I really liked these shoes. I took them hiking with me in the Catskills and they held up pretty great despite not really being made for that. I also thought it made me lean forward on my toes a little bit, but felt better after I broke them in. Pretty awesome shoe.

Super comfortable shoe. Lightweight feeling, soft upper and very cushioned. Sole has a great pattern for traction on trails. Has a lot of mesh on the upper to be a pure hiking shoe, but has its purpose for running.

Horrible shoe, felt great when I first tried it on and for the first few hours after that. Unfortunately, there is a part of the heel that is made of a very tough plasticy material that digs into my heel every time I use these shoes, and after about 20 hours of use, I can't even put these shoes on without feeling pain. The part I'm referring to can be seen when you look at the back of the shoe and it's the black T-shaped material on the outside of the heel. I've never had a pair of shoes cause so much pain.

This is my first Trail Running shoe. I thought it would be heavier than it is. The sole is a bit stiffer than a regular running shoe. Because of this the heel seems to slip if I don't get the laces tight enough. They took a little breaking here, which is unusual for me with Nike shoes. They feel fine now. Just have to balance the lace tightness with heel slippage.

This iteration of the Alvord is the best fit for my wide high arched foot. The sole is dramatically improved from the previous one, the cushioning is superior, and the toe box is more generous. The arch is not adequate, but is comfortable with a drop in arch support. The negatives are the heel is slightly too generous, the tongue is inadequately padded, and the silver color is too bright. Yet overall, I'm satisfied.

I've owned several versions of the Alvord and this has the most style. I have yet to trail run in these, but during break in around town, they were solid. The width at 4E is perfect. I have high arches and there is no support, but the shoe was not uncomfortable. I typically have an impossible foot to fit, and overall, I would recommend them.

I am female and wear a 7.5 4E. I was told to order two sizes smaller in men's shoes. I could not order 5.5 in men's so I ordered these shoes in 6 4E. I was worried they would big. Well, they are small and narrow. Avoid Nike if you have wide foot, and need a large/deep toebox. Thanks to Zappos for the free return!
Brands I'd also recommend: New Balance if you need a wider shoe.

I've had a couple pairs of these and they are my favorite running shoes. 5-8 miles on uneven terrain and they have plenty of support for that.
