I bought these shoes from a specialty shoe store that caters to the outdoor activities type of person who appreciate comfort and require good support in a shoe. I will be buying these shoes again, and when I do, I will buy them here at Zappos. The reason I bought them elsewhere in the first place is because it is important to get fitted properly by a professional. These professionals that set me up with the MW956 new their stuff, and I left the store with the right shoe for my feet, the first time. My girl friend has been dealing with some foot issues for a few years and had been encouraging me to switch to higher quality shoes, for as long as I can recall. These shoes get 5 stars, true to width, and true to size ratings because I was professionally fitted for them. The arch support is excellent. I have a compressed vertebra in my spine, and have endured back discomfort for years. These shoes are like walking on a cloud. There is great traction in mud, ice, and snow. I wore these this winter while shoveling snow and assisting people with getting their cars unstuck, and my feet were the driest part of my body. I highly recommend these shoes. They are not too bad to look at either.

No where near 4E width. Ever since New Balance started making all their stuff overseas their wide sizes got narrow. I guess I'll stop wasting my time trying to find shoes in this brand that will fit.

Nicely constructed, however they do not appear to be true to size. I normally wear a 13E. Bought and returned those. Went to 14E, still tight. Disappointed.

The previous MW955 have been my all time favorite casual walking/everyday shoe. very durable, fantastic fit, great foot support, highly stable platform. Sadly, the replacement MW956 in my size (12D) was way way too narrow, it felt like a 12B on my foot. I'll be trying the 12EE when they are available.

Shoes arrived next day in perfect condition. Shoes fit perfect to size ordered. Excellent support shoe for people with spinal disk or knee disorders. I walk on concrete sidewalks and this shoe was very confortable and my back pain is quite improved.
I'd also recommend: I only use New Balance.

These shoes run half a size smaller. I normally am a size 11, but got an 11½ and that is the same length as an 11 in this model. They also seems to be a bit wider, as I required a D instead of my usual 2E, I tried them on in a store before ordering from Zappos. The fit is reasonably good, but, for me, not as comfortable as my 993s for long walks on paved surfaces. They provide very good traction and stability for off-road/trail walks which is how I will use them. The waterproof membrane works like a charm, keeps the feet dry and warm.
