As the Japanese people recovered from the second world war and began to appreciate the benefits of sports, Onitsuka Tiger™ shoes were on their feet. The first basketball shoes in Japan had a tiger face design on the arch of the foot and this became Onitsuka's trademark. In the 1960's, Onitsuka Tiger™ shoes were worn not only by the Japanese, but also by top foreign athletes.
In 2001, ASICS America Corporation quietly resurrected the Onitsuka Tiger™ brand with original models of Onitsuka shoes and Onitsuka clothing updated in today's flavorful colors. Over the past few years, the Onitsuka Tiger™ brand has been enjoying a growing number of new, dedicated shoe followers along with a steady desire for Onitsuka clothing and Onitsuka bags, realized today on Zappos.com. Through sometimes secretive grassroots marketing efforts, ASICS® has been able to spread this word about this authentic comeback for Onitsuka Tiger™.
Now that the secret is out... Onitsuka Tiger™ is a growing and highly sought after brand with its ever-growing lineup of Onitsuka Tiger™ shoes, Onitsuka Tiger™ clothing and Onitsuka Tiger™ bags. There are more Onitsuka Tiger™ mens´s and Onitsuka Tiger™ women´s models just sitting in the ASICS® vault waiting to be re-released. The future is what this retro brand has to look forward to. Because ASICS® knows that there are people out there who don't need to run fast...they just want to look good.

I buy these Tigers because of the way they look. They are beyond cool, with their ultra low-profile design. They're sexy shoes with a definite European flair to them (though they are Japanese by design). You see these frequently around Paris on the feet of the younger generation. Even though I'm in my 40's they still look cool. You just can't find a cooler-looking, old-school style sneaker. I get compliments all the time. This, I may add, is my second pair, with 2 more on deck. Even my 14 year old son fell in love with them since nobody at his school wears them. So they have a certain "hard-to-find" cool factor that makes them more doable to many. Having said all that, they are not the most supportive shoe out there. In fact, they really are just for looks. You could run in them because they're so light, but they have zero arch support so it would be somewhat like running barefoot. The sole is flat and thin, of course. Still, they're like a feather and they look great. If you want serious running or walking shoes, these aren't them. But if you want some cool shoes, look no further.

I love the look of these shoes. But after buying 2 pairs, I can't recommend them because the suede toe gets instantly dirty and is impossible to clean. I think its a combination of the outside dirt, and sweat from my toes, but the tip of the suede is all dark, almost black. The first pair did this. so the 2nd pair, i made sure i put on suede protector. Then when they started discoloring, I tried suede cleaner and brushes, and it still looks crappy.

These shoes are a classic throwback to a simpler time. Sleek and well-made, they evoke the period of running's glory days. Though they don't feature today's high tech innovations of cushioning and support in running shoes technology, they are great for kicking around and dressing down. They go well with a track suit or jeans. I like to wear them when driving as well.

Great, comfortable shoe! I usually wear Adidas Sambas, but the newer models are not quite as comfy as the older ones. This shoe is my new favorite.

I have two pairs of these and one for casual wear, and one for running. As has been said, they don't have arch support. That's why I'm using them for running as a supplement to barefoot running and runs in my Vibrams. It takes some getting used to, but they're perfect for minimalist running if you're into that sort of thing.

Like these shoes need anymore reviews! After 2 years of ownership, I figured I'd finally document a review. I love these shoes. They've lasted comfortably for 2 years! They run as labeled length wise but are a bit narrow width wise. A great stylish, comfortable shoe every one should own.
I'd also recommend: New Balance, Asics
