This shoe is great! I had surgery on my foot long ago & always have trouble finding a comfortable shoe, not anymore. I had no need to break in the shoe to feel comfortable or taking them off after a short period of time because of pain. Wide width and fat people with flat feet friendly. I have finally found the best shoe for me!

Most comfortable walking shoe I've ever owned. These are well worth the money for runners/walkers with flat feet! Runs about 1/2 size smaller than other New Balance shoes.

My podiatrist recommended running shoes into which I would place aftermarket inserts. After "scoping out" several pairs on the New Balance website (I have a wide foot and high arch), I went to Zappos to see what might be available in the styles I selected. The NB MR817 was available at a great price, so I purchased it. They arrived ahead of schedule thanks to Zappos shipping upgrade, and when I put them on, they fit beautifully. Thanks for your promptness.

Baltimore Oriole Shoes - I really wanted 13 EEE but you did not have them. I'm perfectly happy with these. They are comfortable and allow room for the orthotics I put in.

Great solid shoe for flat, overpronated feet - This shoe is so good that my husband wore one pair running for a solid year and I bought him a second pair to replace them! They are heavy - but have perfect support for this foot issue.

Additional Brand Information

New Balance began as a Boston-based arch support company in the early 1900s, developed into a specialized manufacturer of shoes in the 1970s, and has grown to become a leading global athletic products company. Today New Balance is a family of brands including New Balance, Dunham, PF Flyers, Aravon, Warrior and Brine.

Since the days of selling arch supports to police officers and waiters, New Balance has been a brand concerned with meeting the needs of the everyday athlete. In pursuing this goal, they developed an "Endorsed By No One" philosophy, which holds that a superior product will sell itself better than any superstar athlete ever could. Part of producing New Balance shoes and athletic clothing is manufacturing it to fit all widths and sizes, because a better fit produces better performance.

To ensure the best fitting, best performing shoes and clothes, New Balance focuses on improving their technology and production methods. A big part of that is maintaining five manufacturing facilities here in the United States where they continue to produce New Balance shoes and apparel that meet the standards they've employed for 100 years. They have also remained committed to a core set of values that include integrity, teamwork and total customer satisfaction.

Flat Foot who has to run! If you are like me and have flat feet and a little overweight, then this shoe is for you. Today I did a 12 minute mile with them and my feet feel fine.

Recommended by Podiatrist - I have had two pair of the MR817 after visiting my podiatrist to deal with plantar fasciitis and following his recommended list of shoes. The width and length is correct even with my custom orthotics added for additional support. The color leaves much to be desired but I am pleased otherwise. I do not run in these since I have been persuaded to trade cycling for running but I do use them for fitness walking and they are very comfortable. This is a relatively soft shoe so they only seem to last me about 6 months. If these were available in blue or gray, I'd give them 5 stars.

I purchased for my husband. He is a big fan of New Balance! The sneakers are everything he hoped for. They are 4E width and this is difficult to find in other brands.

Awesome support, dorky look - I'm 6'1 and +400lbs, and these shoes have given me back walking. The arch support is fantastic and the cushioning is great. No side-side swaying, nice heel-and-toe rocking. Some of the negative reviews had almost scared me away from these, but I tried them anyway and am soo glad I did! My only negative: The dork factor in these shoes is pretty high (white and ORANGE?! What am I, a creamsicle?) but the support, the comfort is unbeatable and worth looking ten times worse. I'd wear these shoes if they looked like cow flop.

OK not great. Comfortable from the beginning, no break-in time needed. Would like more support inside. Can't really tighten enough to keep the heel from slipping.

Better shoe for wider width - This shoe is an SL-2 Last so it is wider in the toe box, not good for those with narrow feet. However if you have large wide feet like I do they fit perfectly.

Great shoe. For over-pronators who have discomfort when running, walking, or just standing, this shoe is great. When wearing regular shoes, I am always conscious of the discomfort of my feet and legs. With these shoes I just forget about it because there is none. This is a very comfortable, stable, and controlling shoe.

Not satisfied - The shoe comes up short on toe space. What I thought would be a comfort for my arches turned out to be a disappointment. I would not recommend these shoes.

Ok for mild use but no good for long days - I only use New Balance. I purchased this shoe to replace my 1221. My feet will get sore if I am on my feet for more then an hour or two. Forget about standing on hard surfaces for a long time. I am planning to replace them with the MR1223.

Not very well sized. I have a long narrow foot, and have had good experience with New Balance being sized correctly for my odd size. This time it didn't work, and the shoe is not comfortable.

Stability Yes, Cushioning Not So Much - While the product description promised both stability and cushioning, it's the former at the expense of the latter. This is not to say that there is no cushioning, just not as much as I'd hoped. This is probably a better shoe for the heavier (weight) casual runner (3 miles, 3 x a week) vs. the runner that's more active and in shape.
