These are very similar to the Nike Free Trainers. I use the Nike Free TR for weightlifting, except for squats and snatches where I use squat shoes. In both the NB 871 and Free TR, they have low heel-to-toe drop, a relatively stable platform and lateral support. The difference between the two: * The 871s have a smaller toe box, softer midsole and heel, more supportive feel (closer to Free Sparq), and a more aggressive outsole (seems good for grass) * I will keep using the TRs for weightlifting, since I don't want running shoe softness, but will use the 871s for cross-training with running and jumping. * I like the 871's foot wrap support for active activities, such as Metro Dash events. Seems more of a running shoe than the TRs.
Brands I'd also recommend: Nike Free Trainer, Nike Free Sparq

I train 5 to 6 days a week in speed/endurance training for soccer and hockey. In the many years that I have been this active, these are among the best shoes I have worn for that purpose. They are quite supportive, low profile and light with great support. The toebox is a bit smaller then average but works perfectly for my foot type so I am very comfortable in the shoe. In the very first day I wore them I did speed ladder training, jump rope and a 1/2 Vipr series and experienced no fatigue in my feet at all.

I bought these shoes for Crossfit. I see all the other athletes in class with this type of "trainer shoe" like INOV 8 or Nike Trainer Shoe. I should of known before that they were going to be very tightly fitted to my feet. I did not use them to work out because I felt the ankle support was really low. But once again this is for the type of person who likes Innov 8 or Nike trainer type shoe. Let me just say though, the shoes are very ascthetically pleasing and makes you look very stylish at the Box.

I was unhappy with the feel on the bottom of my feet. It felt like something was bumped up on the sole of the shoes, and push up on the front of my heel and arch area. Very uncomfortable feel.

Very light, roomy toe box for cross training. Poor arch support and no medial stability. Very good outsole that will work on a variety of surfaces. I give this shoe a 3.5 out of 5.

These New Balance sneakers fit comfortably and I would purchase another pair. The price was also great. The look of these New Balance sneakers was sharp.

I will be returning this shoe - probably through no fault of New Balance, because it is not wide enough.

Runs on the small side so I had to order 1/2 size larger than Asics but same as Adidas. Comfortable right out of the box. Great all-purpose cross trainer. I even play golf in them.

I bought these specifically for the lateral support and because I have wide (2E) feet. I've done 3 of the "Insanity" workouts with these so far and the shoes felt great. I'm also doing this at home on Bamboo hardwood and there was no marking of any kind left on the floor. The length and width feel just right and the shoes are very lightweight. I would also consider using this for playing soccer on turf but have not yet tried that. Assuming these last through 60 days of Insanity workouts I would probably buy them again for P90 or Cross-fit workouts.

I am a podiatrist and bought these shoes for the lateral stability required for P90X. I had to return them because they run a half size small. I'm typically a 9.5 but have to go to a 10. Ideally you should have a thumb width of room from the tip of your longest toe to the end of the shoe and be able to freely wiggle your toes. I also think the ankle support is mediocre since the heel counter is cut very low, thus not ideally supporting the lateral collateral nor deltoid ankle ligaments. This is a light and versatile shoe with all the bulk trimmed away. It is not a highly cushioned shoe like a runner but for fast footwork requirements I think it passes. Oh, and it looks sharp!

I am a die hard New Balance fan and theirs are the only sneakers I buy. That said, these may be the best sneakers that I have ever owned. They are very light and responsive with support not usually found in such light sneakers. I love them!

Shoes are very light and comfortable. They have great traction, I use them for racquetball and they are great. They run a little small I had to return and get a half size larger but I'm glad I got them.

Just okay. I've used this shoe for cross training. It's my least favorite shoe. Not much arch support, feels sloppy like there's too much room in the shoe. Won't buy again.
