Chose the Gravis Staple over this bag after trying them both out. The Small Shadow, at nearly twice the price, is definitely the better constructed bag -- ballistic nylon, great pockets, sturdy hardware, and better organizational features. But it is otherwise similar in profile, aesthetics, and general concept. The Nixon bag would have won out but sat a little high on my shoulders and pinched my neck…Not nearly as comfortable as the Staple. Not a fan of the exterior pouch, either, despite its nice construction, but it's removable. The shoulder and back padding is really nice and soft/firm, though I'm not sure it breathes all that well. Still, if you're not going to carry heavy loads for long periods of time or actually don't mind that bit of pressure on your neck, this is an awesome bag.
Brands I'd also recommend: Gravis

About Nixon
Nixon makes the little stuff better. The stuff you have that isn't noticed first, but can't be ignored. They pay attention to it, argue about it and work day and night to make the little stuff as good as it can be, so when you wear it, you feel like you've got a leg up on the rest of the world. They believe that you deserve a lot of respect and when you choose to kit your fit with Nixon clothing, or select a Nixon wallet to hold your hard earned cash, or want to put the final touch on your steez with a Nixon belt or beanie, you deserve to have something that reflects your entire package. You may not know how to say it, but you've got something to say. Dammit brothers and sisters, you can't slap on an off-the-shelf piece and consider yourself you. Can you? That's why Nixon was started and that's why, 8 years later, they’re still here.
Nestled comfortably out of the way up against the Pacific Ocean in southern California, and tucked neatly next to the best surf in Europe, you'll find Nixon people doing what they do. What started as a frustration at a lack of quality watches that simultaneously do the talking for you and deliver what you need in various high stress work and play environments has grown into a network of athletes, rock stars, retailers, and dedicated loyalists that bring Nixon clothing, backpacks, handbags and accessories to market.
Some people look at professional skateboarders, surfers, and snowboarders and mistakenly think they know what they're looking at. Stereotyping can get you in trouble. Their skills are ridiculous, yes, but their experiences reach far beyond that handrail on the corner. Their actions are focused on perfecting their sports, but their interests and style are anything but focused. Their perspectives are unique, yes, but their needs are universal. It is our job to reconcile the former with the latter. Nixon hand picks those riders that are leaders in their sports and works with this elite group to make sure their perspectives contribute to a single unified expression: team designed, custom built.
Welcome to the now… welcome to the new… welcome to Nixon.
