I wanted to like this bag, but after I got it and looked it over, I did not feel it was worth this price. The nylon lining was very thin and the compartments, though great looking in the images, were very odd. The front compartment has card slots, pen slots, a key clip and felt lined pocket for phones. But that compartment's flap closes with magnets that are sewn inside the flap. This could be great since it would prevent ripping, but the magnets were very weak and when I tried out the bag by putting my everyday load in, the flap kept popping open. I had fairly small and flat things in that compartment, so it's not as if it was stuffed. I also decided that I would be too concerned about the plastic piece that attaches one side of the strap to the bag. I would not want it to break, and did not understand why that piece could not be metal like the strap adjustment piece. And finally, the bag just ended up seeming too small for me. I decided it would not work and if I would be spending money on a bag that I would probably be a little rough on (everyday use, using while hiking, camping, traveling) I would want to feel secure with it. This one just seemed too flimsy and the front flap not secure enough. I will be returning it for another bag on Zappos I almost ordered instead. At least Zappos makes quick and easy returns, refunds and deliveries/exchanges!

Nice color and plenty of pockets but needed a bag with a bit more security. The outside flap has a velcro closure and with the bag full of items, high likelihood something would fall out with active use.

I really like this bag - I'm a nurse and needed something to carry my lunch and stethoscope, etc. and wanted to not get the traditional "nurse bag" which are usually tacky and lacking style. This bag does collapse into nothing but expands generously to hold all my junk. The pockets inside are too small, and I feel like for the price it should also have a long shoulder strap rather than just the two flimsy handles. However, I'm in a hurry and want the bag for the coming next few days and don't have the luxury of shopping around. Overall, for the price not quite sturdy enough and not quite substantial enough. Maybe for $50? This would not work for the gym or for carry on luggage. Not sure what it's for, but I've got it and I'm keeping it.

Nice travel toiletry bag - big enough to hold everything I need and still squish into a suitcase. Not particularly gorgeous but very useful and practical.

This is a terrible purse. The strap is so slippery that it won't stay on my shoulder. I thought that all the pockets would be fantastic, but if you actually put things in them, the front flap of the bag won't close properly. Nothing falls out, but people keep stopping me to tell me my bag is open.

Overall I am very happy with this backpack. There are many useful pockets and I love the outer, open drawstring pocket that can be used for bigger items that you might want to extend out of the bag. My only wish is that it had a chest strap connecting the shoulder straps to take some weight off my shoulders. Well and that maybe it had one of those straps that lets you secure it to a roller bag.

I love this bag! It was the ideal size/weight I was looking for and the strap is also great for me. The padded section is wonderful for my iPad if I decide to carry it, but not too bulky when I don't. Only two things keep it from being perfect: 1) I wish the organizer pockets were in the main compartment instead of the front zip section. When filled, they weigh the front down a bit. The inside could use the pockets. 2) The zipper pulls could be a little more substantial; they are a little clumsy. I bought the olive color and love it. It's very neutral. I definitely buy this again, especially if the mentioned changed were implemented.

This is a pretty great bag! It's nice because it can hold a laptop, binder, notebook, etc. like a regular backpack, but looks more like a tall messenger bag. I wanted it to be able to function as both a purse and school bag, but discovered it's a little bit too big for me to use it as a regular purse. It's awesome for college students who want to take this to all their classes, though! I only have classes a couple days a week, so I don't necessarily want to carry this everyday. I will likely use it as my carry-on when traveling from now on. It has a ton of pockets, too, which is something I always look for in a bag. It would be very very easy to overfill this bag and make it too heavy, but I guess that's where the backpack straps come in. A few things I wish it had: -More structure so that it could stand up better on its own. It's pretty floppy, so if you don't have a notebook or something else that's sturdy in it, it will fold over on itself. This also makes it more difficult to find things in all the pockets. -Either removable backpack straps, or a pocket that closes to put them in when not in use. The pocket that holds the backpack straps doesn't close on top, and tends to open up when carrying it, and it gets in the way and looks weird. I might add velcro or something, because I don't see myself using those straps often. -The bottom has the same material as the rest of the bag, and I would rather it had a more sturdy/durable material to keep it looking nice longer, and to protect the stuff inside a little better.

I have found this bag very useful while traveling. It has become my default travel purse, especially when I don't need to carry a big backpack around. It is not too bulky, has a pocket ideal for a passport and even fits my point-and-shoot. I'm glad I got one in black when it was still available.

This is the first "purse" I have ever bought: all my life I've pretended not to be a girly girl by using everything from old feed sacks, satchels, fanny packs (yes!), backpacks and even my husband's hand-me-down man-bag. Since that last one was my favorite so far, I went to the company that made it and found this - the best bag I ever had: lightweight nylon, straightforward, easy to access pockets, with iPad compartment, phone compartment. Of course no bag ever has the exact right pockets and flaps (too many or too few) and this is no exception. Here are my small beefs: 1. exterior phone pocket was just slightly too small for my Galaxy Note 3 - I cut out a few stitches at the edges and sewed them neatly open - it fits now but it takes so long to cram it in, I don't bother. 2. there are some dividers inside the zippered front area, but they're made of the flimsy swiss dot fabric - if I put something like a lipstick or a pen they don't hold it up. it doesn't feel like a secure place to put, say, my checkbook or my bluetooth earpiece. There's a zippered pocket within, but now you've had to undo two zippers to get at your stuff 3. The place I would have liked some dividers is in the main "sack" - the one with the magnetic closure. that's the biggest area of the purse, and closest to your body - best place for heavy stuff or stuff you want near you - but things get lost in there. These are small issues, as I've said, I've never had a purse that had the compartments just right for me.

I've had this for about a month and the Velcro is already wearing out - which is a bigger problem with this bag because of how it is designed, if it gapes open the items in the front pouch easily fall out - so if you go to pick it up by the handle and its not secure everything comes out. But its a great size and very light weight, fits lots of stuff. But I also think its overpriced.

I loved this bag, and had it for about 2 months, when one of the grommets FELL OFF and now the strap is broken. If you look closely, the only thing attaching the leather strap to the bag are 2 grommets, which are adjustable but NOT SECURE at all. I am very disappointed in this bag. I have had Overland bags before, and liked them, but this style is of very poor quality.

Let me first say I am a recovering purse junkie, wanting to be a small purse carrying chic minimalist. I saw a woman in the grocery store carrying an Overland bag and asked her about (she had the Donner). I started looking at the bags on Zappos and couldn't remember the name the woman had other than the brand. So I took a stab and bought the Placer. At first I thought too small for me...then I decided to try it out and it WAS perfect. I. Mean. Perfect. Granted I've only had it for a day, but it fits my keys, checkbook (yes, some people still use those) 2 lipsticks, small wallet, pen, ear buds, chapstick, a little bit of hard candy with room for more small things like aspirin. This small bag is absolutely very well made, exceptionally light weight, and perfect as a cross body or over the shoulder, but better as a cross body because it's so light.

Nice bag - well made, and good looking. The fabric has a subtle sheen, and the colors are good. Rugged without looking too sporty for other attire besides strictly casual. Kind of slouchy, too, so that adds a softer more feminine touch, too. Just what I was looking for.

This is a great backpack. I picked it up mostly for its looks, figuring the laptop sleeve was not that helpful and it didn't look like it had a lot of pockets. But it's extremely well-made, has some lovely touches (like the solid metal zipper pulls), and it's very comfortable for me (5"6 woman). I do somewhat wish the top zippered shut instead of the strap & snap combo, but I love the side zipper on the bag that makes it much easier to get out my wallet and magazine while commuting. And it turns out the laptop sleeve is great - even though it says it fits a tablet or netbook, I was able to comfortably fit a 13" Macbook Pro. I'd originally bought a slightly cheaper, lighter bag and I'm glad that I ordered this one to compare - I think it will hold up much longer and it holds a ton of stuff for its slim profile.

This bag is very large, closer to a a messenger bag than a cross-body purse. In person, I found it to have a very informal look that I found to be a bit too casual for work. The primary problem, though, is that the main compartment doesn't close securely. There is only one small snap to hold it together. That just seems to invite pickpockets as well as items falling out. I will return it and keep looking for a bag that closes securely.

I usually don't write reviews, but this is really the best iPad and "other item" shoulder bag I have ever owned, and I've owned a few. It carries well, carries many useful items in addition to the iPad, is well designed, and I have gotten many positive comments on its looks. Highly recommend this bag.

I absolutely love this bag! I bought it to replace the old model of the same thing, and this one is even better! Great size, great fit, and great price.

Great denim color! A lot of pockets and room for a book or water bottle in main compartment. Strap fits across bulky jackets with room to spare.

I'm a longtime fan of Overland Equipment and have had several of their purses over time. I love Donner for its utility - I use every nook and cranny. It's a terrific bag, but I wanted a change of pace, maybe something a bit more streamlined. Thought I'd try Auburn but sadly it doesn't measure up: no webbed pocket inside the front flap, flimsy key hook, not as roomy as other Overland bags...so I'm sending it back and getting another Donner.

I have had this bag for a couple of weeks. At first I wasn't sure I liked it. But I thought I will try it for a couple of days and see. I am glad I did. Now I am enjoying it. Use it daily. The only thing I am still trying to get used to is the width of the handle. Would have preferred 1 inch.
