Very sturdily constructed -- perfect for my daily off-trail fieldwork. (I switched to these from Merrells because those didn't hold up well.) Comfortable from the start -- no break-in was needed. My only quibble is that I wish it had metal hooks in place of the top one or two shoelace holes to make lacing a bit easier.

I was in search of a lightweight (and cute) hiking shoe for an upcoming trip. I tried the Merrell Moab, Merrell Moab Waterproof, Merrell Siren Sport 2, Teva Sky Lake, and Patagonia Drifter -- and ultimately selected the Moab Waterproof. For reference, the sizing that fit me in each were my true size of 6.5 in the Teva, 7 in all of the Merrells and 7.5 in the Patagonia. Both Moabs were the most comfortable right out of the box. They were cushioning and not stiff, not heavy feeling, despite weighing more than some of the others I tried. The Teva Sky Lake had the slimmest profile, followed by the Merrell Siren Sport. So if not being 'boxy and big' matter a lot, go for these. Both were stiff, though, and I couldn't imagine being in them all day. The Patagonia Drifter was almost as comfy and cushiony as the Moabs, but was slightly more bulky (ie, rugged). There was virtually no different between the Moab Ventilator and Moab Waterproof, even though one is 1 oz heavier. I did not have a chance to test the waterproof-ness since I needed to keep them in returnable condition. I selected the Moab Ventilator simply for aesthetics. This review won't help you with their utility since I haven't worn them outside the house, but it'll give you a comparison on fit, comfort and profile.

I bought these for my wife. I also bought the men's version for myself. She likes the fact that we have matching shoes and I like the fact that we both have very durable and rugged hiking shoes for our upcoming hike. Either way, we're both happy!

I got these for hiking and morning walks in a wet grassy field/trails. All of my other shoes left me with wet feet. I got the bigger size so I could wear thick hiking socks. They were comfortable right out of the box. Great support. A bit stiff, but that is normal with a trail shoe for stability. Haven't tested them in a stream or deep puddle yet. If they are true to Patagonia quality, they will hold up well. This is my first pair of their shoes.

I'd also recommend: dansko, keen, mephisto, gentle souls, tsubo

I got these to hike around doing wildlife research. My feet felt much better after a day in these than they did with my old boots. The Gore-Tex helped when it came to muddy areas and shallow streams, but these shoes filled up like buckets when I had to wade through wet, tall grass. Unavoidable, perhaps, but maddening. The laces that came with the shoes kept coming untied -- I joked about intentionally gumming them up with burrs. So, overall, I recommend these shoes -- just don't expect to have dry feet on the dampest days and switch out the laces if you don't want to have to re-tie them every hour on the hour.
