Funky footbed - This shoe is very cool-looking. The quality of construction is high. I had to return this shoe because the footbed is funky. When I looked at the footbed it was like peering into the bottom of a boat; deep and rounded. When I put the shoes on, I had bad pressure points on the lateral surfaces of each foot near the 5th metatarsals. I was bummed that they didn't fit well because I know that Patagonia has a reputation for quality and environmental consciousness.

Patagonia Drifter - These are by far the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. They are light and durable and above all, comfortable. I had to send my first pair back to exchange because of some defective glue, but the amazing Zappos had new shoes to me within 15 hours and all was well.

These shoes are amazingly comfortable, right out of the box, and only get better as you break them in.

The shoe is great. Good looking and very comfortable. Requires a short break in period, after which your feet have found a home. I am a day hiker and have used these shoes on the Appalachian Trail, as well as other less demanding trails. Used it traveling in Europe on city sidewalks and hiking trails. Used it in rain and snow, feet remained dry. One of the best shoes I have owned in a while. Laces are thick and probably long lasting, but require a double knot to hold.

About Patagonia
Patagonia's values reflect those of a business that started as a band of climbers and surfers who wanted to stay out as long as they can, doing what they love, no matter the weather. Patagonia's design approach to every product, from technical shells for snow and ice, to moisture-wicking underclothes, to everyday clothes, demonstrates a functional bias toward simplicity and utility. Quality is impeccable, and the guarantee lifelong.
Patagonia's love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of the planet. They use organic cotton; most polyester is recycled. They give moral support - and 1% of sales, $25 million to date - to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups in the U.S., Europe and Japan.

I bought the Drifter for a six-month trip to Brazil and Chile because I needed a shoe that could do it all: a restaurant, a rainstorm, a long bus ride, as well as serious hiking. In Chile, I did several multi-day/fully loaded treks in Patagonia, and these shoes performed magnificently - way above my expectations. I never missed my boots and always felt my ankles were well supported. I didn’t have too many wet days, so I got lucky and never had a problem with water coming into the shoe. I trekked some very rough terrain, and the Vibram sole did as expected – it easily handled it. The shoes are sturdy, stiff, and although heavier than other hiking shoes, lighter than my boots. The laces did slip at first, but that problem got better as the laces got broken in. These shoes performed great and still have a lot of life left in them – they are what I will travel with on my forthcoming trip to Nepal. I don’t post these reviews often, but I felt compelled to publicly recommend them.

I bought these shoes at a local store. I work for UPS so I am on my feet all day. These shoes are comfortable. I also received a lot of compliments on how they look. I went on Zappos since our company delivers your products. I heard nothing but great reviews on the service of Zappos. Plus, the pricing was great. Sure enough I found the same shoe for less money than anyone else. What a deal! I had to get another pair.

Fit perfect from day one. Little to no break in period. I have received a few compliments on the looks from co-workers. I have been wearing everyday for about one months. The Goretex keeps my feet dry and my feet do not sweat as much as some other boots with Goretex.

These shoes were great, but don't expect to get heavy walking in without them wearing out. After a year, the sole of the shoes is ruined. The rest of the shoe is still in great shape and the shoe would still be comfortable if the sole was still present. Would not recommend for people who do a lot of walking.

Shoe took three days to break in. Once broken in they felt great. One problem is the rubber on the toe is starting to come off already where the toes bend. Something like this is expected to happen but i only have had them for a month now. Huge patagonia fan but not real happy with this shoe.

Second pair of Drifters. This time I upgraded to the Gore-Tex because they were on sale! I'm not really a guy to wear "boots" so the Drifter is the perfect mix of shoe/boot. It's like a shoot.

I work in all conditions of weather, and this shoe has proven itself. I got the shoes maybe a month ago and have been working 15 hour days seven days a week in them. It only took about two days to get them molded to my feet. They didn't need to be broken in at all. I actually want to buy a couple more pair. I haven't submerged them yet, but my feet are always around water - and so far, dry. They really are great shoes.

I am one of the most difficult to fit. Serious flat fleet, heavy pronation and a collapsed arch. This shoe "fit like a glove". Very supportive, true to size and comfortable from the get go. Only issue is trying to get a snug lacing.

These shoes are attractive enough for work. But the reviews concerning the laces coming untied too frequently is true. Also, that vibram tread is going to only last a few months if you only walk on concrete.

My second pair; excellent fit and very durable. The inside heel lining of my first pair has worn through, but it doesn't seem to matter. Those shoes have seen a lot of hard ranch and hiking use; whether it is wet or dry, hot or cold, they are always comfortable.

I love Zappos and I love Patagonia. However, I do not love the Patagonia Drifter. I had previously completed several long loaded backpacking expeditions in a pair of Keen Obsidians (an unusually odd looking shoe which was very comfortable) which afforded great feel for the trail, appropriate flex, Gore-Tex and a much reduced feeling of ankle roll potential. The con was that the sole was thin allowing some discomfort on the ball of the foot behind the toes. So when I was looking to move up I purchased the drifter as featured in BackPacker magazine. Right out of the box I wore them for almost every thing for two weeks. I took them on a 5 day 35 mile heavy pack hike in the Smokies and was quite disappointed. The thickness of the soul caused a constant sense of potential for ankle roll and the shoe was heavy. The stiffness of the sole caused significant foot fatigue and the leather proved water proof but quite heavy. The shoe looks nice and I will probably wear them to the office or on early morning dewy walks but they will unlikely accompany me on any future long adventures.

This is the second pair of these I've ordered. Great shoes. They fit well new, and break in great. Durable, comfortable, and I hope Patagonia continues to make them for years to come.

Great fit, very sturdy shoe, can wear all day and provides great support. Lugs started tearing off and separating from the sole. Bad flaw for such a great shoe.
