I got these because of the heavy snows in the northeast. They're just the thing to keep the snow from getting in your boots. I'd give them 5 stars, but I find that the tops could be a bit more snug. Sturdy construction--feels like I should be climbing a mountain with them when I'm only out sledding with my kid.

I bought the OR Verglas Gaiters primarily because Outdoor Research seems to make the vast majority of all gaiter. I wanted Gore-Tex (or some other breathable fabric that is waterproof) and got it with the Verglas Gaiters. They look great, they're easy to put on (once you figure it out the first time) and they are extremely comfortable. There are two problems - and this next part is written for the serious winter outdoors person. Number one, the top of the gaiter closes with a snap-shut strap closure that is prone to coming undone when you are hiking or snowshoeing through crusty ice and snow. They should've put a fastex buckle here but opted instead for a cheap and weak device. Number two. The entire front of the gaiter closes only with Velcro (not velcro over a zipper). Once again, when you're breaking through tough crusty snow/ice, the snow can get through the velcro. I live high in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado and snowshoe in serious conditions. I wouldn't recommend the Verglas Gaiters for my situation. I won't buy them again.
