This is one of the few shoes that will actually fit an older-than-preschool child who has an extra wide foot. Most XXW models disappear as the Youth sizes get larger. You can find plenty of options for a fat-footed 3 year old. When you're 9, not so much. My son says these were 100% comfortable upon first wearing, with no breaking in. They don't have stand-out style or features, but we'll accept that because they fit so well.
Brands I'd also recommend: none, for XXW feet. It's slim pickins'

We have been so pleased with these shoes. They are especially great for narrow-footed children. Quick to put on and he can make them as loose or tight as he wants. Found them to be exactly the right size.

New Balance is the only shoe I will purchase and only purchase from Zappos. These shoes are for my 49 year old son with down syndrome. He is so happy and comfortable in these shoes it is hard to get him to not wear them every day and alternate them with his other New Balance shoes. This particular pair has really become his favorite. Go New Balance & Zappos!

I love these shoes! The only negative is my son doesn't have wide feet but I had to order these in a wide width so the strap would reach the Velcro closure. Also, he can put them on himself (he's 4) but he can't do the strap himself.

My 6 year old likes these shoes, although he's not terribly picky. I like that he can get them on and off himself without the velcro closure looking geriatric. We always order New Balance shoes for all four kids because they come in wide and have always been satisfied. These are no exception.

A great sneaker for my 5 year old son. He loves them! They are easy to get on and off, and they have held up very well with lots of running, biking, scooting, etc. I would definitely buy them again.

My grandson with Downs Syndrome has a foot that is extra wide and it has been a project trying to find a shoe that would be comfortable and fit properly. This shoe did the trick. He loves them!

Great kids shoe! My son, who is 4 years old, loves this shoe! He can slip it on himself and they are super comfortable, which is hard for us to find because he has a very wide foot! Zappos has great shipping too; shoes arrived in one day!

Got these for my son for Christmas. NB shoes seem to generally fit well and are well-made, and these were no exception. My son's feet are on the wide-side, so the wide fit worked great. Son loves the style (and especially being able to get his shoes on quickly since he doesn't have to tie laces...and aren't as juvenile as other velcro shoes for kids).

I ordered these in Red back in November and they were so comfy my 5 year old son refused to wear anything else. I just received the same exact pair and size in yellow and not only are they tight but the strap is so short it barely closes! I believe this is a defective pair. How unfortunate because this is the third item I have had a problem with in just 2 months. I will exchange these for the sake of comfort but if I have an issue again I will have to spend my money elsewhere.

These are one of the very, very few shoes that fit my 8 y.o. son comfortably. There just aren't many XW shoes for kids older than a preschooler.

With as much as I hate to say it, the reviews I read were right. They were good shoes until all the stitching started coming undone at the toe. I have always had good luck with NB but these just didn't last. Less than 4 months. Disappointed.
