At 49, I realized that I needed to move from a minimalist shoe on longer runs. But I didn't want to give up zero drop. I discovered Altras and gave them a try. Wow, what a difference. So much of a difference, that I also bought a pair of Altra One 2.5's. I wear the One's for runs up to about 6 miles, and the Paradigms for runs beyond that. When I first ran with these, they felt a little stiff and "heavy"...again, I was transitioning from a 250g minimalist shoe...but after about 2 miles they felt great, not heavy at all. I was also worried that they would feel unstable, since your foot is farther away from the ground, but they are very stable. No "wobble" at all. The foot shaped toe box feels great. You'll wonder why shoes are made any other way. Plenty of room for your toes to move.

Having been a long time fan of Hoka's, I noticed a lot of Ultrarunners on YouTube running in Altra's. I thought I would give them a try, and was very impressed! I started off easy, and was unsure if I liked them or not. I ran several 3 mile training runs in them, and then hit several personal records in them shortly thereafter (6,7, & 8 mile)! What I like about these shoes is that they are lightweight, and they feel like a racing flat, but they also have extra cushioning that is responsive and practically unnoticeable when you are sprinting into the home stretch. I bought a pair of black ones as well for work. I do a lot of walking and standing at work, and noticed the higher rear sole in my other shoes (Hokas) made me constantly lean forward. Therefore, my lower back was constantly trying to compensate for the the gravity imbalance which caused lower back pain. With these Altras, I am level and upright when I stand and can already tell a positive difference. Hope this review helps. Will recommend these shoes!

I'd also recommend: Hoka

These are fantastic shoes! You feel like you're walking on clouds! I have used orthotics for years now, but with these, because of the wide toe box and cushioning, I haven't needed to wear them at all. The sole is very soft, so they might wear out relatively quick, but after 2 weeks of 10 hour days working on concrete, they're doing great, so time will tell. Anyway, in conclusion, these are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, period.

I have the Altra Torin 2.5 that I'm very happy with. I supinate and that shoe accommodates that. The Paradigm 2.0doesn't. Also the Torin 2.5 is cushioned and this is very hard.

I'd also recommend: I think the particular shoe makes much more of a difference than a brand

Nice shoes, but squeeze my feet, especially my right foot where I feel continual rough irritation just fore of the arch. Toe room is good. I feel relief after removing the shoes as if my feet can relax again. Tried loosening the laces, but that defeats the purpose of avoiding the shoes from rubbing on the back of foot. Too bad they are not available in a wider size.
