I can't say enough about this trench coat. I bought it at a Pagagonia store in Chicago out of necessity: It was pouring rain, and the winds were strong - and I was unprepared for the weather (I was visiting from out of town). I'd been looking for a trench coat for some time before purchasing this one. I couldn't find anything that suited me until I found this coat. Yes, it's expensive, but it's so worth it, at least in my opinion. It has wonderful features. Perhaps the most important thing about it is that it's 100% waterproof and breathable. It has lots of snaps, and I was particularly happy that it has snaps around the neckline to keep water out. It has two side pockets, and it also has an inside pocket, on the upper left side of your chest, presumably for an iPod, cell phone, etc. One other feature that I really like is the belt. I typically avoid belts because the belt gets twisted, falls off, etc. That's impossible with this belt, as it doesn't go all the way around. It starts at the waist, so there's no chance of the belt twisting or falling off. My only wish for this coat is that the hood were a bit longer & stayed in place better. In defense of Patagonia, it was a windy day. But I had to hold onto the hood to keep it in place; there were no ties of any sort to keep it in place. But if there were ties, it would have made the coat look less classy, in my opinion. One last thing: I found the coat to be true to size. I strongly recommend this coat; it's well worth the money!

This trench coat in blue is really unusual and lovely as well as stylish. If it is really waterproof too, that is great. My only ohter comments - I wish it were 1 to 2 inches longer. The price is a bit steep but it is really a pretty coat.

This is an excellent mid-length trench coat. I bought it for an early June trip to Paris. It could pass for dressy over cocktail attire and for casual over hiking attire. Stated differently, it didn't look too much like either a dress coat or a hiking rain jacket. Since I travel light on frequent business trips to Europe, each item I bring has to be multifunctional and this coat fits the bill. Because it is Patagonia quality, it also repelled heavy rain. The built-in hood and attached belt also worked particularly well. I know another reviewer criticized the hood but I had no problem with it. Having a hood frees me from carrying an umbrella. I also tried a less expensive Marmot jacket but it was less shaped and more appropriate for hiking than city wear. This coat is well worth the cost given its versatility.

I'd also recommend: The North Face, Mountain Hardware

Really beautiful material, hardware, and workmanship. Fits very close to the body; unfortunately, too close for me and the sleeves to long for me. But if the size works for you, it's well worth the money.

This is a great coat, with qualifications. It is shaped nicely, but the sizing is a bit strange. The medium is slightly tight in the waist and hip but has ample room for a larger bust, which is unusual. The large was too large all over, not flattering. And according to Patagonia's size chart I should wear an XL, which I was absolutely swimming in. My real gripe is that the zipper is the only fastener. It would be greatly improved by adding some snaps or toggles down the front, for days when you don't want to mess with a zipper. Not a fan of the belt, I just tie it behind. Also, the pockets are set a bit far back for comfort. But still, nice shape, attractive enough to wear as a spring/fall coat even when it's not raining, quality materials and construction. But for this price I would expect slightly more thoughtful design.
