My mom is 87 years old and has absolutely collapsed arches. Her Dr. said outside of surgery and maybe some new orthotics there wasn't much hope for any comfort for her. I ordered several pairs of trainers for her and had to send them all back except this one. In all the other shoes she looked like she was walking on the inside of her ankles, but not this one and this one is almost pain free and feel sure they will be once she has broken them in good. For anyone out there with severely over-pronated feet I would give this one a try. I want to thank the operator I talked with a couple nights ago who spent time helping me come up with these to try. He was so nice and I so appreciate it as there are just so many to go through. It is quite daunting when looking for a specific type shoe to help a specific problem. They seem to fit true to size. We ordered a 10.5 in Wide width and they are perfect and accommodate her orthotics after taking the removable ones out. Highly recommend this shoe! Have ordered a second pair for her, she likes them so much.

When I called to order a larger size than the size I had originally ordered, the service person apologized for sending the wrong size! I assured him that it was my error. He was friendly and helpful. The replacement shoes arrived the next day. Really good service, and the shoes are great.

I love these shoes! I just bought another pair. I must have bought 7 or 8 pairs over the past 7 years. The only negative factor (besides their looks, which take some getting used to) is that they wear out fairly quickly and get dirty quickly, too. I wish they came in a dark color. But obviously those are not deal breakers for me, because of the shoes' superb comfort and stability. I turned my left ankle in 2002 while hiking, breaking it in 3 places. I was wearing very expensive Mephisto oxfords at the time. It was at that point that my physical therapist told me I needed shoes that provided more stability and prevented pronation. I already knew to buy shoes with extra padding for walking on hard surfaces. My local store here in Austin, Karavel Shoes, recommended New Balance 587 to me and I've been wearing them ever since. Their "roll bar" really helps my weak ankles keep me vertical, and I've worn them on at least 6 continents on various walking trips; they definitely provide the padding one needs while spending hours in museums or walking on stone pavements. I know they are supposed to be "running shoes", but I use them only for walking. I'm 72.
Other Brands Recommended by Reviewer: Keen sandals and light hiking boots, and Mephisto boots for heavier duty multiday hikes.

Before I bought these shoes I read several reviews, as I have never owned a pair of New Balance before. I am sold. They are the most comfy tennis shoes I have ever owned. I have small, wide feet, and they fit like they were made for me. I ordered my true size, wide, and the fit is perfect. They are light, and my feet don't want me to take them off. I wear them daily to fast walk my dog down a gravel road, and they are the best. I would recommend them to anyone!

Very comfortable shoes! I was looking for shoes that would give me the support I need and look good so I could wear them while shopping, etc. These are perfect! They look cute with my shorts and give me great support as well.

This shoe was exactly what I didn't know I needed. I thought I was ordering a different shoe and when W587 arrived I was disappointed. Then I got online at Zappos.com and read the reviews about the shoe I thought I was ordering and the shoe I received, and I realized this shoe was probably better for my specific needs. This shoe has the roll bar for stability that is very important to me. I was recently diagnosed with MS and my balance has been affected slightly. This shoe helps me maintain better balance in my exercise classes I have been taking. I call it a "happy accident" that I ordered the wrong shoe.

I was very pleased with the service as well as the shoes. They were delivered immediately. I couldn't believe how fast. The shoes fit perfectly. It was the first time I ordered clothing on line and this proved to be a very positive experience. I will certainly order again in the future.

Perfect - The shoe is now the only shoe I want to wear. After injuring my foot and complicating the injury by wearing flip flops I have found this shoe is the only way to be able to get around without injuring it further. The initial purchase was for working out which I have yet to do since the injury.

Everything I asked for and got it. I have "lucky feet" so my grandson says. I have hammertoes and bunions. These W587s are roomy and comfortable and make my feet feel better. I need to ear orthodics in all my shoes and this 587 is just perfect for my feet. I am 67 years old and I play golf 3-4 times a week and I wear my 587s because they are so great.

Great shoes - A podiatrist strongly recommended the NB587. These shoes stabilize some of my foot movement. Your service is noteworthy.

Good value for pronation - This shoe is described as being for "excessive over-pronators" which is what I am. I don't run but I do walk at least 20 miles a week. In addition, I am a weightlifter so I'm heavy for my shoe size and am thus very hard on shoes. I like a lot of support, almost like a hiking shoe, and most sneakers have too much mesh for me and feel very floppy and loose on my feet. This shoe is very sturdy and feels great on my feet. The pair of sneakers I had before this were shot, and my body was paying the price in aches and pains. As soon as I put these on I felt better. The price is good for what you get. I can't speak to the durability of these shoes as I've only had them 3 weeks. In general I like their plain style, but the sole is a bit blocky looking since it is straight on either side to stabilize your feet. It's not that noticeable and I doubt others notice it. I have orthotics but find these shoes work better without them. I think because of their unusual design putting an orthotic on top of their arch support tilts my foot too much. They don't quite support my arch as snugly as I like, but I think a store bought arch support would fix this and my body tolerates walking in these shoes without my orthotics fine.

New Balance's W587 - Love this shoe, talk about comfort! It really is not the most attractive shoe; I thought it looked kind of clunky on. But, it is the most comfortable, supportive jogging shoe I've ever had. I love the roomy toe box, it's exactly what one needs for comfort walking, jogging, or running. Thank you Zappos for your excellent service!

I have worn this shoe for a long time, but recently had trouble finding it locally. It is the perfect shoe for my feet. Good stability for overpronaters, wide toe box, good looking. Please keep carrying this shoe!

My second pair - I still have and wear the first pair I bought, but after several years of wear they are not so dressy and no longer qualify for spiffier occasions. I keep meaning to wash them, and now that I have my new pair, will do so. I have a wide foot, and this is a great shoe.

The most comfortable walking shoe for my very wide, flat foot. Not the most stylish, but I'm willing to sacrifice style for comfort.

What's with that insole? This would be a very comfortable shoe if not for the fact that the insole/insert rubs against the inside of my foot and is causing discomfort. I wore these shoes outside before I realized there would be a problem so I am stuck with a $100 pair of shoes I can barely stand to wear!

This sneaker is great, absolutely adorable. About 2 weeks before I bought these, I went to a Stride Rite to have my 18 month old measured. He was a 7.5 wide so that’s why I ordered at Zappos. Unfortunately the straps were too short…but the next day, I had a 7.5 extra wide at my doorstep. Super easy exchange and they fit great. My recommendation, go 1 up on the width and you should be good. My son hasn't stopped running since I bought him these sneakers. (I don't how good that is, but at least I know he's comfy!)
