  • Needing a lightweight and responsive running shoe? The Men's Energy NR will keep you ahead of the pack!
  • Adjusting to Newton running shoes will depend upon several factors including: your current running shoes, your running form, gait efficiency, as well as your speed and flexibility. Those new to natural running form, or those transitioning from a shoe with traditional cushioning will benefit from spending adequate time adjusting. Your body will need time to lengthen the muscles and tendons on the back of the leg and under the foot.
  • Newton recommends that first-timers walk in their shoes for several days to become accustomed to the level platform. Walking barefoot on safe and comfortable surfaces can also be helpful. Once ready, begin by introducing short runs of no longer than 15 minutes every other day. Gradually add 10-15 minutes as your feet and leg muscles begin to strengthen. If soreness persists for more than two days, reduce time in shoes immediately. Rest and ice until soreness subsides, then slowly begin introducing time in shoes again.
  • Designed to fit the needs of runners who want to experience the unique technology platform and ride found only Newton Running shoes.
  • Highly breathable, fast-drying, open mesh upper offers a glove-like fit.
  • Metatarsal stretch panels.
  • Plush tongue and collar for added comfort.
  • Met-flex for enhanced forefoot flexibility.
  • Minimal anatomical support strapping.
  • ETC antifriction, antimicrobial sockliner promotes a great in-shoe environment.
  • Accommodates most orthotics.
  • Action/Reaction Technology: A highly responsive, trampoline-like and engaging midsole cushioning that protects and loses less energy with each step.
  • High-rebound EVA.
  • Biomechanical metatarsal sensore plate allows the foot to sense the ground promoting a lighter, more efficient stride.
  • Fabric lining supplies a soft step-in feel.
  • High-density rubber outsole.
  • Carbon rubber heel for extended durability in this high-wear area.
  • Imported.

I've always needed a lot of cushion, but highly cushioned running shoes always have a raised heel, which messes up my running. Newton has solved this problem for me. The Newton Energy is less fast than the Newton Gravity, but more stable. Great for training. Both the Gravity and the Energy are great. (I own them both, but have yet to really give the Gravity a fair go, as I'm still adjusting to the Energy.) You must adjust to these slowly, or you might strain your ankles, achilles tendon, etc. If you're new to Newton, you should try the Energy first, as it is less unconventional (though still unconventional enough) and therefore will require less of a physical adjustment. Also, I wear an custom orthotic. Newton shoes work great with my orthotic.

After running in the Gravity, Isaac, and Terra Momentus I was excited to try this shoe. I wear a 10.5 in the Gravity, and after reading reviews sized down to a 10 in this shoe. After a couple of runs, the response of the shoe is great, and is a nice training or long mileage shoe alternative to my Gravitys which I prefer for racing and tempo work.

There isn't very many reviews on this shoe. It's a very new shoe. Only a few months old at the time of this review. It's an incredible shoe. This is my first pair of Newton's. I tried many different shoes before buying the Newton Energy. I wanted something that didn't squeeze my toes and so they could splay correctly. There is plenty of breathable room in the toe box. There is , to me who walks exclusively in Merrell barefoots, quite a bit of cushioning throughout the entire shoe. It's not excessive and if you run in heavily padded shoes then you may not agree with me but I think it's a very good transition shoe between barefoot and other Newton shoes to some of the more cushioned shoes available for running. I know some people who take out the sole to give a little less cushion, especially in the heel. I've ran a lot in these shoes including many 5k's and recently just finished my first half marathon. My feet felt great after the run whereas in other running shoes my feet would ache quite a bit. There is almost zero wear after approximately ~100 miles. Absolutely fantastic shoes and budget friendly for those wanting a pair of Newtons.

I'd also recommend: Brooks, Newton

Good looking shoes, but run very small. They were not only too short, but way too narrow. In fact, I could bare get my foot into them. I find it hard to believe that men can fit into these shoes comfortably. Too bad, because the Energy NR could be a real winner. Will have to go back.

First off, very comfortable shoes; roomy in the toe-box and breathable. Good durability - approximately 100 miles on trail and pavement with little tread wear. There's raised tread on the forefoot which feels a little odd the first two or three runs, after that it's not noticeable. I'm using these for marathon training runs; up to 14 miles so far with no discomfort.

I'd also recommend: Saucony, Brooks
