This bag was the best thing I could have purchased before my trip. I wanted something that would keep my hands free, be small enough yet still carry the essentials. It was everything I could have wanted. Even though it was small, it had several pockets that kept everything organized. I was able to carry everything I needed, wallet, water bottle, etc. for a day of site seeing.

I hate ugly shoes. Water shoes are ugly. This was my attempt at a compromise. The problem is they are still ugly and didnt really function well. The water doesnt drain out of them fast enough and you are left with soggy shoes that trap all the muck from the pond. One came off and I had to fish it out of 6 inches of mud-underwater. They run short-just the length was an issue not the width. I am usually a 9 and my toes were pressing against the end of the size 9 I ordered. The blue color was cute though.

After receiving my Teva Elixer 5, I tested their durability by wearing them for a half-marathon. For the past six months, I've ran them uphill, downhill, through the creek, through the coral-bottom ocean (they float) and back. These sandals have held up like a champ. I will definitely purchase another pair, if these ever wear out.

I've only had them for about a month and these are as good as I had hoped so far. The lacing system stays tight and if you don't feel like lacing them, they make great slip-ons. I bought them for trail running but wear them more often since they are so comfortable. After reading reviews about them being a bit narrow, I opted for the E width, which fit my slightly wider feet perfectly. If you normally order an EE width, you should look elsewhere.

from Montana Overall Rating:
Overall, the design is great for a school/commuter bag, but the flimsy nylon material would call for a price drop in my experienced opinion. I wouldn't recommend this for the trail. I have an old NF book pack from '95...it was a good bag, I carried it everywhere in high school and part of college and I bought the new Recon based off of my old bag. I'm disappointed in the nylon materials used for the body of the pack, especially for the price. The materials feel cheap, thin and flimsy...I can only hope it stands up to abuse better than I suspect it will. On the positive notes, the Recon is designed well for a good school/commuter bag, I wouldn't wear this on the trail...I have more technical packs for serious adventures. The organizer panel is nice...lots of slots, even a few padded squarish ones for your electronics. The organizer in my bag is a medium gray with red accents...the lighter color helps make items more viable. (I bought the "bittersweet brown" color). The outside pocket on the front is a great stash pocket...they say it will fit a bike helmet...I don't bike but will stash my stethoscope and a light jacket in there. "The North Face" logo is embroidered at the bottom, while the pack's name is screen printed off to the side. There are two loops directly below the logo...which I find pretty much useless on a school pack (but love them on technical packs). There's also an additional zippered pocket just above the large mesh one on the front...its medium size is good for snacks or a headlamp and other small tools. The inside is roomy enough. Forget it if you're trying to bring your laptop AND 2 inch binder along with a couple text books...the pack isn't deep enough. Although my 2 inch binder and medium sized texts seem to fit fine. There's an internal sleeve/pocket for a water bladder or laptop...my 17 inch can fit ok. The zippers are quality. Easy to open and close although the protective zipper flaps get in the way often. 2 mesh side pockets fit a regular nalgene bottle easily. Shoulder straps are ergonomic and made with a thin but dense foam. I was wearing a strapless top my first day with the pack and the straps chaffed my skin. The sternum strap IS adjustable. There is a stretchy pocket on your left shoulder which is too small for my sun glasses but would fit an ipod or cell phone nicely. Two elastic bands cross the shoulder straps as well...I guess you could clip your keys here or loop sunglasses under them. Back panel feels nice with its contoured mesh fabric. The hip belt is basically worthless, it's thin and cheap and would offer no support for the pack at all...I removed them completely. Compression straps at the sides and bottom, which I find extremely useful. The side straps are attached to some funky rubberized material, I wonder when/if it will rip.

I got these shoes for water hiking and canyoneering. Breaking in the shoes gave a few blisters but thats typical for me. The first hike I did in these shoes was the Zions Narrows and I couldnt be happier. If youre not familiar with the Narrows in Zion it will test any shoe and these passed. 13 miles of the hike were in water and the shoe had no problem, the very hard bottom really protects your feet from hard river rocks also. I had to replace the laces but thats about all. I dont like stretchy laces so I used regular tennis shoe laces.

Zappos was great as well-- they had them to me the next afternoon! I definitely recommend both the Hipthongs and Zappos!

I don't know about these...I am usually a size 9, so that's what I ordered. My heel came right out of the back, but was afraid to get the next size down because there wasn't much room in the toe. So I put all sorts of heel pads in, and that kinda helped, but I still can't walk properly in them. The front of the shoe is so large and clunky (although oddly not roomy) that I wind up walking like a duck, with my toes pointing out. I wanted to replace my old Tsubo's that seem to be discontinued, but these do not work nearly as well as those did. --Sigh-- try again!

I ordered the Calistoga because I am always looking for comfortable sandals that won't hurt my already very flat feet. I like comfort, but also need good support, and I would say these sandals meet both needs. They were a little "stiffer" than I thought they would be (I have another pair of Keens that were much more flexible right out of the box) but they get more comfortable each time I wear them. I usually wear a size 7 shoe, so that is what I ordered and they fit perfectly, so they are true to size. I highly recommend this sandal!

I bought a pair of these comfortable, not too cute shoes last summer. I notice hardly any breakdown on them and trust they will last another summer of ocean, lake, and hiking fun. Great quality, totally worth the money. One draw back I have experienced - during water/dirt activities, rocks and sand get stuck inside the front protective toe.

I purchased these shoes based on all the positive reviews from magazines and other reviewers. I was a little hesitant due to not being able to try them on first. Zappos was great! I accidentally put 2 pairs in my cart. When I realized it, I called Zappos. They fixed my error and upgraded my order to 2 day shipping. My shoes were here in 2 days. The shoes were extremely comfortable and fit true to size. I wear a size 39 and have just your average foot with no foot issues. Other reviewers were concerned about the ability to replace the laces, but I've never had a pair of laces break prior to actually wearing out a shoe. If for some reason, you had to replace the laces, it would be difficult to access the lower eyelets. I've had them for just over a month now. I wore them while backpacking 30 miles in the Grand Canyon and immersed them while walking in a creek for about a mile. These shoes had superior grip. They are flexible in the forefoot and allow the foot to flex. Rocks don't get caught in the tread. The shoelace cover kept the dirt from getting in. After 30 miles of backpacking, I had no blisters or hot spots. Other than some scuffing on the sides of the soles, these shoes show no sign of wear. After hiking in the creek, I removed the insole and allowed the shoes to dry overnight. You'd never know I used them as river shoes. These are great shoes and Zappos provided great service. I'd highly recommend the shoes and Zappos.

As someone with Flintstone feet, it is very difficult to find shoes for the summer. These are pretty comfortable. I wear a 9 or 9.5 & ordered a 9.5 - these feel a little short - might consider ordering up a size. They do give you sweaty feet, too, but that's probably not unusual in the summer. Look good with shorts and long pants.

I wore these at the beach in Hawaii, where there is a lot of coral close to shore. They were great for tide pooling, but I found them a bit harder to use when playing out in the ocean with my daughter - the toe of the shoe filled with sand almost immediately, and it was very hard to kick with the shoes on. In hindsight, I would have preferred a shoe that came up to the top of my instep in order to limit sand entry and to hold the shoe to my foot more securely when I was treading water or kicking.

Pretty color. I am a D cup and the girls fit into it. I'm 5'3" and it is a little long on me. It also doesn't do the best job of hiding my belly, but I think that's because my frame is broader than most. For the busty, Hurley and O'Neill make dresses and tops of this style in jersey that accommodate a larger chest.
