My husband loves these shoes, to my surprise. He has bought a second pair in case they are discontinued. He has very wide feet and usually also needs an extra deep toebox. These shoes do not provide that because they have a standard last. Yet he finds them very comfortable for walking five miles a day, and gets no blisters. In New Balance athletic shoes he always needs one size longer than in other brands. In all New Balance shoes he wears 10 4E. So these shoes feel true to size for New Balance shoes. We hope that they are not discontinued.

New Balance's best effort in the 960 something series of the "Country Walker" was around 2004 or 2005 with the 964. Since then each new succeeding model (965 through 968) has gotten cheaper looking, worse fitting and progressively uglier. I actually bought the 964 model 3 times in a two year period. It wore out fairly quickly but was comfortable and snug enough for my narrow foot. It wasn't a "great shoe" but it was one of the very few "outdoor" style shoes available in a "B" width that I could get a decent fit with and was reasonably good looking and didn't aggravate my plantar fasciitis. Come on New Balance, bring that shoe back and gain a customer back. I won't hold my breath though. New Balance hasn't impressed me at all in recent years. Zappos remains no. 1 in customer service, when they actually have my size in the desired shoe.

I'd also recommend: No other brands come in 4E width

My husband has had this shoe over and over again, too - this time it was a half-size too large-feeling, so we have to return them. Fortunately, there is an 11 1/2, so we'll be ordering those. He usually wears a 12. This is odd because he just had the opposite problem with the NB MW956 - in a 12 they were a 1/2 size too small-feeling.

Great walking shoe. I walk two to three miles per day and they are very comfortable and provide excellent support. It is hard to find xx wide shoes locally and I am very satisfied with these.

I agree with Keith B. New Balance continues to produce a lesser quality shoe with each new model in the series. The 964 was the best shoe of this series and the shoes up through the 968 have gotten worse. I know New Balance doesn't care, but I wish I had bought 10 pair of the 964 in 2005.
