First, be aware that even though these are listed as "wide calf", the actual circumference width will change depending on your shoe size. A size 6, for example, might have a 16 inch circumference, and a size 9 could be over 17. Also keep in mind that the circumference measurement is for the part at the very top, widest part of the boot. For reference: I am an 8.5 or 9, depending on the shoe, and I almost always wear a regular width, but my feet do tend towards the wide side. Based on other reviews, I ordered these boots in a 9 W, and found them a nice fit size wise (order up if you are in between) but I'd say the width was a bit too wide for me in a W (if you like thick socks with boots this would be ideal for you). If you like tights or thin socks with boots, you'd do better with a medium width if you are in between. Most importantly: I have a 17" calf and these fit me perfectly in the size nine. Zip up like a charm and are very comfortable even with jeans. The boot is well made and sturdy, the leather is nice in both color and texture (I ordered brown). As with most Naturalizer shoes, the boot is comfortable and well made. That said, as with so many wide calf boots, the fit is just very off in the ankle. I am looking for a riding boot - and that means no slouch. A good riding boot should have a nice clean line from ankle to calf, and shouldn't slouch or wrinkle. These do. And, as I mentioned, it seems to be a problem with many wide calf boots. Wide calves do not necessarily mean wide ankles, so there really is no need for all of this slouchy leather around the ankle. So, if you are looking for something a bit more casual, with a soft ankle, these could be for you. If you are look for a true riding boot without any slouch, you might try the Nine West Shizaw Wide Calf (still with a soft ankle, but much better and fit my 17" calves in an 8.5 medium width) or, for a more traditional riding boot with a stiff ankle, try the Franco Sarto Clint Wide Calf (these fit my 17" calf and foot in a 9.5 medium width and they run quite small).

These are great boots. I love the leather it is nice and soft and very natural looking, not too stiff. I was worried that it would look a bit state trooper-ish, but it does not at all. I have 17" calfs and these fit perfectly, I can even shove jeans into them just fine, the elastic at the top is not very noticeable but gives that necessary room so that you do not get a muffin top. The arch support is great and the inside of the shoe is super comfortable. The ankle also is not that big, I have 9½" inch ankles and these were perfect for them, no bagging of the leather in that area. The only problem is that they were half a size too big. Even with large boot socks they were too long on my feet so I am returning them and getting the smaller size. I hope they work out because I love them so much!

Dear Tony, Will you marry me? I'm sure my husband wouldn't mind because you are the one who keeps me in shoes anyway...and we do spend so much time together! Yet another superb Zappos transaction. In under 24 hours I have my new boots and they are wonderful. Perhaps a little snug at the top on my 'athletic' 18" calves, but after years of searching and after trying on many different styles this year I do believe we have a winner. Perhaps a little narrow in the footbed if you're planning on wearing socks - for me these are tights only.

Nice boots, nice overall style. Won't even come close to fitting 17" calf.

I have 16" muscular calves and a wide foot with small bunions - very difficult to find shoes and boots to fit. I have to pay premium price for boots, but I will wear them for years, so the price did not deter me. I ordered wide shaft - it has great roominess, even a little roomy. The foot bed is narrower than I wanted for a "W". I will have to have them stretched over the bunion area. But it's worth the little stretching cost because the boots are very expensive looking, the leather is sturdy and riding boot worthy. Not slick and shiny. I love the buckle embellishments, again; not cheap or manly but refined looking. These will look great with denim skirts and pencil pants. These boots are worth the money, and after a little stretching, I hope to be able to slip in my orthotics.
I'd also recommend: Nayot, Ecco
