I always have trouble finding shoes that feel snug around the instep and offer arch support, do not let my heel slide, and do not squeeze my toes. (Asolo and Vasque are too narrow in the front, Keen too wide in midfoot and heel). I normally wear a 39 dress shoe, and 41 sport shoe with socks. I have learned to specify my Euro size and ignore the random US sizes. I ordered the waterproof Patagonia Drifter A/C mid in a couple women's sizes: Size 9½ is Euro 40½, Size 10 is Euro 41, and size 10½ is Euro 41½. These Euro sizes are smaller than the usual equivalents (Asolo's Size 9 is euro 41½). The boot is nice looking, if a bit clunky due to that nice wide toe box. I wish the heel were a bit narrower, but i is not bad. It has a flexible sole that gives lots of feel for the terrain, but in return is missing the stiff platform you might want for carrying a loaded backpack. The upper has a lot of mesh and also feels soft. You really have to tug the laces if you want a tight fit, but the widely spaced eyelets leave plenty of room to do so (when my Vasque Breezes are snug the opposing eyelets touch). For me, the 9 was a bit too small (they are nice and soft so it took 20 minutes with them on for me to realize how much the arch being in the wrong place was hurting my instep). I put the 10 on one foot and the 10½ on the other. I initially thought either would work with the right socks but given some time, the 10½ revealed that the laces were putting pressure across the top of my foot (I assume because the highest part of my foot was in the wrong part of the boot). The 10 aka 41, is the right size for me. (again, I normally wear an 8 or 8½ in a dress shoe) All that said... I wear my Oboz hiking shoes for easy footing, but I want more support for more challenging hikes. I am sure the Drifter is great for trekking around on flat footing, but I think that I want a bit more ankle support for uneven, ankle-twisty terrain. I love the support of Asolos but they just don't fit me. I'll compare these to the Salomon Quest 4D and Scarpa Kailash. I will report more findings under those boots after I try them. P.S. If Drifter is almost but not quite right for you, try Ahnu's Montara for another super flexible, cushy boot.

These shoes are so incredibly comfortable right out of the box! I love that about Patagonia, however, the wp doesn't last long enough. I had these shoes barely 8 months and already they sprung a leak. Hiking in my opinion requires wp shoes so now these can only be worn when I am just out and about and sure it wont rain. I know shoes are only "guaranteed" for 3-6 months but for this price I expected the wp to last a lot longer. I needed a quick replacement so sucked it up and bought another pair for the weekend, but it is my last pair as I don't relish wasting my money. Again, you can't beat the comfort, but they need to fix the wp.

I love this boot! I don't even know what else to say it's so wonderful! I bought it to go hiking in Scotland and am so excited to wear it! Although their tennis shoes run short on me, this boot is True to Size.

Amazing! I love Patagonia and these didn't disappoint me one bit. I have very high arches & bunions, so it's a challenge getting shoes that are comfortable. These fit the bill! I have hiked with them several times and they are comfortable and seem to be waterproof. I will agree the ankle support isn't as good as some, but comfort makes up for it. You won't be disappointed!
