mass - that one must be huge. Thanks Zappos!

This is a very good bag. It is nice and roomy with plenty of compartments to organize smaller items. My only complaint is that the pressure release clips on the front that keep the flap in place are too small. They are a little difficult to operate due to their size. If these were a bit larger, this bag would be perfect.

This is a great bag. It is the perfect size. I ride a bike to work and it holds everything I need. It looks presentable in the office too. The only downfall is it needs a few more interior pockets. Zappos shipped it right out and I received it a couple days early.

I really love this bag - I am a small woman (5'2") and have struggled to find a bag that is comfortable to carry and can actually hold all the things I want to bring along. The Half Mass manages both wonderfully - I can carry a big stack of grading, a water bottle, a lunch, and a sweater with room to spare! Organizers are also great, with lots of options for pens, cell phone, wallet, keys, etc. Only complaint is that I wasn't thrilled with the color choices this season - but that's just personal preference. I am not easily pleased and I am really happy with this bag.

I love this bag! I am very happy I bought it. It is perfect for biking and walking, which I do a lot of. It is very visible and reflective. It has tons of space and expands a lot when I go grocery shopping. And then it is still really comfortable to wear home even when it is heavy- the strap is great. I use it almost every day. And if you are worried that it is a little too pink, I just got a compliment on the color combination yesterday. I highly recommend it!

Great bag overall. Holds its shape well while still being comfortable. Well made, waterproof. One of my favorite parts is that it has different compartments for iPod, phone, pens, etc., instead of just one big grab-all pocket like most bags.
