I had a DKNY parka I bought for cheap until I realized it's just too bulky for me to use, especially when sitting in the car. I came across this parka after looking at other options (e.g. The North Face), and it is a best buy for its price (I bought it on clearance -- yay Zappos!). It's not too thick, relatively light, and gives my petite frame a slight shape so I don't look like a burrito. It's relatively warm for a walk around the block in midwinter -- now it should be understood that unless you're all intentionally bundled up like a sherpa you won't stay warm in sub-zero teens temperature with this, however, with a couple layers, you'd survive the colder winters in the Midwest. To give a point of reference, I used to live in the tropics where the coolest it gets would be the 70s -- now, I typically wear a fleece-lined cotton hoodie/jacket for 50-60 F temps, a thick zip-on cotton sweater underneath a leather jacket at about 30-upwards temps, a thick cotton sweater underneath a wool trench coat at about 20-30 F. Anything lower I don a down-filled parka (like this). I tried this on a 4 F day with a thick sweater underneath, and it's kept me cozy and warm for errands. Of course if you commute, you'd have to err dressing on the warmer side. Overall, it was a great buy for me. I got the nice blue color at XS for my 5' petite frame, and it leaves me enough room for a couple thick sweaters to layer underneath. The sleeve length is just right (that's coming from someone who usually has problems with sleeves that are too long).

I am 5'3 and this coat is not a good length at all. It hits below the knee and feels awkward. The construction of the coat is nice and it isn't too bulky, but I would recommend being 5'5 or taller if you are going to purchase this coat.

I purchased this coat and North Face Metropolis Parka because I couldn't decide between the two. I tried this one on first and it was just, "ok". I then tried on the North Face and it was so much softer and comfortable in comparison. The Patagonia was stiffer, and lacked the extra snaps and reinforced zipper lining like the NF. The "Down With It" is definitely a nice coat, but didn't win when compared to the NF.

I have been wearing this coat to walk 2 miles to work to Chicago in 15 degree weather, and it is perfect. Long enough to cover my thighs without being too long. It's warm but not bulky. Be warned - it is a slim fit. It is not designed to wear with bulky clothing underneath like a blazer or a thick sweater.

This is a very well made coat. Very light and warm, however it is a slim fit and I 'm not so slim. I am waiting for a shipment to try another Patagonia coat before deciding whether to keep or not. Another 10 pounds off would make it fit fine. I ordered lg. and it is a tad tight in the waist, hips are fine. I am 5' 4" 160 lbs.

Perfect nicer insulated jacket. I ordered five coats from Zappos and this was by far the most flattering. The fit is excellent, the narrowest part is higher up, like an empire waist, and only very slightly flared to the hem. The result is slim compared to the bulk of the others I tried. The hood actually fits well and the double ended zipper is convenient with the longer length. Worth it!
